Project Core Analysis Workshop (Discussing Threats to and Partners for Garchomp + Landorus-T)

Status
Not open for further replies.
Partner: Keldeo
Keldeo is an incredibly strong wallbreaker that can break through many of the walls both of these pokemon have problems with, and can take the fire type coverage moves that threaten Mega Scizor. It breaks through steel types like Ferrothorn and Paticularly Heatran. With Specs, Keldeo is great at breaking through pokemon and giving Gengar and Scizor the opportunity to sweep. Gengar and Scizor can also break through the fairy types that wall Keldeo, and Gengar in paticular can threaten Psychic and grass types who can threaten Keldeo.
Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

Partner: Kyurem-Black
Kyreum-Black is another incredibly effective partner. Both Gengar and Keldeo have trouble breaking through defensive walls. It can use Earth Power to deal with fire types threatening Mega Scizor, and Fusion Bolt to deal with Sp. Def Skarmory, who can also deal with the pair. It's an effective counter to many pokemon that check the pair, and is a very good partner.
Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
- Roost

Hello everyone!

This is my first post, I'm a total noob and I'm trying to better understand how competitive battling works.

So I'll give a try, but please, if you are reading and you are a newbie as well: don't take my words seriously hahaha

Threat:

Magnezone
@ Choice Scarf
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Flash Cannon
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Volt Switch

With Magnet Pull and Hidden Power (Fire)
it may be dangerous for Scizor, and steel/electric Pokemon are not that good for Gengar as well.

Partner:

Starmie
@ Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin

Which covers both Scizor's weakness for fire and Gengar weakness for ground and psico, and it may be useful as a defogger as well.

Volcarona @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 72 HP / 252 SpA / 184 Spe
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Giga Drain
- Bug Buzz

To be fair, a lot of teams are weak to this monster lol

Volcarona sets up in both of these guys, Mega Scizor Bullet Punch can't even 2HKO after a Swords Dance, and thanks to Flame Body, has a chance of getting burned.

Gengar best move against Volcarona is ussualy Icy Wind, allowing a partner with over 100 base speed to Revenge kill it, if Gengar is carrying WoW instead, then Gengar can Sludge Wave and do 59%-69%. Of course, with Stealth Rock on the field, Gengar OHKOes before Volc can even set up

Vs Mega Scizor
- No boost
32 Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 67-79 (20.3 - 24%) -- guaranteed 5HKO
32 Atk Mega Scizor U-turn vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 78-92 (23.7 - 27.9%) -- 87.3% chance to 4HKO

- After 1 SD
+2 32 Atk Technician Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 133-157 (40.4 - 47.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
+2 32 Atk Mega Scizor U-turn vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 156-183 (47.4 - 55.6%) -- 78.5% chance to 2HKO

- Neutral Burned
32 Atk Technician burned Mega Scizor Bullet Punch vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 33-39 (10 - 11.8%) -- possible 9HKO
32 Atk burned Mega Scizor U-turn vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Volcarona: 39-46 (11.8 - 13.9%) -- possible 8HKO

- lol
+1 252 SpA Volcarona Ember vs. 248 HP / 108 SpD Mega Scizor: 364-432 (106.1 - 125.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Vs Gengar
- Before Quiver Dance
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Sludge Wave vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona: 195-230 (59.2 - 69.9%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Icy Wind vs. 72 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona: 38-44 (11.5 - 13.3%) -- possible 8HKO

252 SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gengar: 234-276 (90.3 - 106.5%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO

- After Quiver Dance
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Sludge Wave vs. +1 72 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona: 130-153 (39.5 - 46.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Gengar Icy Wind vs. +1 72 HP / 0 SpD Volcarona: 25-30 (7.5 - 9.1%) -- possibly the worst move ever

+1 252 SpA Volcarona Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Gengar: 349-412 (134.7 - 159%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Partner

Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 104 Def / 156 SpD
Careful Nature
- Waterfall
- Thunder Wave / Toxic / Roar
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Defensive Gyarados can help check mons like Talonflame, Charizard (both megas), Heatran, non HP Electric Keldeo, Gliscor and Volcarona.

The main problem with Gyarados as a partner is that it opens a door for Offensive Electric types, making Pokémon like Mega Manetric, Thundurus and Raikou much more threatening to the team, so, having a hard check to Electric types is mandatory.

Another thing to keep in mind while using Defensive Gyarados is having good hazard control. Some of the Pokémon above can beat Gyarados 1v1 after Stealth Rock damage and a high enough roll.

Overall, Gyarados is a decent enough partner imo, but probably not the best choice (Everyone picked the better partners before me! dammit!)

Infernal

Banned deucer.
Rotom-W by kek123 ~ Natural partner for the core, helping with the obvious large weakness to Talonflame and Tornadus-T. Being able to handle Exca is also notable given how it's able to break through a Gengar + Mega Scizor rather easily. As always, the free switch in opportunities Rotom-W provides for its teammates is also useful. This is especially the case here, where Gengar heavily threatens common Rotom-W switch ins like Tangrowth and Clefable. Solid partner overall.

Keldeo by Cenamazing ~ Keld is another good pick and is often seen on teams with this core for a few reasons. For starters, Keldeo helps Mega Scizor with things like Tran and bulky Ground-types. It's also a nice check to many of the threats Gar is scared of, examples being Bisharp, Weavile, and Tar. Further, Keld and Gar form a nice wall breaking duo. This is because they do a nice job pressuring certain checks and counters for one another. For example, Keld can break through Mega Sab / Chansey, all while weakening other Gar checks like AV Torn-T via Scald and SR pressure. In exchange, Gar threatens things like Amoonguss, Mega Venu, and so on.

While the other submissions posted made some good points, I only ended up picking two top partners. This is because I would ideally have liked the final partner to address the core's weakness to offensive Electric-types (Mega Manec, Thund-I, and Raikou), and none of the remaining Pokemon proposed do this as well as I'd like. The Kyurem-B submission by Cenamazing comes close. However, I think it's a hard Pokemon to realistically find a place for on teams with this core and a generally inferior choice to Latios, who can cover Electric types and other threats like Keldeo and Char-Y. To address the issues mentioned, some additional partners to consider are Tar, Latios, Hippo, and Gastro.

New core:

Landorus-Therian @ Earth Plate / Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Rock Polish
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

Volcanion @ Power Herb
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Wave
- Solar Beam

This core is based around supporting a DD Lando-T sweep by using Volcanion as a partner to lure or weaken several of its checks. For example, Lando-T is bothered by Water types like Rotom-W, Slowbro, Cune, and so on. Volcanion normally does a nice job luring these threats in and either heavily weakening or killing them with a surprise Solar Beam. Once this is accomplished, Lando-T has an easier time doing its thing. Latios is another notable thing Volcanion commonly invites in and weakens well enough. This is helpful for Lando-T in situations where it's only able to grab an RP, mainly because Latios needs to be weakened a little before it's killed by a +0 Stone Edge (52.1 - 61.5%). Aside from this, Volcanion does other basic things for Lando-T by threatening Pokemon like Skarm and Tangrowth. In return, Lando-T's immunity to the Ground type attacks Volcanion attracts from Pokemon like Exca can be useful when trying to find opportunities to grab a SD or RP. It's also able to set up on other threats to Volcanion, with Terrak being one example.

You may now begin discussing threats and partners. Make sure to specify whether the Pokemon you mention is a threat or a partner. This will run for 4 or 5 days depending on activity. As discussed HERE, please do not reserve more than two threats or partners when posting. This is to keep things fair and equal for every person looking to contribute.

Mega Latias - Threat

Latias @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Roost
- Reflect Type / Thunder Wave

Latias @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 84 Def / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
- Stored Power
- Calm Mind
- Roost
- Refresh / Reflect Type

Any standard Mega Latias set can beat Lando-T + Volcanion, but I find these 2 sets the most effective ones.

The first one is the most effective in the current meta imo, it can take any hit form both Volcanion and Landorus, the former will just 5HKO most of the time with Sludge Wave, and the latter will barely 3HKO with Stone Edge, while Mega Latias can 2HKO and OHKO back respectively.

252+ Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Latias: 111-131 (30.4 - 35.9%) -- 44.8% chance to 3HKO
+2 252+ Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Mega Latias: 221-261 (60.7 - 71.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 SpA Mega Latias Ice Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 416-492 (130.4 - 154.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Volcanion Sludge Wave vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Mega Latias: 80-95 (21.9 - 26%) -- 7.4% chance to 4HKO (8.9% chance to 3HKO after burn damage)

0 SpA Mega Latias Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 190-224 (63.1 - 74.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

The Calm Mind set has the ability of use both Volcanion and Landorus as set up fodder, needing 2 CM to OHKO both of them. Volcanion can only 4HKO Latias whitout boosts, while Landorus can only 2HKO Latias after an SD, allowing Latias to beat them 1v1. This set has the obvious disadvantage of being walled by any Dark Type and most Steel Types.

(Keep in mind that Latias will outspeed Lando-T before it gets a Rock Polish)

252+ Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 84+ Def Mega Latias: 95-112 (26.1 - 30.8%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
+2 252+ Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 84+ Def Mega Latias: 188-222 (51.7 - 61.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

0 SpA Mega Latias Stored Power (20 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 36-43 (11.2 - 13.4%) -- possible 8HKO
+1 0 SpA Mega Latias Stored Power (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 156-184 (48.9 - 57.6%) -- 96.1% chance to 2HKO
+2 0 SpA Mega Latias Stored Power (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 346-408 (108.4 - 127.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ SpA Volcanion Sludge Wave vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Latias: 80-95 (22 - 26.1%) -- 9.1% chance to 4HKO (11.1% chance to 3HKO after burn damage)
252+ SpA Volcanion Sludge Wave vs. +1 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Latias: 54-64 (14.8 - 17.6%) -- possible 6HKO (89% chance to 4HKO after burn damage)
252+ SpA Volcanion Sludge Wave vs. +2 248 HP / 0 SpD Mega Latias: 40-48 (11 - 13.2%) -- possible 8HKO (guaranteed 5HKO after burn damage)

0 SpA Mega Latias Stored Power (20 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 33-39 (10.9 - 12.9%) -- possible 8HKO
+1 0 SpA Mega Latias Stored Power (60 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 142-168 (47.1 - 55.8%) -- 77.3% chance to 2HKO
+2 0 SpA Mega Latias Stored Power (100 BP) vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 313-370 (103.9 - 122.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Tyranitar - Partner

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 100 HP / 252 Atk / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Choice Band Tyranitar helps trapping or killing problematic Pokémon for the core, like Lati@s, Slowbro (which can be annoying if survives Solar Beam from Volcanion and uses T-Wave/Slack Off the same turn), Defensive Starmie, Choice Scarf Victini, Kyurem Black, etc.

Keldeo-Resolute @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Scald
- Focus Blast

You can OHKO Lando-T with Water STABs and OHKO / 2HKO Volcanion with Focus Blast and Secret Sword respectively, but Solar Beam has a high chance to OHKO Keldeo and Soft Sand EQ does a lot of damage vs Keld.

Keldeo vs Lando-T
252+ Atk Soft Sand Landorus-T Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Keldeo: 255-300 (78.9 - 92.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ Atk Landorus-T Stone Edge vs. 0 HP / 4 Def Keldeo: 70-83 (21.6 - 25.6%) -- 1.7% chance to 4HKO
EQ does a ton to Keldeo, but it can take one after SR. Stone Edge however, has a low chance to 4HKO.

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Scald vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 470-554 (147.3 - 173.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Landorus-T: 113-133 (35.4 - 41.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 644-762 (201.8 - 238.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Landorus-T: 176-207 (55.1 - 64.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Keldeo's Water moves OHKO and Focus Blast 2HKOs Lando-T, but Secret Sword only manages a 3HKO.

Keldeo vs Volcanion
252+ SpA Volcanion Solar Beam vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 314-370 (97.2 - 114.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 108-127 (33.4 - 39.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Volcanion Sludge Wave vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Keldeo: 124-147 (38.3 - 45.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
Solar Beam has a high chance to OHKO Keldeo (guaranteed after SR), but all other moves only manage a 3HKO vs Keldeo.

252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Secret Sword vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 178-210 (59.1 - 69.7%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Keldeo Focus Blast vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Volcanion: 319-376 (105.9 - 124.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Keldeo Scald vs. Water Absorb Volcanion: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time
Keldeo Hydro Pump vs. Water Absorb Volcanion: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time
Volcanion is immune to Keldeo's Water moves, but Secret Sword 2HKOs and Focus Blast OHKOs Volcanion.

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Thunder Wave
- Soft-Boiled
- Calm Mind
Partner:
Clefable works well with this core because it provides speed control so that mean that Volcanion is able to out speed many of its treats like latios also clefable is able to switch into many pokemon that threaten this core and force them to switch out for example it is able to switch into latios non spec keldeo and rotom-w all the can cause this core lots of problem and many more clefable also benefit lando-t becuase it many mean that lando-t only has to set up SD and not rock polish if clefable has thunder waved enough of the team clefabel also just provides a nice over all pivot for these two pokemon since the are offensive and not looking to switch into many hits clefable also provides another set up sweeper in case lando-t does not have the best of match up.

Weavile @ Life Orb /Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Pursuit
Partner:
Weavile is also nice with this core because it can trap some of volcanions switch in for example latios and latias it also weaken some of the pokemon that the core has a hard time with like rotom-w and keldeo and azumarill and slowbro even though the core has power herb volc this still benefit weavile as these mon are also wall to weavile and so it can cause even more proble once volcanion has removed them also volcanion benefits weavile as it helps it with many bulky steel type weavile doesnt like for example skarmory ferrothorn heatran and mega scizor weavile also help lando-t as if it weaken stuff like keldeo then they wont risk it because it would put it in rage of EQ so then when they dont switch into keldeo straight away it get a free boost of the fear of EQ also weavile provides nice priority since this core is pretty slow and it speed its also very good and can help the core deal with things like serp better since it now has a way to revenge kill it and a way to revenge kill LO torn-t since it can be very problematic for the core.

Scizor-Mega @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 196 Def / 64 SpD OR
Impish Nature
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Roost
- Pursuit / Swords Dance

Mega Scizor makes a good partner for this core due to it providing a slow U-turn. SD+U-turn Mega Scizor also helps Lando-T break stuff or clean if it can't take out the entire opposing team (either way it's gonna be easier to clean with both MScizor and Lando-T setting up) whereas Pursuit variants trap Lati@s for Volcanion which is nice (be aware of HP Fire though). There's probably a better EV spread, but the one listed takes a HP Fire from max SpA MDian from full health, and this benchmark also happens to let it live max attack variants' HP Fires after rocks. I like more physically defensive Mega Scizor variants 'cause bulk so yeah. The standard 248 HP / 60 Def / 200 SpD variant is able to take HP Fire from LO Latios at full health as well as taking on all fairies more consistently (just enough investment to avoid the max SpA MDian OHKOing after SR, also takes 2 Focus Blasts from modest Gardevoir, SR+1 spike+Hyper Voice+Focus Blast from timid MGarde most of the time and uninvested lefties Clefable's Fire Blast before a Calm Mind) if you'd prefer a more SpD spread, although this comes at the cost of it's ability to sponge physical hits consistently.

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp / Thunder Wave
- Pain Split / Thunder Wave

Rotom-W provides a slow Volt Switch as well as Will-O and T-wave to ease setup and speed tiers nicely. It baits out Grass-types for Volcanion to break through and just generally fire a powerful hit off against expecting a switch-in, and it is a tried-and-true partner for both Volcanion and all variants of Lando-T including double dance.

Partner: Latias

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish/Roost
- Defog

Latias provides a nice offensive check to fast Electric types which runs Ice coverage to deal even with Landorus-T (Mega Manectric, Raikou) while using Defog to preserve Volcanion's HP from SR. STABs are mandatory to deal with Mega Venusaur/Amoonguss. I like Healing Wish in order to restore one of the other members of the core which don't have recovery.

Partner: Utility Ferrothorn

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball/Power Whip
- Thunder Wave

If you like the balanced route, you can use this spiky thing to round off the core nicely with hazards support. The choice between SR or Spikes is up to you, but I like SR more than the latter because it is generally more useful not being avoided by Flying types and Levitate users. Leech Seed is a nice form of recovery when paired with two partners which are able to pressure the opponent, thus having more set-up opportunities. Thunder Wave is here to cripple common switch-ins: strong and unexpected (and much more useful than Protect most of the time). Then there is a STAB of your choice.

Top Partners:

Clefable by kek123 ~ Clefable is a natural partner for this core, mainly because it's able to help Landorus-T and Volcanion deal with threats like Latios, Mega Latias, Kyurem-B, Rotom-W, and Weavile. Otherwise, there's not much else to say here. Clefable simply works as a nice glue here to make certain threats less of an issue for the core, all while providing an additional win condition benefiting from Volcanion's and Lando-T's ability to cover and break down Steel-types.

Ferrothorn by nameless90 ~ Ferro is a good partner for a few reasons. For starters, it's able to provide SR for the core, which is good with Lando-T occupying the role of a sweeper. This aside, Ferro provides valuable resistances to things like Water, Electric, and Dragon, which is useful versus threats like Mega Latias, Rotom-W, Manaphy, and various other Pokemon. A neutrality to Ice also proves useful against other threats like Kyurem-B, who slices right through the core otherwise. An example of Ferro being used on a team with this core can be seen here, where it's used to fulfill many of the roles discussed before.

Weavile by kek123 ~ Because the core is quite slow, something with a fair amount of speed is needed to avoid the possibility of being ran over by a few faster threats. Weavile fits the bill. It's able to not only Pursuit trap threats like Latios for the core, but also threaten other problematic Pokemon like Serp and Torn-T. Weavile also does a nice job weakening threats like Keldeo, who is placed in range for Lando-T's +0 EQ after being hit by a Knock Off. Weavile's ability to remove items from the likes of Skarm and pressure other things like Slowbro is similarly appreciated by the core, particularly Lando-T.

New core:

Kyurem @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Hidden Power Fire / Focus Blast

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

Regular Kyurem has never been featured in either core analysis thread. It's something I grew interested in after seeing its pre-analysis and some mentions around the OU forum lately (here, for example), so I figured it'd be a cool Pokemon to analyze for this round!

As far as Kyurem goes, it's blessed with a higher special attack than Kyurem-B and can run Specs more effectively than its counterpart as such. Specs Ice Beam is strong enough to 2HKO standard Calm Clefable, dealing 51 - 60.1% total. Even Pokemon like Ferro aren't safe, risking a 2HKO on the switch in (48 - 56.5%). Draco blows through Ice resists like Rotom-W and Slowbro, while Kyurem's other coverage moves like Earth Power can slice through Steel types like Mega Metagross with good prediction. With the abundance of Ground types in the tier and Kyurem's natural resistances to Water, Electric, and Grass, it's able to find a good number of opportunities to come in and fire a strong attack. Rotom-W helps Kyurem in a few ways. Volt Switch brings Kyurem in for free versus common Rotom-W switch ins like Amoonguss and Tangrowth, allowing you to apply offensive pressure on the enemy team. Further, Rotom-W covers threats like Exca, Azu, and Jirachi, all of which are issues for Kyurem. It's a good pivot overall and functions well as a partner here.

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell
One major problem with this core is that it has an incredible amount of trouble dealing with special walls. And with Chansey as the premier special wall in the tier, it's one of the best counters to this pair. None of Kyurem's attacks 2HKO Chansey, and it can always heal any damage it takes with soft-boiled, and precede to wear Kyurem down with it's combination of Toxic and Seismic Toss. Rotom-Wash can't even dent Chansey, and Chansey can easily wear it down, while using Heal Bell or Natural Cure to deal with burns. Both of these pokemon have immense trouble dealing with this potent special wall.
Partner: Azumarill
Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Superpower
As mentioned earlier, this pair has immense trouble dealing with Special walls like Chansey. However, it also has a lot of trouble with Dragon Types and Fighting Types. Latios and Latias aren't fazed by any of Rotom-W's attacks and can land an easy KO on it with a Draco Meteor or two. It also outspeeds and destroys Kyurem with a Draco Meteor of it's own. Fighting Types like Keldeo are also a problem. Keldeo in paticular outspeeds and OHKOs Kyurem with Secret Sword, and can 2HKO Rotom-W, rendering it unable to pivot in. Azumarill is a deadly physical wallbreaker that patches these holes. It's strong physical STAB moves destroy pokemon like Chansey and Clefable, rendering them unable to wall Kyurem. It can also deal with both Dragon and Fighting types due to it's fairy typing and access to Play Rough. Azumarill also tanks hits from other strong attackers that threaten the core like Mega Gardevoir and can OHKO them with it's STAB Attacks. It also appreciates Kyurem's ability to deal with Grass and Electric/Poison Types with Ice Beam and Earth Power respectively, and Rotom-W's ability to pivot it in with Volt Switch, as it has trouble switching in on attacks. Overall, Azumarill is a great addition to the core that helps deal with many irritating threats.

Threat:

Gardevoir-Mega @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Trace
EVs: 16 HP / 8 Def / 232 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Focus Blast
- Psyshock
- Taunt

Any M-Gardevoir set such as this and the SubCM variant as long as its a Timid nature will pose a threat to this core. M-Gardevoir clicks Hyper Voice freely while taking little from Rotom-W and OHKO'ing Kyurem. Kyurem isn't able to KO M-Gardevoir if it's evolved with Ice Beam as it will only do 71% max.

Partner:

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 224 SpD / 32 Spe
Careful Nature
- Iron Head
- U-turn
- Healing Wish
- Stealth Rock

Jirachi covers this cores susceptibility to a majority of Fairy types, which include Clefable who can Calm Mind on Rotom-W and beat this core by itself, M-Diancie whos balance breaking prowess is good at cushioning up cores like this, and the threat up above in M-Gardevoir. Provides Healing Wish support which both Kyurem and Rotom-W appreciate.

Tornadus-Therian (M) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Hurricane
- Knock Off
- U-turn
- Superpower

Torn-t goes really well with the core because it provides a really nice Volt-turn core with rotom-w giving Specs kyurem constant switch so it can spam draco and the test of it high damage attacks also rotom-w goes really well as a defensive core with Rotom-w as its only weak to one type being electric which kyurem resist making the core almost prefect for defensive purposes also Torn-t can deal with many things that problem kyurem e.g keldeo and latios Torn-t also provide nice speed since the core is pretty slow.Over all Volt-turn core with a hard hitting are really good.

Partner

Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 224 HP / 176 SpD / 108 Spe
Calm Nature
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Thunder Wave
- U-turn

Celebi is a pokemon that I feel is over all underrated it OU wall major treats like keldeo and latios which is very help full since they both give this core problems .All celebi also provides speed cotrol which is nice for the core since it kind off slow . Celebi also provides a nice Volt-turn core with rotom-w and like I said for torn-t spec kyurem really benefits from also Celebi and rotom-w form as nice defensive core only being weak to dark and Bug well and ghost but the not many ghost types in the meta right now that hit hard since gengar is pretty rare

Ev spread: celebi evs spread is a bit wired but the speed is for base 70's and it not max HP because 176 reaches a skip point so it more EV efficient.

Infernal

Banned deucer.
Small number of submissions this week, so only two winners:

Mega Scizor by HailFall and Jirachi by AM ~ The core has an obvious weakness to Fairy types, so having Steel types like Mega Sciz and Jira as partners is natural. Both of these Pokemon can help the core versus troublesome threats like Mega Diancie, Mega Gardevoir, and so on. Their ability to use U-turn to bring Kyurem in for free is also notable. Individually, they also contribute some useful things. For example, Jira brings SR to the table and can revive both members back to full health via Healing Wish. It's also a more reliable overall answer to Latios than Mega Sciz, which is appreciated by the core. Mega Sciz takes a more offensive approach, appreciating Kyurem's ability to soften up the opposing team before attempting a sweep. The ability to check other threats like Loom, Mega Lop, and Weavile also prove useful for the core. Overall, they pair well with the core and help patch up several issues.

New core:

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 248 HP / 176 Def / 68 SpA / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Roost
- Defog
- Heat Wave

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Def / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
- Scald
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Roar / Sleep Talk

Cune really dislikes Spikes, as these hazards significantly hinder its ability to switch in. Ferro can easily lay down several layers in Cune's face and use other moves like Leech Seed to pose further annoyances. As such, having a method of hazard control by Cune's side always proves useful. Zap fits the bill, providing Defog and dealing with Ferro nicely. In addition, it's able to help Cune by checking other troublesome Grass types like Loom. Another thing worth mentioning is how Zap can help deal with a few Pokemon capable of overwhelming Cune once it's asleep (especially when lacking Sleep Talk). For example, once Cune is asleep, a Pokemon like offensive Mega Sciz or Mega Pinsir may try coming in to SD and significantly weaken you afterwards. Zap checks both threats relatively well and is useful to have in these situations. Overall, this is a balanced core centered around supporting Cune and has multiple partners to choose from. Zap hasn't been featured in either core analysis thread so far and has been the topic of discussion in the Viability Rankings for a while. I figured it'd be a cool Pokemon to analyze for this round, and I hope to see various submissions here!

Threats:

1)

Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Even though Charizard doesn't like Thunderbolt from Zapdos, it can switch into Suicune or anything else from Zapdos and can start firing off Drought-boosted Fire Blast on Zapdos (OHKO) or Solar Beam on Suicune (67% minimum).

2)

Heracross @ Heracronite
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Close Combat
- Pin Missile
- Rock Blast
- Swords Dance

Mega Heracross can tank any one attack from Zapdos or Suicune, set-up a Swords Dance and OHKO both of them with Pin Missile or Rock Blast respectively. The bulkier spread can even set up a Substitute in front of Suicune's weak Scald which only has a tiny chance of breaking it with Scald (need max rolls).

Threat:

Kyurem-Black @ Life Orb
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Fusion Bolt
- Roost

Kyurem-B can 2HKO Suicune with Fusion Bolt and OHKOs Zapdos with Ice Beam. It also resists both Pokémon's STAB moves. Suicune can beat it if it Scald burns it though.

252 SpA Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Ice Beam vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 398-468 (103.9 - 122.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

4 Atk Life Orb Teravolt Kyurem-B Fusion Bolt vs. 240 HP / 252+ Def Suicune: 195-231 (48.6 - 57.6%) -- 51.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Thundurus @ Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave / Nasty Plot
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Focus Blast

Electric types are threats to this core because they put a lot of pressure on it, I focused on Thundurus because it's one of the best offensive electric types right now, both this and the Nasty Plot set are threats to the core because they 2HKO Zapdos and Suicune with Thunderbolt without rocks up.
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Suicune: 330-390 (81.6 - 96.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
  • 252 SpA Life Orb Thundurus Thunderbolt vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Zapdos: 204-242 (53.2 - 63.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Partner:

Latias @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 72 HP / 184 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Healing Wish
- Roost

Latias gives the core a check to Electric types that were annoying to the team such as Rotom-W, M-Manectric and Thundurus (depending on the set). It's a switch-in to M-Charizard Y, another big threat to the core and thanks to its typing and speed it beats M-Heracross, Kyurem-B and defensive Grass types like Amoonguss and M-Venusaur. Healing Wish supports Suicune giving it another chance to set up if it's too low to switch into anything and Roost gives Latias longevity vs some of the threats mentioned before + the core already has Defog support.

Ferrothorn @ Chople Berry
Ability: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Stealth Rock

Ferro goes well with this core as it is able to help with the electric weakness of the core although it doesn't deal with Mega manectric . Ferro also allows the core to deal with other stall breakers like Mega gard and Mega zam thanks to chople berry .Ferro also help against lati's if they are not hp fire variants.

Partner
Venusaur

Decided that I no longer think venu is that good with the core. But is some one else want to do it feel free.
