[OVERVIEW]
  • Yveltal is one of the most versatile Pokemon in Anything Goes thanks to its incredible stat spread, excellent typing, diverse movepool, and amazing ability.
  • Offensively, Yveltal boasts incredible attacking stats paired with a great Dark / Flying typing that give it the ability to muscle its way through strong defensive Pokemon such as Giratina and Primal Groudon, while carrying little counter-play beyond Fairy-types.
  • On the defensive side, thanks to a huge HP stat and respectable defenses, Yveltal is capable of checking powerful threats in E-Killer Arceus and Zygarde-C.
  • Thanks to Dark Aura boosting the strength of Dark-type attacks and Oblivion Wing creating a source of recovery, Yveltal is able to maintain a powerful offensive presence throughout matches.
  • Yveltal's typing makes its sets extremely splashable on teams as well; Choice Scarf being able to check a variety of offensive threats such as Marshadow, Mega Gengar, and Psychic spam and Life Orb or Choice Specs being able to check common defensive options like Giratina, Lugia, and Primal Groudon.
  • Yveltal's base 99 Speed stat allows it to outpace a multitude of Pokemon in Anything Goes, such as Lunala, Primal Groudon, and Zygarde-C.
  • However, Yveltal's Speed stat is also a curse as its behind extremely dangerous offensive threats such as offensive variants of Arceus and Mega Rayquaza.
  • Unfortunately, Yveltal has a bothersome combination of weaknesses defensively to Stealth Rock, Fairy-types like Xerneas, and very common coverage options including on Pokemon Yveltal is meant to check such as Primal Groudon.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Dark Pulse is Yveltal's most reliable and spammable STAB move . Thanks to its boosted damage from Dark Aura, it's able to effectively 2HKO most Pokemon that don't resist it.
  • Oblivion Wing is Yveltal's secondary STAB option that allows Yveltal to regain 75% of its damage dealt in HP, providing Yveltal a great source of recovery.
  • Sucker Punch is a powerful priority that allows Yveltal to revenge kill faster threats.
  • If priority isn't as necessary of an option, Foul Play can work as a good replacement for managing setup sweepers and bulkier Pokemon such as E-Killer Arceus.
  • Taunt allows Yveltal to act as a stallbreaker, preventing the spread of status and hazards as well as the recovery of opposing walls such as with Chansey, Ferrothorn, and defensive Arceus respectively.
  • Heat Wave can be used to hit common defensive Steel-types such as Magearna and Klefki, as well as OHKOing Ferrothorn.
  • U-Turn can be used to gain momentum and pivot out Yveltal on one of its checks.
Set Details
========
  • 8 Def ensures that Yveltal is never OHKOed by a +2 Jolly Life Orb Normal-type Arceus Extreme Speed, while avoiding the 2HKO from Defensive Ho-oh's Brave Bird most of the time.
  • 248 Special Attack with a Rash nature maximizes Yveltal's offensive prowess without lowering either of its attacks' strength.
  • 252 Speed allows Yveltal to outpace most support Arceus forms, Solgaleo, and Lunala as well as a plethora of other common Pokemon in Anything Goes.
  • If a higher Speed tier is desired, a Naive nature can be used over a Rash nature at the cost of extra offensive power.
  • Dark Aura boosts Yveltal's Dark-type attacks.
  • Life Orb is the item of choice for this set as it provides a 1.3x boost to Yveltal's attacks in order to put out as much damage as possible without being restricted to a single move.
  • Black Glasses can be used in lieu of Life Orb in order to avoid recoil damage, however the damage boost provided is only 1.2x and only affects Yveltal's Dark-type attacks.
Usage Tips
=======
  • Bring in Yveltal often to break through opposing teams, as its checks outside of Fairy-types are very limited.
  • Take advantage of the spammability of Dark Pulse early-game in order to quickly break down the opposing team's Pokemon.
  • Be sure to utilize Oblivion Wing in order to recover HP when necessary and to also avoid losing out on crucial damage against possible Fairy-type switch-ins, such as Arceus-Fairy.
  • As Life Orb Yveltal can also act as a stallbreaker, make sure to Taunt Pokemon carrying status moves and entry hazards in order to keep your Pokemon safe.
  • Sucker Punch can be utilized to check common threats that are much faster than Yveltal, such as Arceus-Ghost, Deoxys-A, and Mega Rayquaza, however, be sure to avoid becoming either setup bait or getting hit with Extreme Speed.
  • When matched up with a pesky Baton Pass team, don't be afraid of utilizing Yveltal to shutdown the opposing team with a combination of Dark Pulse, Oblivion Wing, and Taunt.
  • If the opposing team has access to setup sweepers, especially those that Yveltal can naturally check such as Arceus-Ghost, try to keep Yveltal as healthy as possible in order for Yveltal to still safely check these Pokemon.
  • Avoid letting Yveltal get statused at all costs. Burn and poison can both quickly wear down Yvetal and can cause some serious problems when paired with Life Orb recoil. Paralysis can ruin Yveltal's wallbreaking potential by halving its Speed and allowing it to be outpaced by a majority of the metagame.
  • If the opposing team has a Fairy-ceus, try to double out on the incoming switch-in or U-turn if applicable, this way momentum doesn't shift in favor of the opponent.
Team Options
========
  • Life Orb Yveltal can be picked up as a solid stallbreaker for offensive teams thanks to its ability to hit extremely hard and keep momentum, as well as hazard control, through Taunt.
  • Mega Gengar is Life Orb Yveltal's strongest offensive partner, applying immense pressure on opposing teams with an insane Special Attack stat and amazing ability in Shadow Tag. In addition, Mega Gengar can eliminate opposing Fairy-types and check Arceus-Ghost with previous chip.
  • Mega Rayquaza works in tandem with Yveltal to break down similar checks and benefits greatly from Yveltal's natural wallbreaking prowess. Yveltal can also break down opposing team's enough for Mega Rayquaza to come in and make a successful sweep.
  • Primal Groudon is an incredible teammate for Yveltal, being able to fill a variety of roles from being a defensive check to Fairy-types and setting Stealth Rock, to becoming a powerful setup sweeper through Swords Dance and even Rock Polish. Yveltal in turn can provide a switch-in to Ground-type threats such as Zygarde-C and common Defoggers like defensive Arceus.
  • Setup sweepers such as E-Killer Arceus and Xerneas thrive off of Yveltal's stallbreaking capabilities to pressure defensive cores and maintain momentum as well as its ability to break down respective setup checks that could prevent a sweep.
  • Suicide leads like Deoxys-S and Excadrill can enable Yveltal the ability of punishing common Defoggers and lets it have some clutch 2HKOes with hazard support, namely on Specially Defensive Primal Groudon.
  • Pokemon with entry hazard removal, whether it's a Defogger like Arceus and Giratina or a Rapid Spinner such as Excadrill, are highly appreciated as they help to keep Yveltal healthy and at as high of an HP stat as possible.
[SET]
name: Choice Scarf
move 1: Dark Pulse
move 2: Oblivion Wing
move 3: Foul Play
move 4: U-turn
item: Choice Scarf
ability: Dark Aura
nature: Modest / Timid
evs: 8 Def / 248 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Dark Pulse is Yveltal's go-to STAB move thanks to boosted power from Dark Aura and wide range of neutral coverage.
  • Yveltal's secondary STAB option, Oblivion Wing, provides solid coverage for OHKOing major threats in Anything Goes, namely Marshadow, and a nice source of sustain.
  • Foul Play acts as an excellent check to physical setup sweepers as well as generally powerul physical attackers, such as E-Killer Arceus and Mega Rayquaza.
  • U-Turn offers an opportunity for gaining momentum thanks to Choice Scarf Yveltal's fast pivoting capabilities.
Set Details
========
  • 8 Def EVs are utilized to act as a buffer for dangerous offensive threats, namely Normal-type E-Killer Arceus's Extreme Speed. This minimal investment also helps in removing other chances of being 2HKOed by Pokemon such as Ho-Oh.
  • 248 Special Attack and a Modest nature makes Yveltal's Special Attack as high as possible.
  • 252 Speed in unison with Choice Scarf allows Yveltal outpace a plethora of Pokemon, including threats such as Mega Gengar, +1 Zygarde-C, and offensive Arceus.
  • A Timid nature can be utilized for a greater Speed tier in lieu of extra power, allowing Yveltal to outpace threats like Choice Scarf Lunala and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele.
  • Yveltal's ability Dark Aura boosts the strength of all Dark-type attacks.
Usage Tips
=======
  • Make full use of Yveltal's revenge-killing capabilities, as its main role is to check some of the most dangerous offensive threats within the Anything Goes metagame, namely Marshadow and Deoxys-A.
  • To maximize Yveltal's role as a late-game cleaner, chip down the opposing team's Pokemon substantially throughout a match in order to make a sweep much easier.
  • Yveltal still holds a notable offensive presence thanks to Dark Aura boosted Dark Pulse so don't be afraid to use it outside of its previously mentioned roles.
  • Be careful in selecting moves for Yveltal to use, as getting Choice locked can present a problem in the face of extremely dangerous setup sweepers that may resist Yveltal's attacks such as Xerneas.
  • Keeping Stealth Rock off the field is key to maintaining Yveltal's longevity within the match.
  • Although Yveltal carries a high boosted Speed tier, be wary of threats that can ignore this difference by utilizing priority, such as Life Orb Mega Rayquaza and E-Killer Arceus.
  • Avoid confronting bulky Pokemon that commonly carry Thunder Wave, like defensive Ho-oh and Primal Groudon, as getting paralyzed completely shuts down Choice Scarf Yveltal's role as a speedy revenge-killer.
Team Options
========
  • Choice Scarf Yveltal works extremely well in filling the role of speed control, especially for teams that have inherent issues with fast, powerful breakers such as Mega Rayquaza.
  • Mega Gengar is an excellent partner for Choice Scarf Yveltal, as it can help set up easy revenge kills for the latter Pokemon. In turn, Yveltal greatly appreciates the check to Fairy-types that Mega Gengar provides as well as the ability to trap and KO defensive Pokemon, such as Chansey, thanks to Shadow Tag. Yveltal's U-turn can also bring in Mega Gengar against common Yveltal switch-ins, making the combo even more lethal.
  • Mega Rayquaza can help in breaking down opposing teams through its sheer, raw power in order to give Yveltal the best possible opportunities to get quick revenge kills, also helping Yveltal to sweep late-game. Mega Rayquaza appreciates the high Speed tier that Choice Scarf Yveltal has, being able to outpace fast threats such as Mewtwo.
  • It's no surprise that Primal Groudon performs exceptionally well when paired with any Yveltal set, having amazing supportive capabilities with Stealth Rock, Status, and phasing while being an awesome switch-in to Fairy-types that could threaten Yveltal. It's natural wallbreaking power also helps Yveltal clean up opposing teams late-game.
  • Checks to Fairy-type Pokemon such as Arceus-Poison, Ho-oh, and Magearna can provide some pretty solid switch-in support while also putting pressure on opposing teams offensively.
  • Pokemon that can remove entry hazards such as defensive Arceus forms and Giratina can be a godsend in keeping Yveltal and its teammates healthy while also being great switch-ins to powerful offensive threats on the opposing team.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • A physically defensive tank set can be used on Yveltal to check certain physical threats, namely E-Killer Arceus or Ho-oh, however it happens to struggle in managing a variety of dangerous Pokemon ranging from Mega Rayquaza to Marshadow and it can generally be replaced with a bulkier, non-Stealth Rock weak Pokemon, such as Arceus, that can fill the role better.
  • Choice Band and Choice Specs can be utilized in lieu of Life Orb to turn Yveltal into a sole, more powerful wallbreaker, however this presents the problem of getting hard punished for being Choice locked by Pokemon like Xerneas and removes the stallbreaking capabilities Yveltal carried with Taunt.
  • Knock Off can be used to remove items, namely things like Life Orb on Ho-oh and and Eviolite on Chansey, and deal significant physical damage to Specially Defensive Walls, however Chansey is not that common and other options are generally better.
  • Darkinium and Flyinium Z can be used over Life Orb in order to provide Yveltal with a one-time, extremely powerful breaking attack, however without reliable setup options this leaves Yveltal coming up short in damage for the remainder of the match, missing out on important 2HKOes on various Pokemon such as defensive Primal Groudon.
Checks and Counters
===================
  • Fairy-types: Arceus-Fairy, Magearna, and Xerneas can all pose to be incredibly difficult Pokemon to manage, as the first two can take on Yveltal defensively quite easily and Xerneas can scare Yveltal out by risking an OHKO with Moonblast and by threatening Geomancy, as well as Z-Geomancy which goes through Taunt.
  • Rock-types: Arceus-Rock and Tyranitar can prove to be troublesome for Yveltal as they threaten to KO it with relative ease and take minimal damage in return.
  • Ho-Oh: Ho-Oh's naturally massive Special Defense leaves Yveltal stuck in the mud as it can't do much damage to Ho-Oh without entry hazard support and does not want to stay in against any of the the latter's move options.
  • Arceus-Dark: Arceus-Dark is a solid check to Yveltal, only being truly threatened by Taunt and Oblivion Wing spam. If Taunt isn't being run however, Arceus-Dark, especially the Calm Mind variant, can generally win every engagement due to a combination of sheer bulk and PP stall.
  • Special Walls: Choice Scarf and defensive Yveltal are hard-walled by Pokemon like Blissey, Chansey, and Clefable, which can threaten status and decent chip damage without being very threatened in return.

  • Yveltal is one of the most versatile Pokemon in Anything Goes thanks to its incredible stat spread, excellent typing, diverse movepool, and amazing ability.
  • Offensively, Yveltal boasts incredible 131 base attacking stats that give it the ability to muscle its way through strong defensive Pokemon such as Giratina and Primal Groudon, as well as blow past less bulky Pokemon. you don't need to say the exact stats, as a general rule u don't rly wanna include info people would know by putting it into the teambuilder
  • On the Defensive side, carrying a huge 126 HP stat with 95 and 98 defenses respectfully, Yveltal is capable of checking powerful threats in E-Killer Arceus and Zygarde-C.
  • Yveltal's Dark- and Flying-type STAB moves make it an extremely difficult Pokemon to effectively check defensively.
  • Thanks to Dark Aura boosting the strength of Dark-type attacks and Oblivion Wing creating a source of sustain recovery?, Yveltal is able to maintain a powerful offensive presence throughout matches.
  • Defensively, Yveltal has access to reliable recovery in Roost and awesome utility options in Foul Play, Taunt, Toxic, and various other options that allow it to apply immense pressure on opposing teams.
  • Yveltal's typing makes its sets extremely splashable on teams as well; Choice Scarf being able to check a variety of offensive threats such as Marshadow, Mega Gengar, and Psychic spam and Life Orb or Choice Specs being able to check common defensive options like Giratina, Lugia, and Primal Groudon.

all of ur info is good, it's just that this is really long because you've opted to stuff a ton of info in here you don't really need. i would just try to condense this down to the actually important stuff, otherwise this is gonna be a ridiculously long overview

  • U-Turn can be used to gain momentum and pivot out Yveltal on one of its checks.

======== info is all good but again with the giving exact numbers like 1.33x boost, it's unnecessary and keeps adding length
  • 8 Def ensures that Yveltal is never OHKOed by a +2 Jolly Life Orb Normal-type Arceus Extreme Speed, while avoiding the 2HKO from Defensive Ho-oh's Brave Bird most of the time.

something about doubling/u-turning out on fairyceus

Set Details
========
  • 8 Def makes sure that Yveltal can never be OHKOed by a +2 Jolly Life Orb Normal-type Arceus Extreme Speed. This investment also avoids the 2HKO from Defensive Ho-oh's Brave Bird most times. never ever copy the exact same bullet points from one set to another set. mix up the language at minimum. this is completely non-negotiable, and if i missed any other instances then you need to go back and change those
  • 248 Special Attack and a Modest nature makes Yveltal's Special Attack as high as possible.
  • 252 Speed in unison with Choice Scarf allows Yveltal outpace most of the unboosted Anything Goes metagame, including major threats such as Deoxys-A, Marshadow, and offensive Arceus.
  • A Timid nature can be utilized for a greater Speed tier in lieu of extra power. if ur gonna mention timid, u better say what that lets u outspeed in return for that power drop.
  • Yveltal's ability Dark Aura boosts all Dark-type attacks by 1.33x and is able to remove Fairy Aura on switch-in. kinda the same bullet, plus removing fairy aura still isn't worth mentioning at all
Usage Tips
=======
  • Make full use of Yveltal's revenge-killing capabilities, as its main role is to check some of the most dangerous offensive threats within the Anything Goes metagame, namely Marshadow and Deoxys-S. deo-s isn't really a dangerous offensive threat at all. also i think modest is still slower? not sure. anyway, diff example needed
  • Chip down the opposing team's Pokemon in order to put them in range for Yveltal to come in and KO certain threats or clean the remaining Pokemon. to make this UT more about yveltal, you could say that its role is more of that of a cleaner

Nothing personal, I protect my people
Implemented most of the check, shortened the Overview a tad, and changed many examples. Here are the two points that I didn't implement.
  • Yveltal's base 99 Speed stat allows it to outpace a multitude of Pokemon in Anything Goes, such as Lunala, Primal Groudon, and Zygarde-C. same thing with the stats here
I corrected all mentions of stats besides this one, namely because using a Speed stat to note a significant group of Pokemon that Yveltal outpaces as examples is extremely important for people trying to use the Pokemon and is generally acceptable.
  • Pokemon that can remove entry hazards such as defensive Arceus forms and Giratina can be a godsend in keeping Yveltal and its teammates healthy while also being great switch-ins to powerful offensive threats on the opposing team.
you mentioned keeping off hazards in UT but neglected to mention removers here

  • Yveltal's base 99 Speed stat allows it to outpace a multitude of Pokemon in Anything Goes, such as Lunala, Primal Groudon, and Zygarde-C. Slow Support Arceus Formes, possibly add Ho-oh and Lugia
  • However, Yveltal's Speed stat is also a curse as its behind extremely dangerous offensive threats such as offensive variants of Arceus and Mega Rayquaza. Marshadow's also new
  • Unfortunately, Yveltal has a bothersome combination of weaknesses defensively to Stealth Rock, Fairy-types like Xerneas, and very common coverage options including on Pokemon Yveltal is meant to check such as Primal Groudon.

Moves
========
Marsh, Mewtwo, Lunala
  • If priority isn't as necessary of an option, Foul Play can work as a good replacement for managing setup sweepers and bulkier Pokemon such as E-Killer Arceus. Just SD Arceus is fine, it checks all of them
  • Taunt allows Yveltal to act as a stallbreaker, preventing the spread of status and hazards as well as the recovery of opposing walls such as with Chansey, Ferrothorn, and defensive Arceus respectively. Celesteela, Blissey over Chansey, mention preventing defog or geomancy (support moves in general)
  • Heat Wave can be used to hit common defensive Steel-types such as Magearna and Klefki, as well as OHKOing Ferrothorn. with magearna being much more anti-meta and taunt beating ferro, heat wave isn't as viable anymore
  • U-Turn can be used to gain momentum and pivot out Yveltal on one of its checks. Not really used on LO, mention Knock off instead
Set Details
========
Usage Tips
=======
  • As Life Orb Yveltal can also act as a stallbreaker, make sure to Taunt Pokemon carrying status moves and entry hazards in order to keep your Pokemon safe. prevent defog + heal bell and stuff
  • Sucker Punch can be utilized to check common threats that are much faster than Yveltal, such as Arceus-Ghost, Deoxys-A, and Mega Rayquaza, however, be sure to avoid becoming either setup bait or getting hit with Extreme Speed. Lunala, Marshadow, M-ray, deo-a is a better list (in reverse order)
Burn and poison isn't actually that bad, yveltal usually just does its job and either dies or becomes weaker afterwards anyways (yveltal usually ends up being the status absorber sometimes due to owing recovery), probably just mention not to get yveltal statused when needed at near full health
  • If the opposing team has a Fairy-ceus, try to double out on the incoming switch-in or U-turn if applicable, this way momentum doesn't shift in favor of the opponent. Weaken it with teammates so yveltal won't get wlaled
Team Options
========

Moves
========
Set Details
========
  • A Timid nature can be utilized for a greater Speed tier in lieu of extra power, allowing Yveltal to outpace threats like Choice Scarf Lunala and Choice Scarf Tapu Lele
  • Yveltal's ability Dark Aura boosts the strength of all Dark-type attacks.
Usage Tips
=======
  • Pivoting role, scouting
Team Options
========
I noticed that team options looked similar for both, so I'll just put some ideas here:
Comprehensive list of options:
Gengar-mega - really nicely covered
M-ray - Note that M-ray and Yveltal share some common checks, notably fairyceus and rockceus, which both of them pressure and help break, also M-ray gets annoyed by celesteela and lugia which yveltal muscles past
Pdon, Cesteela, Ho-oh, Ferro, Arceus-Poison - switch in on fairy types, (steel types switching in on rockeus), also some of them set rocks
kyogre primal beats many of yveltals checks and enjoys u-turn pivoting, also yveltal breaks pogre's 2 primary checks, don and ferro, something that really helps
celesteela's especially good too, pivots on fairyceus, checks CM arceus formes, beats groundceus as well, can spread status to help yveltal clean
Marsh has a pretty effective coverage combo with yveltal allowing the two to break past everything but fairyceus

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • A physically defensive tank set can be used on Yveltal to check certain physical threats, namely E-Killer Arceus or Ho-oh it doesn't actually check this as sacred fire burn + BB breaks it, mention pdon instead, however it happens to struggle in managing a variety of dangerous Pokemon ranging from Mega Rayquaza to Marshadow and it can generally be replaced with a bulkier, non-Stealth Rock weak Pokemon, such as Arceus, that can fill the role better.
  • Hurricane - hits hard, not worth due to no recovery and acc
  • Darkinium and Flyinium Z can be used over Life Orb in order to provide Yveltal with a one-time, extremely powerful breaking attack, however without reliable setup options this leaves Yveltal coming up short in damage for the remainder of the match, missing out on important 2HKOes on various Pokemon such as defensive Primal Groudon.
Checks and Counters
===================
CM Arceus Formes in General. Steelceus, Darkceus, Rockceus, and groundceus can all beat yveltal via CM so just lump them all into 1 category
  • Special Walls: Choice Scarf and defensive Yveltal are hard-walled by Pokemon like Blissey, Chansey, and Clefable, which can threaten status and decent chip damage without being very threatened in return. mention that these hate knock off
Mention Pogre being able to avoid 2hko from any move and ohko back with thunder
Other than some minor things, great job on the analysis overall, glad to see what I started taking shape.

no mention of Toxic anywhere? one of my worst experiences vs yveltal is a random stray toxic that hits my best checks to it, namely fairies outside of mage and ho-oh.

Toxic is pretty much only viable on the defensive set, which is in OO and doesn't require special mention. If I were to mention Toxic in the OO for the defensive set, I would then have to mention its other utility options as well, which defeats the purpose of it being OO.

I disagree. a lot of analyses would have the point be like "A physically defensive set with Toxic, Roost, Foul Play, and Oblivion Wing is viable, but ...", it's not a problem imo. Like it's not clear that the physically defensive set would use Toxic without it. Otherwise, don't show examples of what items or mons Knock Off can be a problem for, since it's also OO
