hi. The purpose of this thread is for us to create a team Pokemon by Pokemon as a community via nominating and voting on Pokemon in this thread. Halfway through the build & once the team is finished (every 3 Pokemon), we'll have a session in the OU Workshop room on PS! where we'll discuss the Pokemon chosen and decide whether or not what was voted on was the most optimal. This gets rid of the biggest problem with the original thread: people potentially voting for bad stuff. The goal here is to not only build a team as a community, but to discuss the team, test the team, and improve the team and our teambuilding skills overall.

Rules:
  • When submitting a Pokemon, be sure to include a set and explanation. The explanation should not only explain why you chose that Pokemon, but also why that Pokemon is the most optimal choice for the team. Be sure to also explain why you chose the set you chose specifically.
  • During the voting period, you're only allowed to vote for 1 Pokemon! Simply say the name of that Pokemon in bold. Please say the name of the Pokemon / set as it appears on the list. This makes it 10x easier for us to tally the votes n_n
  • Don't submit totally unviable / bad stuff !_!
Information:
  • The submission period for each Pokemon will go from a Sunday night (EST) to that upcoming Friday night (EST). Voting period will be during the weekend.
  • There will be a roughly week long break between the first three Pokemon and the last three to host the OU Workshop (live) portion of this project.
  • Once we have the "final" team (immediately after the second live portion), we'll test the team a bit to totally finalize it.

Aerodactyl @ Aerodactylite
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace
- Roost
- Aqua Tail

Mega Aerodactyl is a really nice antimeta mon right now with its ridiculous speed and great movepool. I wanna suggest this mon because I think its heavily underrated in OU and gets a bunch of hate for being bad when its not. also offense is the only playstyle so lets use an offensive mon :toast:

Gengar @ Black Sludge
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Taunt
- Hex
- Will-O-Wisp
- Substitute

this set may look fairly odd as you're probably used to see something along the lines of taunt + 3 attacks lo gengar, however, this aims to really trouble bulkier playstyles such as semi-stall and balance, and it does a great job doing so. it is capable of crippling common switch-ins such as mega scizor, spdef skarmory, etc., whilst preventing recovery / status / set-up / hazards through taunt. obviously requires a bit of team support, but when built with correctly it can be extremely fun; fitting on balance and subsets of it as well.

Scolipede @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
IVs: 29 HP
Adamant Nature
- Megahorn
- Aqua Tail
- Poison Jab
- Swords Dance

Swords Dance Scolipede is an incredibly threatening sweeper in the current meta, thanks to the insane coverage, especially on this set, which is resisted by no common Pokemon in OU. Thanks to Speed Boost, Scolipede can make for an excellent late-game sweeper after its checks and counters have been sufficently weakened, as is the case with all set-up sweepers.

Terrakion @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
- Swords Dance
- Rock Polish

I think Double Dance Terrakion would be an interesting start to this team. It is an oft overlooked threat that has fallen to BL-level usage. However, between a great dual STAB combo and access to two great boosting moves, it can be effective against a large part of the metagame. Depending on the matchup, Terrakion can either function as a powerful wallbreaker or great cleaner. When doing a CCAT having a threat that can be flexible against a lot of archetypes can be invaluable.

Lucario @ Life Orb
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Extreme Speed
- Ice Punch

Lucario is a pretty cool pokemon that doesn't get a lot of love in OU these days, but Swords Dance + Extreme Speed gives it some pretty powerful late game cleaning capabilities. It has a very simple role which makes a great starting point for an offensive team; wallbreakers and/or stallbreakers are the basic support it requires. I've chosen Ice Punch as the coverage move of choice because it hits the incredibly popular ground types in Garchomp and Landorus-T. I feel that Crunch for Psychic types isn't as necessary in a metagame with tons of viable dark types to pair it with (hint hint), and Iron Tail is rather unreliable and hits fewer targets.

SANIC (Chesnaught) @ Salac Berry
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 12 HP / 244 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Belly Drum
- Substitute
- Seed Bomb
- Drain Punch

Sub Salac Belly Drum Chesnaught is in my opinion one of the most underated sweepers/janitors in OU. Its access to STAB Drain Punch and its incredible bulk makes it one of the best users of Belly Drum. All you need to do to sweep with it is send it in on something it walls, sub, then BD. It will have +6 Attack and +1 Speed before you know it. Obviously it will need support to deal with priority users or anything with 373+ Speed. Other than that, it's a pretty good Pokemon.

Wobbuffet @ Leftovers
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 28 HP / 220 Def / 224 SpD / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Encore
- Tickle
- Counter
- Mirror Coat

Speedy Wobbuffet is a Pokemon that has been mostly sidelined in favor of its bulkier brother. However, that is not to say that it is bad. Wobbuffet's ability to put virtually every defensive Pokemon into OHKO range for Pursuit (hint: use Pursuit alongside this) with the combination of Encore and Tickle is amazing utility for an offensive team to have because it lessens the pressure put onto it to not be walled by Pokemon X, Y and Z.

I think that Volcarona deserves a shot, is a very antimeta pokemon right now, hitting almost all the OU tier for supper-effective damage, and even a +1 Fire Blast can severaly damage (even OHKO If its frail) a neutral target, and if gets to +2 is a nightmare to deal with that boosted 135 SpA and 100 Spe, outspeeding even Jolly Exca under sand.

Volcarona @ Lum Berry
Ability: Flame Body
EVs: 252 SpA / 184 Spe / 72 HP
Timid Nature
- Quiver Dance
- Fire Blast
- Giga Drain
- Bug Buzz

HP Ground can be used to avoid getting walled by Heatran and Zard-X, but overall Bug Buzz is more appreciated.

Diancie-Mega @ Diancite
Ability: Magic Bounce
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Moonblast
- Diamond Storm
- Earth Power/Protect
- Hidden Power [Fire]/Protect

I think that mega Diancie is an extremely potent offensive threat that many teams generally lack switch ins to, and it doesn't get as much usage as it deserves. Fairy/Rock coverage on its own hits the entire S rank and everything in the A+ rank except a few steel types. This flaw can be easily remedied by giving diancie either earth power or hp fire as coverage, and it is generally an antimeta threat that can really hurt teams a lot. A bunch of dominant pokemon like zardx, mega sab, and others all fold over to mega diancie 1v1, and it is a really good mon vs offense with good capabilities vs slower teams since it is easier to find opportunities to mega evolve the thing and it can break through a bunch of popular cores in the metagame with relative ease.

Altaria @ Altarianite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Return
- Earthquake
- Heal Bell

Mega Altaria is an amazing Pokemon in OU because of its good natural bulk and typing, plus Pixilate. However, even with all these good tools at its hand, it mostly succeeds at bulkier builds because its Dragon Dance set is almost completely overshadowed by Mega Charizard X. However, Mega Altaria provides more chances to switch-in and set-up Dragon Dance against Pokemon like Keldeo and Latios thanks to its bulk, something that Mega Charizard X can't afford.

Sharpedo @ Sharpedonite
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Crunch
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Substitute

Sharpedo is a fun late game sweeper that mostly finds itself outclassed by mega gyarados. What it lacks in Dragon Dance, Mold Breaker, and bulk, it makes up for with a better speed tier, pre-mega speed boost, and most importantly, strong jaw boosted crunch.

This set replaces the typical waterfall/hydro pump with earthquake, since it generally provides better coverage and crunch is a significantly better neutral stab. It retains an OHKO on diancie and excadrill along with the 2hko on lopunny and ttar (anything besides max/max at least). EQ helps secure further KOs on Bulky ZardX, heatran, raikou, lucario, and kinda with manectric; it is also a slightly stronger option for things that resist both of his STABs, like azumarill or keldeo. It does however drop him to a 3hko on hippowdon, along with weakening his ability to fight weavile, mamoswine, and magnet rise klefki.

Substitute over protect because protect is for nerds. This hurts sharpedo's ability to set up on faster mons, which can matter quite a bit because his pre-mega speed is pretty ass. In return, it gives you better setup against more passive support mons, and helps to take advantage of how people may seek a free switch on protect, or simply to resist crunch or whatever. Behind a sub, you can get away with a lot more 2hkos than normal, which is nice because sharpedo does like 50% to everything. It also provides a buffer to priority and suicide-status from thundurus or slowbro. This is admittedly one of those moves that is a lot weaker when on the center of a month-long forum-wide build session, though.

Garchomp @ Life Orb
Ability: Rough Skin
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Swords Dance
- Stone Edge

Life orb garchomp is probably one of the more underated garchomp sets currently taking full advantage of garchomps fantastic attack and strong power'd stab moves. Typically this set is to be used as a full out wallbreaker that takes advantage of pokemon that are naturally slower then it but faster then tank chomp allowing chomp to grab ohkos on pokemon such as mega gardevoir which before it megas is naturally faster then tank chomp. Edge Quake allows you to hit everything for neutral damage while also hitting togekiss which is somthing that typically walls garchomp otherwise. Dragon claw is your secondary stab attack which hits everything bar fairy and steel types for solid damage, its also used over outrage because you don't want to be locked into it when a fairy comes out. With max attack+adamant garchomp is capable of destroying some of its normal switch ins such as clefable (2hko against both unaware and mg). The best part about this set is that you ohko ferrothorn at +2 atk which is really cool. Even uninvested chomp has some nice bulk which also helps with grabbing a sd.

Medicham @ Medichamite
Ability: Pure Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- High Jump Kick
- Bullet Punch / Ice Punch
- Zen Headbutt

I chose Mega Medicham because, in my opinion, Medicham is one of the more underrated OU Pokemon because of other Mega Evolutions being more popular than it and therefore shadowing over its uses, which might make it seem less viable. Its Attack when Mega Evolved is only base 100, which generally doesn't cut it for OU. However, it has Pure Power, which means that its in-battle Attack stat reaches up to 656 Attack when Adamant; however, Jolly is more common, which means it reaches up to 598 in-battle Attack; this means that it has the highest in-battle Attack stat in OU. I chose this set for many reasons. Firstly, Fake Out allows Medicham to hit Pokemon while it Mega Evolves so that it gets its base Speed increased without being attacked and possibly KOed during said turn, and it means that Mega Medicham can deal some good damage to frailer Pokemon like Alakazam (takes away one-half of regular Alakazam's HP, one-third of Mega) and Hoopa-U (takes away up to one-third of Hoopa-U's HP). Secondly, High Jump Kick allows Mega Medicham to OHKO a plethora of Pokemon in OU like Kyurem-B, Tyranitar (and Mega Tyranitar), Bisharp, Chansey, and Weavile and hitting a ton of other Pokemon that aren't immune to it for good damage (it even OHKOes Mega Alakazam!). Bullet Punch lets Mega Medicham finish off a ton of Pokemon that its teammates couldn't, and it lets Mega Medicham revenge kill Mega Diancie. However, a lot of people might use Ice Punch over Bullet Punch for the wide amount of coverage it provides against various foes such as Mega Altaria, but Bullet Punch might even still be better in some situations like versus a +1 Speed Mega Altaria, which can outspeed and KO Mega Medicham (but idk why you'd stay in vs Mega Altaria lol,,,); Bullet Punch can also KO weakened Mega Gardevoir (around 70% health). Zen Headbutt allows Mega Medicham to OHKO Mega Lopunny, Breloom (unless Sash), Scarf Keldeo (bc not as much power in SpA so Hydro Pump 2HKOes at max health), offensive Mega Venusaur, Gengar on the switch, and Conkeldurr. The EV spread and nature allows Medicham to be faster while still maintaining the power to KO a ton of foes. Finally, the ability is obvious as to why it's used. :>

Scizor @ Scizorite
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Superpower
- Swords Dance

I think we should use Offensive Mega Scizor because Bulky SD is the usual mainstay, when Offensive SD is actually really good. It fits easily onto Offensive teams and really fun to build around so yeah.

talonflame @ leftovers | gale wings
248 hp | 252 atk | 8 spe
brave bird | taunt | will-o-wisp | roost

really don't care about pictures because either way it's utility tflame except with max attack since it takes most advantage against offense while still putting pressure on balance

ez to build around considering how good tflame has been as of lately

Blastoise @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Rain Dish
EVs: 236 HP / 252 SpA / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam / Aura Sphere

Here's a very underrated mega evolution, Blastoise. It's strong and pretty bulky, two essential combinations to consider when building teams in oras. It's easy to throw Blastoise in and out because of the matchup problems it creates; with proper support it can rip defensive and balanced teams apart since it beats so many common walls and nothing wants to really switch into it because of its decent coverage options. It's also a very solid spinner that beats every hazard setter in ou easily. Blastoise should be a pretty refreshing option to cap off this team.

Maritime Disasters (Ampharos) @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
EVs: 20 HP / 252 SpA / 236 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 1 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Dragon Pulse
- Agility
- Focus Blast

Pretty unorthodox Mega that cleans up most offensive teams after the usual bulky grounds are taken care of. This bastard is pretty slow but with the EV spread it outspeeds Mega Manectric and Mega Lopunny after an Agility, which is a pretty easy boost to get considering how many common offensive pokemon it can set up on (pretty much every electric, Talonflame, Thundurus, Heatran, fucking Zard-Y). Pretty neat in that it resists a lot of priority (Talonflame, Pinsir, Scizor, Azumarill) and doesn't really care about bulky waters which stymie a lot of other cleaners. It also can't get t-waved by Thundurus which is cute.

Consumed by Darkness...
THIS IS NOT A MEGA BANETTE

50 Percent (Zygarde) @ Leftovers
Ability: Aura Break
EVs: 200 HP / 236 SpD / 72 Spe
Careful Nature
- Substitute
- Coil
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail

I chose Zygarde, because I feel that it's one of the most underrated Pokemon in OU that deserves to be noticed more; I don't find using the most common Pokemon in OU is that interesting, so here is something fresh. Zygarde has decent bulk and a 100 Attack; it doesn't have the best stats ever, but it gets great boosting moves such as Coil and Dragon Dance making it capable of a sweep. This would have to be possible with a proper support, and then Zygarde can tear apart Balance, and Semi-Stall teams much easier.

Lucario is a pretty cool pokemon that doesn't get a lot of love in OU these days
That's because my Scarf Cobalion outclasses it

Dirty Dancing (Landorus-Therian) @ Earth Plate
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 56 HP / 220 Atk / 232 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Polish
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

The most underrated Lando-T set imo, and it's hard to see why. Double Dance Lando-T sets up on surprising amount of mons, notably fatter mons. Although it is difficult to get off both RP and SD, you can usually pull off a sweep once you have both up, assuming Lando's checks/counters have been weakened. Prioritize Rock Polish against more offensive teams to outspeed and dent/KO and Swords Dance against bulkier teams so Lando can wallbreak easier. The EVs let it outspeed Sand Rush Adamant Excadrill with RP and allow it to survive 2 LO Iron Heads.

Abomasnow-Mega @ Abomasite
Ability: Soundproof
EVs: 120 HP / 136 Atk / 252 SpA
Quiet Nature
- Giga Drain
- Blizzard
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake

0 Speed IVs if going for trick room.

OK so this set is obviously not the best thing in OU, but if we're building a team as a community wouldn't it be better to build around something a little bit different? This set is pretty cool, getting the guaranteed OHKO on Heatran with EQ and being pretty damn fat when it needs to. It's got Ice Shard which is getting better and better as Garchomp becomes more and more spammable and especially in the current suspect, stall is dead so it's got no problems there. It can work in trick room and can work (admittedly worse) outside.

i'm just gonna end this early since it's been up a day early :p. note: i got rid of gamer boy's wobbuffet because of wob possibly getting banned in the future. from now until we know the results of the suspect, i request that you guys don't post shadow tag pokemon / mega sableye. it's just a precautionary measure. also, i got rid of the few things that are gimmicky / not optimal to build around. that doesn't mean these are bad noms by any means, but for this project we don't want to build around something too wonky (even tho creative / underused sets are encouraged!).

anyways here are your options to vote on:
  • mega aerodactyl
  • stallbreaker gengar
  • offensive SD scolipede
  • double dance terrakion
  • lucario
  • volcarona
  • mega diancie
  • DD mega altaria
  • mega sharpedo
  • life orb SD garchomp
  • mega medicham
  • offensive SD mega scizor
  • utility talonflame
  • mega blastoise
  • mega ampharos
  • zygarde
  • double dance landorus-t
to vote, just post one of these options in bold! thanks to everyone that submitted pokemon n_n

edit: voting will be open till sometime on sunday
