[OVERVIEW]

Due to its combination of Contrary and Leaf Storm, Lurantis immediately jumps out as an interesting choice for a SM NU team. Unfortunately, its Speed and movepool simply don't add up to make it an offensive threat. That being said, Lurantis does carve a niche for itself as a Defogger with reliable recovery that can take on most Stealth Rock users in the tier by itself. Being one of a few Defoggers that isn't weak to Stealth Rock is already huge, but coupled with Aromatherapy, Lurantis can also function as a team's cleric. While Lurantis is great at using Defog against the likes of Rhydon, Steelix, and Seismitoad, it does struggle against the most common Spikes setter, Garbodor, and one of the tier's best Defiant users in Braviary.

Moves
========

Leaf Storm's high Base Power helps mitigate Lurantis's uninvested Special Attack stat, and it only gets stronger after using it thanks to Contrary. Defog is the most useful support move Lurantis has access to, clearing the field of all entry hazards and the opponent's Light Screen, Reflect, and Aurora Veil. Synthesis gives Lurantis the freedom to switch into common Stealth Rock setters such as Steelix, Rhydon, and Seismitoad without having to worry about its HP. Hidden Power Ice gives Lurantis the best neutral coverage and hits Grass-, Flying-, and Dragon-types such as Rotom-C, Sceptile, Braviary, and Druddigon for super effective damage. Hidden Power Fire and Ground are options that give Lurantis the ability to hit other common switch-ins, such as Garbodor, Pawniard, and Ferroseed, at the cost of some neutral coverage. Aromatherapy gives Lurantis even more ability to support its teammates and allows it to fend off status from the likes of Toxic Steelix and Glare Druddigon. Toxic is a solid option for getting damage off on common switch-ins such as Braviary, Incineroar, and any Grass-type not named Vileplume. Giga Drain is a much weaker STAB move that doesn't take advantage of Contrary, but it can be used alongside Leaf Storm if you find that 8 PP simply isn't enough for Lurantis to do its job of beating common Stealth Rock setters.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread lets Lurantis avoid 2HKOs from Steelix's Heavy Slam, Rhydon's Stone Edge, and both Choice Specs Sceptile and Choice Specs Rotom-C's Hidden Power. Contrary makes Leaf Storm a reliable and strong STAB move. Lurantis holds Leftovers for some passive recovery.

Usage Tips
========

Lurantis does not function well as an offensive Pokemon; no matter how many Special Attack boosts it accrues, it will not sweep. Lurantis should instead strictly be used as a defensive Defogger. This set is tailored to switching into the most common Stealth Rock setters, including Steelix, Rhydon, and Seismitoad. Hidden Power Ice is used to pick off weakened Grass-type Pokemon such as Vileplume, Rotom-C, and Sceptile; however, Lurantis should not be risking its HP to attack these Pokemon unless they are Choice-locked into a favorable move or Lurantis is no longer needed. While Lurantis has the ability to check certain Grass-types, including Whimsicott and Rotom-C, it needs to be wary of Switcheroo and Trick, respectively. Its ability to check Grass-type Pokemon should be treated as a bonus, not its main role.

Team Options
========

Grounded Poison-types such as Garbodor, Drapion, and Skuntank absorb the Toxic Spikes that Lurantis struggles with. Water-types appreciate Lurantis's ability to check offensive Grass-types, including Sceptile and Rotom-C. Vaporeon can run Heal Bell to free up a moveslot for Hidden Power on Lurantis, and Qwilfish can absorb Toxic Spikes. Fire-type Pokemon such as Delphox and Houndoom appreciate Lurantis's ability to clear the field of Stealth Rock with Defog and switch into weak Scalds from the likes of Slowbro. These Fire-types can also switch into Fire- and Ice-type attacks aimed at Lurantis.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

While Lurantis's Attack stat is naturally higher than its Special Attack, Lurantis is too slow and lacks a quality movepool needed to pull off a physical set. Lurantis could make a great Substitute + Toxic user if its Speed stat weren't so low.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Poison-types**: Poison-type Pokemon such as Garbodor, Drapion, Vileplume, and Weezing hit Lurantis super effectively and are resistant to Leaf Storm. Garbodor, and to a lesser extent Drapion and Weezing, can set up Toxic Spikes against Lurantis as quickly as it can remove them.

**Flying-types**: Flying-type Pokemon such as Braviary, Golbat, and Scyther can switch into a Leaf Storm from Lurantis and threaten it out with their super effective STAB moves. Braviary is especially troublesome for Lurantis, as Defog gives it a +2 Attack boost.

**Setup Sweepers**: Due to Lurantis's average Special Attack and reliance on Leaf Storm, it is vulnerable to many of the tier's threatening setup sweepers, including Delphox, Charizard, Virizion, Vivillion, Scyther, Drapion, and Houndoom, most of which resist its attacks.

spoke with quziel on ps and he reccomended hp ground as a garbodor deterrant. im still not sure how i feel about all the hidden powers as theyre all pretty bad. hp ground lets lurantis do defog a little bit better as its best against the most common spiker. flying makes it so you can at least check virizion after a boost from storm. fire is best neutral coverage for all grasses if we count ferroseed, and it has the benefit of hitting rotom-c harder

really looking for thoughts on that last move slot and any additional team options / usage tips. i can also probably include more info on how garbodor shits on this thing, but will wait for the first check to do anything else.

Discussed this on discord, but make Hidden Power Ice a main slash, then put Ground and Fire in moves, and Flying to OO. Last section of C&C seems kinda vague, so fill in that section with some examples (ex: Ice Beam or Megahorn from Samurott, Sneasel's Icicle Crash, etc). Also change Garbodor's section to Poison-types in general and add in Vileplume and Weezing.

implemented, ran some calcs against shit like sneasel, samurott, etc and lurantis lives and ohkos back a lot more than i originally thought so i re worked c&c to more accurately reflect shit lurantis cant touch and is scared by

ok i must have ctrl-z'd or smth cuz i changed the poison section. ugh now i gotta do it again did im da bes

I personally think Aromatherapy is Lurantis main niche and since you're that slow you can't hit most switch ins like Garbodor, Fire-types and Flying-types before a boost anyway and then coverage wont do anything.

The rest is fine.

I mean if u wanna bring up Aurorus as a 'counter' for Lurantis then you can probably bring up Piloswine as well.

In your **Type Advantage** section, mention that Lurantis's miniscule coverage and over-reliance on Leaf Storm is what makes it very vulnerable to most Pokemon that resist Grass.

Again, not sure what makes Virizion so special over every other setup sweeper that makes fodder out of Lurantis, like Delphox, Houndoom, Scyther, Drapion, Vivillon, Charizard, etc. You might as well just lump Viriz into the **Type Advantage** section and separate the setup sweepers from the immediate attackers like Emboar and Vanilluxe.

thank you for this, you caught many silly mistakes that I now notice after re-reading the GP standards. the only things I didn't implement, because i reworded them, were in the overview. I left the comment about being a defogger not weak to rocks in because its a huge selling point for lurantis.

Lurantis does not function well as an offensive Pokemon; no matter how many Special Attack boosts it accrues, it will not sweep. Lurantis should instead strictly be used as a defensive Defogger. This set is tailored to switching into the most common Stealth Rock setters. (any examples?) Hidden Power Ice is used to pick off weakened Grass-type Pokemon such as Vileplume, Rotom-C, and Sceptile; however, Lurantis should not be risking its HP to attack these Pokemon unless they are Choice-locked into a favorable move or Lurantis is no longer needed. While Lurantis has the ability to check certain Grass-types, including Whimsicott and Rotom-C, it needs to be wary of Switcheroo and Trick, respectively. Its ability to check Grass-type Pokemon should be treated as a bonus, not its main role.

Team Options
========

Other Options
=============

While Lurantis's Attack stat is naturally higher than its Special Attack, it Lurantis is too slow and lacks a quality movepool needed to pull off a physical set. Lurantis could make a great Substitute + Toxic user if its Speed stat weren't so low.

Checks and Counters
===================
