Welcome to the latest edition of the Team Rater Competition! The tier this time around will be SM OU. For each round we'll post a team, and participants will have one week to complete a rate of said team. When the round is over, the participants who submitted the best rates will move onto the next round. If you are eliminated and want to receive feedback on your rate, the hosts will be more than happy to provide that upon request. Each round will last one week. Failure to rate the team within the one week time period will result in disqualification unless you're able to give us a valid reason. Please only sign up if you can commit to rating one team every week for the next month. If you're currently involved in or are looking to start rating OU teams, I highly encourage you to participate as this promises to be a great learning experience. Team for Round 1, gl to everyone.

Tangrowth @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 212 Def / 48 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Sleep Powder
- Giga Drain
- Knock Off
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Tangrowth is the main physical wall, being able to take most of the offensive sweepers such as Landorus-T, Zygarde, Excadrill, Garchomp and Mega Metagross, but also works as water and ground resistor. Having regenerator makes this Pokemon probably the best slot to this team, perhaps the best pivot in the current metagame, being one of the few Pokemon that can take most of electrics such as Tapu Koko and ground types pressuring them and forcing them out.

Magearna @ Assault Vest
Ability: Soul-Heart
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Modest Nature
- Fleur Cannon
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Aura Sphere

Magearna has a very nice synergy in the team, being able to support it pretty well. It checks many offensive special threats, such as Greninja in either the protean set or ash form, but also Tapu Koko, Tapu Lele, and Hoopa-U that can cause troubles to the team. A standard set with fairy and steel stab thats able to annoy defensive walls but also voltswitch working pretty well as slow volturn.

Landorus-Therian @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 236 Def / 24 SpD
Impish Nature
IVs: 30 Atk
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Earthquake
- U-turn

Defensive Lando-T helps me with other Landorus, e.g. DD Lando, SD, and with strong physical attackers such as scarf Excadrill, scarf Garchomp, Zard X, while doing well in preventing the opponent from gaining momentum with Volt switch. Rocks is mandatory to chip at the opponent, while U-Turn gives momentum. Landorus and Magearna do really well together as they cover each other's weaknesses. Max defensive investment on Landorus with Rocky helmet is used to chip down Metagross really fast, as it is really dangerous to the team.

Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Flamethrower
- Solar Beam
- Roost
- Focus Blast

Mega Charizard Y has a good synergy with Tyranitar being able to trap and annoy most of it checks, being a very strong wallbreaking core they deal with mode defensive teams on their own. With a very few Pokemon being able to switch on its moves thanks to its very strong coverage it is very hard to handle by many teams and playstyles in OU, and it also works pretty well as Pheromosa check, something that Tyranitar is not able to handle. With the big presence of Steel types in OU, it is a big threat to most of the teams.

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stone Edge
- Crunch
- Superpower
- Pursuit

Banded Tyranitar was chosen because it pairs very well with Zard Y. With Choice Band it has the ability to bring Chansey in to very uncomfortable positions when facing stall. It can also hit many other common walls very hard, e.g. Landorus, Bronzong, Ferrothorn, and Tapu Fini, to bring them in range for a sweep with Scizor. Tyranitar can also trap and get crucial damage on Heatrans, which Scizor can profit from. It also deters Tapu Lele from spamming psychic, because it fears to be trapped too. Max attack adamant to hit as hard as possible, and max speed to outspeed Venusaur and slow Rotoms.

Scizor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn

I added this last, because I needed a late game wincon which can outspeed and revenge most of the metagame. Other official team raters told me that non-mega Scizor fits into the team. With max speed investment, it can outspeed Greninja by one point, and can get an early kill against it. A fast U-turn provides momentum, and potentially gets Charizard and banded Tyranitar savely into the battle. It shouldn't really switch into any attacks until late game, when it sweeps, as it is very frail without HP investment. Its main duties are to get momentum while revenge and sweep.
