Manectric @ Manectite
Ability: Lightning Rod
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power Ice
- Overheat / Flamethrower
Mega Manectric's set allows it to apply pressure to a large number of tier staples, including Togekiss, Suicune, and Azumarill, consistently forcing them out and grabbing momentum. This combined with Intimidate, which compensates for otherwise lacking durability, lets it solidify a place on several offensive teams as one of the best specially offensive pivots available. Manectric is also fully capable of pairing well with other offensive pivots, including Infernape and Scizor, due to the great offensive synergy it has with them by virtue of its typing and coverage. However, Mega Manectric's typing, while good offensively, leaves it vulnerable to some of the tier's several bulky Ground-types, such as Swampert and Hippowdon, with bulk that leaves it fairly reliant on Intimidate to stomach most hits. Its fragility also prevents it from combating the tier's several Choice Scarf users that can outrun and threaten it like Infernape, Latias, and Hydreigon.
Here's a tournament replay that perfectly showcases Mega Manectric's ability to force switches and act as a big nuisance to the opponent:
