The ASB TournamentGrass-type Gym Arena

Surrounded by thousands of screaming Pokemon fansGrass-type Pokemon, the ASBGrass-type Gym Arena can be best described as a standard Pokemon battling arena. In the center of the arena lies a dirt-based floor outlined to show two separate sides (with a white Pokeball center). Surrounding the dirt is a moat filled with water. The moat is about fifteen feet wide and creates a perimeter around the dirt arena. The arena itself is eighty feet wide, one hundred feet long. All moves, weathers, and abilities are legal for the match, since it's an outdoor arena with a large water source and packed dirt. Pokemon must stay in the arena (or the dimensions of the arena in the case of Flying Pokemon, who cannot leave the arena and cannot fly higher than sixty feet). This prevents Pokemon from injuring the crowd watching the tournament. There are ALMOST no outside interruptions by fans, Pokemon, or other elements not associated with the current battle. However, the spectators are impatient and want to see a match. If a trainer hesitates excessively during the battle (read: goes over DQ), they will swarm and attack.

Summary:
- Standard rules
- If you go over DQ the spectators will brutally murder you. LOAs will be judged on a case-by-case basis, but don't push it.

<Snorlax> [Owen] (M)

Nature: Quiet (-10% Evasion)

Type: Normal

Normal: Normal STAB; +1 BAP on attacks that match dominant arena type after 3 actions. Unable to have Thrash or Outrage disrupted by oncoming damage.

About: A Munchlax with a knack for battling, there is nothing Owen likes more than a good fight (Other than food, naturally). Attracted by a honey tree, Owen was quick to ignore it in order to defend himself against Stella's Close-Combat, much to everyone's surprise. After a short stalemate, Owen was quickly brought down by Will's Megahorn and captured.
Loving the opportunity to train and become a strong, fat Snorlax, the young Munchlax trains hard and wishes to battle as many strong opponents as he can.....after he is done eating.

Immunity: (Passive) This Pokemon's body has an immensely strong immune response to venom and does not take poison damage when Poisoned. Toxic Poisoning will not do damage; however, it will continue to grow more severe.

Thick Fat: (Passive) This Pokemon has a great deal of extra fat or muscle that increases its resistance to extreme heat or extreme cold, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire- and Ice-typed attacks to the next level of resistance (2x weak becomes neutral, neutral becomes resistance, etc.)

Gluttony (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED): (Passive) This Pokemon devours healing and stat increasing berries at 50% health (flat) instead of 25% health (flat).

<Hydreigon> [Giggles] (M)

Nature: Hasty (-Defense, +Speed, +15% Accuracy)

Type: Dragon/Dark

Dragon: Dragon STAB; -1 BAP on incoming neutral attacks Dragon itself would resist (e.g. -1 BAP on Aqua Jet against Garchomp.) Unable to have Thrash or Outrage disrupted by oncoming damage.

Dark: Dark STAB; ignores Attract and Confusion status entirely when using Dark-type damaging and non-damaging attacks.

About: Finally free of his blindness, Giggles has decided to fulfill his dream as a clown. Using his custom-made socker gloves and mediocre sense of humor, the Hydreigon could not be happier.

Ability:
Levitate (Passive):

This Pokemon naturally floats above the earth when released or easily takes flight, evading the Ground moves Bulldoze, Earthquake, Fissure, and Magnitude. Earth Power will have three (3) less Base Attack Power. Dig and Dive can strike a Levitating Pokemon if their user is over Size Class 4, has Levitate, is 3.5m or larger, or is a Flying-type. Otherwise Dig and Dive will miss. Ground moves can still hit.

<Ivysaur> [Ozzy] (M)
Nature: Naughty (+ Attack, - Sp.Def)

Type:

Grass: Grass STAB; immunity to Leech Seed, Worry Seed, and all "Powder" based attacks (Poisonpowder, Powder, Rage Powder, Sleep Powder, Spore, Stun Spore). Unable to have Petal Dance disrupted by oncoming damage. Ignores Arena restrictions on Grass attacks requiring an external grass source. Bloom Command.

Bloom Command: For the next six (6) actions, this Pokemon's "Grass," "Powder," and "Seed" status-moves will have fifteen (15) added points to their Base Accuracy (e.g. Grasswhistle goes from 55 Base Acc to 70 Base Acc). Type Exclusive commands can only be used by Pokemon that are naturally that type, and are still available if the Pokemon changes type.

Command Type: Type Exclusive | Accuracy: -- | Energy Cost: 5 | Priority: 0 | CT: None

Poison: Poison STAB; immunity to Poison/Toxic status. Absorb Toxic Spikes on switch-in unless Flying-typed or using the ability Levitate. -- Accuracy when using Toxic, Poison Gas, or Poison Powder, hitting even during Dig, Fly, etc. Ignore Fog's accuracy reduction. Store Command.

Store Command: For the next six (6) actions, this Pokemon's moves will have their poison / toxic effect chance double. Type Exclusive commands can only be used by Pokemon that are naturally that type, and are still available if the Pokemon changes type.

Command Type: Type Exclusive | Accuracy: -- | Energy Cost: 5 | Priority: 0 | CT: None

About: Ozzy was , in fact, Matezoide's first pokemon, being kidnapped by a mysterious group, Matezoide and Ozzy met again on a circus that used stolen pokemon for the shows. After defeating the thieves, Ozzy chose to go with Matezoide again after all this time. He bears no grudge against Steve for ''taking his place''.

Abilites:

Overgrow (Passive):

When this Pokemon’s HP is lower than 33% (flat), the Base Attack Power of any grass attack is increased by two (2). (eg Giga Drain goes from 8 to 10, Solarbeam from 12 to 14)

Chlorophyll (HIDDEN ABILITY UNLOCKED Passive):

During bright sunlight, this Pokemon’s cells absorb more solar energy, doubling (x2) their speed.

Thick Fat (Mega Evolution only, Passive):

This Pokemon has a great deal of extra fat or muscle that increases its resistance to extreme heat or extreme cold, reducing the type effectiveness of Fire- and Ice-typed attacks to the next level of resistance.

Did anyone really pick this Grass team being so effective? I know I didn't. Mate tries to maybe capitalise on this by bringing one of EM's own weapons against him. I'm also exctied to see if Hydreigon can actually perform in a real match, as mine has sat on the sidelines for far too long.

Some unsurprisingly clever plays on both sides sees Hydreigon not exactly get ruined like I thought it would. Mate now has a chance to order with Dazzling Gleam off the table too, but it needs to be first against the Grass leader which usually ends up badly for the challenger.

Now that was lucky.

Fire Blast -> Flamethrower -> Fire blast

If successful P/E action, Roost that action the first time and Protect the second, pushing back both times
If damaging Poison type move in a combination AND you are poisoned, use Protect that action and pushback

I was about to say I told you so here but I honestly think this one comes down less to EM ordering well and is much more the fault of that lazy set of orders from Mate. Hydreigon is showing its shortcomings, but of course it is far from over.

Always thought it was pretty bullshit how Water Sport disappeared if the user left, it took 3 gens for them to fix this.

Switch to Snorlax with Expert Belt

Focus Blast -> Fire Blast -> Focus Blast

If Ferrothorn has Double Team clones up and isn't under the effect of Magnet Rise, Earthquake that action and push back
If Protective/Evasive move, Reflect that action the first time and Chill the second, pushing back both times.

Elevator Music takes a bit of time to set up this round, falling behind in the damage stakes slightly but with those all important Stealth Rocks set up. Ferrothorn is also proving a tough nut to crack for an itemless Snorlax.

Mate is at least able to avoid another layer of entry hazards reaching the field but Snorlax is losing the damage race pretty badly, even if hitting hard isn't exactly what Ferrothorn is known for. Also I just realised that Emma gave it a Mental Herb despite a combined total of zero taunts on the challengers side of the field.

Who needs EN?

Fire Blast -> Focus Blast -> Fire Blast

If P/E move, Chill that action and push back, but not consecutively
If Spikes and Ferrothorn is not behind a Substitute, use Lovely Kiss that action
If Ferrothorn is behind a Substitute when you are to use Lovely Kiss, use Flamethrower

I think I've seen this one before. Just let them tire themselves out doing nothing of actual use, this time with an added side of a fuckton of entry hazzards. Don't worry Mate, the feeling you have of this one slipping away is something I can empathise with. That said all is not lost and you might be able to pull it out better than I ever could. Only time will tell.

Not going to lie, I really thought Snorlax looked to be a better pick that its turned out to be. That strong neutral STAB hasn't really achieved much so Mate just blew it up. Solid.
