Castform (NU Analysis)

Disaster Area

formerly Piexplode
[Overview]
- Peculiar ability Forecast, but actually suprisingly helpful, in a tier where users of Rain Dance and Sunny Day are pretty common.
- Answers sunnybeamers very well whilst on rain teams, so great partner to huntail
- Quite easy to wear down
- Base speed is quick, but a lot of important mons outspeed it.

[SET]

name: Rain Man
move 1: Rain Dance
move 2: Weather Ball
move 3: Thunder
move 4: Ice Beam
item: Leftovers
nature: Modest
evs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe
ivs: 0 Atk

[SET COMMENTS]
- Rain Dance lets it adjust its weather to have a powerful Weather Ball, and lets it support the team simultaneously
- Thunder is a great attack in Rain, and Ice Beam rounds off the coverage.
- Thunder does a minimum of 84% to standard Huntail, but bear in mind Huntail can 2HKO you in return

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- EV'd to outspeed Jolly Pupitar, Maximise Special Attack, then rest into HP for bulk.
- Beats Bellossom and checks Huntail, whatever the weather.
- In sun, resists sunnybeamer's Fire+Grass coverage, in Rain their Solarbeam is ineffective so you still beat them.
- Sleep Talk could work (probably over Thunder) if you want to beat Sleep Powder Sunnybeamers.
- Timid could be run to get a jump on positive-natured base 65s such as Pelipper, but it's not particularly useful, and with a measly 70 base Special Attack it wants all the power it can get.

[Other Options]
- Thunder Wave is probably the most enticing option, and if you were to run Sunny Day / Weather Ball / Solarbeam, you may well have a free moveslot for it, or something else.
- Movepool is suprisingly barren besides a wealth of similar Special Attacks that it can't make much use of.

[Checks and Counters]
- Depends on the weather, but generally, anything that beats or checks Huntail, whilst it's raining, and on the flipside, anything that checks Sunnybeamers whilst under sunlight.
- Has low base speed and is easy to wear down or force out, so Spikes and fast attackers such as Haunter, Vigoroth, and Plusle all demolish it fairly quickly, or force it out at least.
