DPL 3 Set/Team Dump

Some cool sets I've used in DPL

Keldeo-Resolute @ Waterium Z
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Icy Wind
- Protect
Not a whole lot of thought on KOs that z-hydro would pick up, but it did ohko a metagross in my game and generally provided a very strong attack that I thought was a cool nuke option.

Excadrill @ Steelium Z
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drill Run
- Iron Head
- Swords Dance
- Protect
SD driller was something i really liked as drill forces a lot of switches into intimidate and the combo of SD + a z move can KO scarf landorus. This lets drill beat its most common check and allows excadrill to be very threatening the remainder of the game.

Pidgeot-Mega @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Tangled Feet
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 30 Atk
- Hurricane
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- U-turn
- Protect
Burd was a mon that sounded really cool. The team didnt really need the fire move and instead really appreciated getting momentum as flying resists came in to get free turns for hydreigon, heatran and landorus-t. HP ice snipes lando-t and mence bc burd is speedy. Was a cool mon.

Snorlax @ Figy Berry
Ability: Gluttony
Happiness: 0
EVs: 68 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Def / 60 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Double-Edge
- High Horsepower
- Curse
- Recycle
got inspiration from watching GSC and all the double edge lax i saw there. after a curse, d edge hits stupid hard and high horsepower can catch steels. Think I stole the lax spread from somebody else like Sam or matame, generally just wanting to do damage faster than standard curse lax

Hakuho (Hariyama) @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 164 Def / 92 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Poison Jab
- Ice Punch

Offensive Hariyama. Reduction in burn damage makes Flame Orb essentially a free boost when coupled with Grassy Terrain :d Offers Fake Out support and lots of fire power!

A (Tapu Koko) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Electric Surge
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Dazzling Gleam
- Discharge

Specs Tapu Koko. There's usually one Ground-type per team, so you can usually get away with being locked into an Electric STAB move. Specs give Tapu Koko the power that it missed out on, and Dazzling Gleam actually does damage :>

finally (Salamence) @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 108 HP / 184 Atk / 8 SpD / 208 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Double-Edge
- Roost
- Protect
- Tailwind

A set that finally and I came up with. Basically a bulky Tailwind mon that can last longer than your classic Twind Mence thanks to Roost. You're not missing out on any power, either, because Aerilate Double-Edge hits like a truck. I think the EV lets it take an HP Ice from Tapu Koko.

Rhyperior @ Scope Lens / Rockium Z
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 112 HP / 252 Atk / 144 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Rock Slide / Substitute
- Drill Run
- Stone Edge
- Protect

Inspired by Critana, here's CritPerior! Ignoring Intimidate and Defense boosts to nail a crit with STAB Drill Run + Stone Edge half of the time :d. Use with TR support ofc. Gravity support would be ideal, too, if you can fit it. Rain teams appreciate the Rhyperior's LRod support (unless you have Tapu Koko, which may clash with Rhyperior ;x). Substitute is a nice way to abuse opponent's Protect stalling, whereas Rock Slide offers powerful spread damage.

Totoro (Snorlax) @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Gluttony
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 124 HP / 136 Atk / 152 Def / 96 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Double-Edge
- Belly Drum
- Recycle
- Curse

Dual Set Up Mono Attack Lax. Can go fast with Belly Drum or slow and steady with Curse. Not being able to touch Gengar sucks, though, so be sure to have an answer to that (Hoopa-U, Pursuit Tar, Soak Tapu Fini :d)

EmbCPT

VGC 2022 Masters Champion
I almost brought this FIRE team to a match. It's fun, but it sucks... :s

Latias @ Mago Berry
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Ice Beam
- Tailwind
- Protect

Tyranitar @ Rockium Z
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 88 HP / 252 Atk / 168 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Slide
- Crunch
- Low Kick
- Protect

Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Atk / 28 Def / 172 SpD / 24 Spe
Careful Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Substitute
- Leech Seed
- Protect

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Dragon Dance
- Protect

Tapu Bulu @ Assault Vest
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Atk / 176 SpD / 48 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Horn Leech
- Nature's Madness
- Superpower

Volcarona @ Charti Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 148 HP / 252 SpA / 108 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Flamethrower
- Giga Drain
- Protect

Tyranitar @ Chople Berry
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 156 Atk / 36 Def / 64 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Rock Slide
- Protect

I think i used this weeks 1 and 3 and while it didnt do much i think its a cool set. Unfortunately it got swagged week 1 and had to be sacked week 3. Used to be t wave over rocks but rocks + scarf lando is really good. I just wanted my ttar to take a bit more of a supportive role but still do a bit of damage. Pursuit is neat to damage opposing politoeds when you switch in on them and then they try to switch out. I dont really remember what the evs do but i know pursuit kos a latios switching out 100% of the time. It also takes a -1 fighting gem cc from hitmontop (i had lando on the same team)

Matame

New Rules
Hi so imma post a bunch of sets i theorized and planned on bringing but ended up not doing so bc this meta tends to punish kewl things :(

Milotic @ Psychic Seed
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Coil
- Hypnosis
- Recover
- Scald
COIL MILO I'm defo not the person who made this but i'd like to think i've given it some airtime recently. Phat mon that spams sleep moves, pretty much only rivaled by amoonguss but u get reliable recovery which is cool. You can do cool things with the boosts, most notably psych up with all sorts of mons, the one I like the most being Metagross but it can work with shit like Entei too.

Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Heat Wave/Flamethrower
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Solar Beam
- Protect
HP ice zard is sick af for hitting Mence and Zygarde, the latter having kinda got out of fashion for some reason but it was nice when it was around. I used this on a fullroom team I gave a bunch of ppl which i haven't rly came back to for a while but its fun along with this set.

Snorlax @ Leftovers/Iapapa Berry
Ability: Thick Fat/Gluttony
EVs: 160 HP / 96 Atk / 252 Def
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Return
- Curse
- High Horsepower/Sleep Talk
- Rest
This set gets around status and knock stopping it from completely sealing games. Sleep turns can be annoying hence why Sleep talk is an option and if u still want that quick boost of health at the start Iapapa is still usable but yeah it should work in theory haven't extensively tested it out tho. Also ban lax

Tapu Fini @ Light Clay
Ability: Misty Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 200 Def / 40 SpD / 16 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Swagger
- Muddy Water/Heal Pulse
Ok so after playing with Ninetales + set up spam a bit I realized screens + set up is broken in this meta so i wanted to look elsewhere to see if there were any others. I tried meowstic but I didn't like it. I tried fini and it was a bit better. You basically aim to be the ultimate support pokemon. Screens make you fat and swagger helps shit like lax or zygarde become a threat faster, which is easier to execute when nothing can ko or 2hko u under screens.

Venomoth @ Focus Sash
Ability: Wonder Skin/Tinted Lens
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Quiver Dance
- Sleep Powder
- Baton Pass
- Sludge Bomb
Prob just a worse version of Smeargle but u threaten the tapus that come in on ur sleep powders/fake outs. It also looks cooler in team preview :^) I destroyed toxigen or someone with it in a test match once so doubt it's that bad

what could you possibly ask for in a tank? monstrous mixed defenses? Relevant resists? Speed control? The ability to survive almost any non-z move attack in the tier, and respond by punching a massive hole in your enemy's team every time?

I'm here to sell you a tank that you aren't using for some reason.

Kyurem Black has a BST of 700; the only intelligent way to run it is to get as much value from every one of its stats as possible, and that's what this set does. Most people run this thing with a life orb. That's why it has such a poor winrate in DPL. they're boosting a stat that is already high enough at the expense of a tenth of their HP every turn (which is a lot.) My set will cut corners where most kyube sets have more than they need, and instead boost the defensive stats, making this mon better all-round.

bound 2 (Kyurem-Black) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 252 HP / 168 Def / 88 Spe
Quiet Nature
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Earth Power
- Icy Wind

Assault vest boosts its lowest stat by 50%, and the fact that you have 125 base HP makes it even sweeter. The defense investment is a dump, but it is important, to keep your defense up to par with your Sdef. you want this pokemon to survive all hits because your retaliation is going to be powerful regardless. the speed investment outpaces garchomps after an icy wind, but its really there for charizard and 101 genies. (i'll be FUCKED if i'm gonna lose to garchomp kiddies on the ladder.) if you choose to run dragon claw or another coverage move over icy wind, just drop the speed in favor of defense. i boost Spa with my nature because a 10% boost to a 120 stat is better than a 10% boost to a 100 stat. dropping speed just makes sense because with the item factored, speed is the lowest stat and is therefore the cheapest to make up for with EVs.

Run Kyube right and win games.

A cool af team but unfortunately I played it like shit or something:

I was fighting Yellow Paint so I decided to go really hard on countering Rain, which he unfortunately didn't bring for like the first time in his past 2374347293482934 battles. I noticed in particular that Conkeldurr under TR destroyed his team (I mean, whose team does it not destroy, am I right :^)???) so I decided to build around that. As usual I turned to the year's VGC teams for some initial inspiration, and found Ryosuke Kosuge's VGC 2013 teams, which (a) featured TR Conkeldurr and (b) I really liked. I initially had about 8 Pokemon I wanted to put onto the team (these 6 plus Amoonguss and Scrafty) but in the end I settled on these 6. It's a pretty standard team, except for a few weird gimmicks I threw on because they were fun and cool:
  • Skill Swap Cresselia + Heatran, yada yada, we've all seen this before.
  • Double manual Sunny Day from Cresselia and Tyranitar, to help against the Rain matchup I was pretty certain I would face. (sighs in French)
  • SolarBeam Heatran, because I thought it had generally good matchups against Yellow Paint's teams. Heatran is also really excellent in Gen V, which is another reason I used double Sunny Day to support it.
  • Fling Iron Ball Tyranitar. This spread underspeeds a lot of TR stuff, notably Amoonguss, and chunks it like hell, but unfortunately I didn't really put it to good use in the battle. It was a nice thought, though.
Weird IV explanations:
  • 3 IV Conkeldurr: outruns paralysed 252+ Shaymin-S
  • 0 Spe Iron Ball TTar: underspeeds 0- Amoonguss
  • 17 Spe Heatran: goes after my own Cresselia in TR
  • 2 Atk / 30 Def Thunudurus-I: this is Gen V you dummy
Conkeldurr @ Life Orb
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 72 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Def / 96 SpD
Adamant Nature
IVs: 3 Spe
- Hammer Arm

- Crunch
- Fling
- Sunny Day

Landorus-Therian @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 84 HP / 252 Atk / 172 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake

Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Skill Swap

Thundurus @ Charti Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 60 HP / 160 SpA / 36 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 2 Atk / 30 Def
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Thunder Wave
- Taunt

Heatran @ Expert Belt
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 28 Def / 228 SpA
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 17 Spe
- Heat Wave
- Earth Power
- Solar Beam
- Protect

Right team, wrong matchup? Right team, wrong player?

also I think this is the first time I've written about a team and had the post be under 500 words

Shaymin @ Grass Gem
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seed Flare
- Earth Power
- Tailwind
- Protect

hedgehog shaymin almost took the win :v

Much better rain check than skymin because it's a grass-type that can actually chew an Ice Beam. Great TW setter with the bulk and Sash Skymin really sucks with TTar everywhere. Also obligatory "it's cuter"
