Rotom-C [GP 0/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Rotom-C is a very threatening Electric-type because it can hit Ground-types like Rhyperior, Mega Steelix, and Quagsire with its secondary STAB move, Leaf Storm. A Grass- / Electric-typing lets Rotom-C switch into defensive Water-type Pokemon, such as Milotic, Quagsire, and Slowbro, and threaten them with its STAB, respectively. Levitate provides it with a Ground immunity, helping it maintain momentum with Volt Switch by providing free switch ins and a Spikes immunity. Rotom-C, faces competition from other Electric-types like Rotom-H and Mega Ampharos, and even more competition from other Grass-types such as Shaymin and Roserade. While its above average Speed lets Rotom-C outspeed unboosted base 85s and below such as Gligar, Kommo-o, and Gardevoir. Base 86 Speed still leaves it slower than several of the tier's fastest threats, most notably Adamant Flygon. In a similar vein, Rotom-C's average Special Attack stat means it is forced to rely on Choice Specs to threaten bulky Pokemon. A limited move pool gives it very few options against Grass and Dragon-types, and reliance on Leaf Storm for Grass STAB makes it set up bait.

Moves
========

Volt Switch is the main appeal to use Rotom-C, allowing it to maintain momentum while threatening out Pokemon weak to its STAB moves. Thunderbolt is a stronger Electric STAB that doesn't force Rotom-C to switch out. Leaf Storm is Rotom-C's only Grass STAB, and allows it to hit Ground-types that try to block Volt Switch super effectively. It's also Rotom-C's strongest attack against neutral targets, although it has the nasty side effect of lowering Rotom-C's Special Attack stat. Trick allows Rotom-C to cripple walls it can't break itself, like Florges, Umbreon, Cresselia, or Snorlax. Hidden Power Flying hits other Grass-types, primarily Virizion and Chesnaught. Hidden Power Ice hits Grass-types, but also Dragon-types, like Dragalge, Flygon, or Kommo-o. Similarly, Hidden Power Fire can be used to hit Pokemon that can come in on both of Rotom-C's STAB moves, such as Escavalier and Mega Abomasnow. Will-O-Wisp can be used to dodge Sucker Punch from the likes of Honchkrow and burn physical attackers like Escavalier and Flygon. Toxic can cripple defensive walls that want to switch in on Rotom-C such as Cresselia to put them on a timer.

Set Details
========

Max Speed is used to outspeed max speed Kommo-o and tie with other non-Choice Scarf Rotom forms, while max Special Attack is used to do as much damage as possible. Choice Specs is the recommended item to maximize power, which Rotom-C is otherwise lacking. It also allows it to use Trick to cripple bulky special walls. Alternatively, Grassium Z can be used to avoid having to guess between locking into Volt Switch or Leaf Storm. It lures Ground-types that think Rotom-C is locked into an Electric-type attack and can then proceed to KO them with Bloom Doom. It also allows Rotom-C to use a strong Grass attack without dropping it's Special Attack and becoming setup bait.

Usage Tips
========

Early game, click Volt Switch to preserve momentum and take advantage of switches that Rotom-C forces with its typing. Click Leaf Storm if you think your opponent will switch in an Electric-type immunity to absorb Volt Switch. Late game, if Electric-resists are weakened, Rotom-C can clean up with Thunderbolt. If you have Grassium Z, be careful of using Bloom Doom. Bluff being Choice locked to lure in your opponent's Electric-type resist, and use it to eliminate a weakened Ground-type so that Rotom-C can use Volt Switch freely. Levitate is a great ability for Rotom-C, allowing it to safely switch into defensive Ground-types like Gligar, Mega Steelix, and Rhyperior and to avoid Spikes while pivoting around.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that don't like Water-types appreciate Rotom-C's ability to switch into Water-type attacks and threaten them. Rock-type Pokemon like Gigalith and Diancie make excellent partners because they can switch into strong Fire-type attackers like Moltres and Salazzle, in return Rotom-C can switch into Ground-type attacks because of its ability Levitate. Defensive Water-type Pokemon like Slowbro and Milotic can beat Fire-types that threaten Rotom-C, and Rotom-C can switch into electric attacks targeting them. Offensive Water-types such as Feraligatr and Cloyster also benefit from Rotom-C's ability to beat bulky waters and racking up damage on Water resists like Roserade and Kommo-o. Ice-type Pokemon like Mega Glalie, Mega Abomasnow, and Sneasel can beat Dragon- and Grass-types that wall Rotom-C and appreciate the opportunity they get to switch in safely via Volt Switch, since they are very frail. U-turn users like Flygon, Swellow, and Gligar can complete a VoltTurn core to help and keep momentum. Frail attackers such as Swellow, Bruxish, Machamp, and Sneasel like having a free switch in thanks to Volt Switch that they can use to continue to apply pressure.

Other Options

Choice Scarf can allow Rotom-C to revenge kill faster threats, but Rotom-C lacks a lot of power to revenge kill reliably and should focus on forcing switches with its strong STAB moves. Expert Belt can be used to bluff a Choice set if you have another Z Crystal user, but the loss of a powerful Bloom Doom is not worth it otherwise.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Grass-types**: Grass-types such as Shaymin and Roserade resist both of Rotom-C's STAB moves and don't mind being tricked a Choice Specs that much, they also have the bulk to live a super effective Hidden Power, and don't care about a burn.

**Dragon-types**: Goodra and Kommo-o resist both of Rotom-C's STAB moves and are bulky enough to switch into Leaf Storm, Flygon can set up on Rotom-C if it's locked into an Electric-type STAB move.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-C's counterpart, Rotom-H, resists both STAB moves from Rotom-C, and can threaten to OHKO Rotom-C with Overheat. Mega Ampharos can wall both of Rotom-C's STAB moves, however, before mega evolving Leaf Storm will do a lot.

**Ground-types** While they go down to Leaf Storm, they prevent Rotom-C from spamming volt switch and force it to use Leaf Storm.

**Specially Bulky Pokemon**: Because of Rotom-C's average Special Attack stat, very bulky Pokemon can switch into Rotom-C. Umbreon, Cresselia, and Registeel are good examples of bulky Pokemon that take almost nothing from anything Rotom-C might want to do to them. However, they are vulnerable to being Tricked a Choice Specs.

[OVERVIEW]
  • What ground types does it threaten with leaf storm?
  • Mega Ampharos as an electric type that competes with it.

  • Mention Registeel/Umbreon in trick mentions.

  • remove levitate mention, mention it in usage tips instead.
Usage Tips

  • @ the gligar mention, just change it to a vague ground-type reference since the specific mon isn't relevant here.
Team Options
========
  • I'd add some slower/stronger wallbreakers to the list of frail attackers instead of stuff like Swellow/Sneasel, like Pangoro or Machamp or something, since the mons listed aren't breaking stuff like Umbreon/Registeel/Florges that switch into rotom-c.

  • good.

  • Change the Rotom-Heat section to just Electric-types and mention Mega Ampharos also, with some sort of mention on how it doesn't resist your Grass STAB pre-mega.

QC 3/3

Although I'd definitely give this a good read over for grammatical/spelling/repetition stuff before moving into GP.

its probably worth leaving this analysis hanging until usum meta settles down since rotom-c now has access to defog and that'll most likely be its main set.
