...a mono grass-type with leaf storm and contrary? i feel like we've already been here before

also, i'm presuming solar blade is going to have the same rules as solar beam, ergo one-turn in sun?

In Alola there should be a permanent Trick Room because many pokemons are slow. This may be the reason so many pokemons are naturally slow.
Talking about Lurantis, it is a meager user of Contrary because it can use only opposite Intimidates to turn them into an Atk boost and not much else. Icy Wind is super effective, etc...

Spe stat ruins all, being a Grass Defogger is not enough to justify using this pokemon.

Well at least it got out of the awful "pure grass type with only grass moves" niche. X-Scissor! Poison Jab (well...)! Brick Break!

its something let me have this
Who needs X-Scissor when you have access to LEECH LIFE..!

...who would've ever thought one could actually say this one day...

btw, kinda silly that so many pokemon have their special moves unique to them. I mean, Solar blade is not good or anything, still I'd have liked some other pokemon to get that too.

Ash Borer

I've heard they're short of room in hell
It can heal itself too. I suppose something that's not stealth rock weak, can heal, defog, isn't totally frail and has a bit of offensive bite so it isn't helpess is worth a teamslot in a lower tier, right?

Aromatherapy/Defog/Leaf Storm/Synthesis.

It's a weaker Serperior with a support movepool. It could make a good support in the lower tiers.

Yeah this pokemon is disappointing. One of the worst new pokemon. It could go potentially have a mixed TR attacker set but aside from that its viability is very limited. It may have some use in the lower tiers where serperior is banned.

Physical Solar Beam would be somewhat interesting if there weren't so many better sun sweepers.

(Also first post woo!)

sigh i liked a lot the design of this pokemon... monograss isnt even a particulary good type for tanks or offensive oriented pokemon. fairy/bug at least it would given it a more niche typing... superpower or hammer arm tutor may make a contrary mixed set salvageable.

Serperior not only is blazing fast, but bulkier, and even have better special coverage XD, it may even be outclassed as a contrary user by eviolite serviper in lower tiers DX

It does learns weatherball, so maybe in trickroom weather teams?

question, if rest talk selects hyper beam does it still have to recharge one turn?

It learns false swipe so at least can still be used for pokemon hunting ingame...

why must they treat my second favorite alola mon like this, this does not look like it should have 45 base speed

I'm kind of pissed that its only good stat is almost irrelevant thanks to contrary leaf storm. It might be an okay defogger in like nu with leaf storm/defog/synthesis/???. Last slot can be aromatherapy, leech life, brick break or hp. Aromatherapy sounds like the best option but I might end up using leech life or brick break just so its attack stat doesn't completely go to waste...

I know what you mean. Both Lurantis and Vikavolt are my favorite this gen and they have terrible speed stats. Lurantis' main issue is that despite having low speed it lacks the HP needed for longevity and support moves such as powders or leech seed and to make matters worse it has access to no pshysical moves that take advantage of contrary such as Superpower Hammer arm or a new physical variant of Leaf storm. But no we needed a crappy physical Solarbeam.

A slow physical attacker with some bulk... it still looks like it should be Bug/Grass.

Well it certainly has it choice of STABs. You'd think it would just be between Petal Blizzard or Leaf Blade, but it does get Contrary as a Hidden Ability and Leaf Storm as an Egg Move (and while not its focused stat, its Special Attack is decent). It has quite the range of coverage with Slash/Return, X-Scissor/Leech Life, Brick Break, Aerial Ace, Payback, and Poison Jab. It does get some utility with Growth (and it learns Sunny Day), Ingrain, and Synthesis. Other Egg Moves also include Giga Drain, Aromatherapy, and Defog.

Hm, I think its a Pokemon desperately trying to be competitive or just good yet that Speed holds it back and pure Grass isn't the greatest type. Surprised it doesn't learn the other Slash variants (Night Slash, Psycho Cut, Shadow Claw, Cross Poison) and getting Super Luck as on of its Abilities. It might be a good in-game Pokemon if you need a Grass-type, I'm even considering it for my time now.

EDIT: And then I looked over Bounsweet/Steenee/Tsareena and found it also to be an okay in-game Grass-type. So I guess I'll have to see...
