[OVERVIEW]

+ Psychic Surge is
+ Excellent stats overall, huge attack and great speed tier
+ Huge movepool (- No access to Hyper Voice before pokebank), making it able to run a lot of different sets, from physical variants to special or mixed ones. Access to Dragon Dance and Roost.
+ The new mega evolution speed dynamics enable Salamence to outspeed pokemon such as Garchomp, even in the turn that you mega evolve.
- Aerilate got nerfed, needs offensive natures and EVs more than in gen6.
- x4 weak to Ice, being exploited by offensive mons like Mamoswine or Ice Beam users such as p2.
- gen 7 brought new checks such as Celesteela or Tapu Koko, so it has less setup opportunities. For the same reason the postbank competition for a mega slot will be harder than it was in generation 6.
- teams are usually well prepared for it, being one of the most popular mega since XY, with no exception in this generation.

[SET]
name: Dragon Dance
move 1: Dragon Dance
move 2: Double-Edge / Return
move 3: Earthquake
move 4: Roost
item: Salamencite
ability: Intimidate > Aerilate
nature: Jolly / Adamant
evs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

-Dragon Dance is the main setup move, boosting its already great attack and speed to skyhigh levels. At +1 it outspeeds the entire unboosted meta, even many of the abitual scarf users (chomp, lele).
-Double-Edge for power (144 BP) is its devastating STAB, hitting very hard everything that doesn't resist it. You will usually need a dedicated physical wall to tank this. Return has less power (122 BP) but no recoil. Still hits hard, even if the Aerilate nerf has made this choice less desiderable.
-Earthquake completes coverage for steel (not on celesteela), eletric and rock-types
-Roost to heal up. Mitigates Ice weakness to x2.

Set Details
========

252/252 is usually the best option.
Differences between Jolly and Adamant. Garchomp speed tier with Adamant, max speed with Jolly. (Jolly max speed at +1 even outspeeds +2 Jolly Cloyster)
Adamant could be a good idea since Aerilate got nerfed, but it would leave Salamence slower than mons like Ninetales-A. Jolly is needed to outspeed base 110 and if you fear speed ties in mirror matches.

Usage Tips
========

-DD is often a win factor
-Don't always setup, do it when checks such as p2 or celesteela have been cleaned, or are in Double-Edge's KO range. Even without the DD boost Salamence still does good damage, so when predicting a switch out, a good idea could be to just attack and spread damage, without dragon dancing and being forced to switch out with a boost and nothing done.
-Thanks to the new mega evolution dynamics you don't need to rush the evolution with the fear of being outsped, taking the advantage of its normal form ability Intimidate

Team Options
========

Steel checks (Celesteela in particular, since Eq has no effect)
Aurora Veil Ninetales-A
Sandslash-A
Tapus in general
Aegislash
Araquanid / Golisopod
Mamoswine
Celesteela
Stealth Rock support to mitigate Aerilate nerf

[SET]
name: Mixed Attacker
move 1: Double-Edge
move 2: Fire Blast / Flamethrower
move 3: Draco Meteor
move 4: Earthquake / Roost / Substitute
item: Salamencite
ability: Intimidate > Aerilate
nature: Naive / Rash
EVss: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

-Double-Edge is still a powerful attack, even without offensive EVs, to break through special walls.
-Draco Meteor is the main attack dealing a lot of damage, and taking off guard physical walls.
-Fire Blast hits Steel-types and has good base power, Flamethrower for accuracy. Surprise Celesteela.
-Earthquake for Electric-types like Tapu Koko and for Marowak-A, Substitute is great answer to Celesteela's Leech Seed, to absorb statur or to scout for an Ice attack.

-Hyper Voice postbank

Set Details
========

-maximizing its Special Attack and Speed so it can have the best possible offensive presence.
-252/252
-nature should be either Naive or Rash, lowering Mega Salamence's average Special Defense to take the advantage of its fantastic Defense.

Usage Tips
========

Early-game attacker, has the role of opening up holes in the enemy team, to aid late game sweepers.

Team Options
========

Physical setup sweeper in general
Gyarados
Ninetales-A + Sandslash-A
Marowak-A
Golisopod
Tapu Koko, especially physical variants
Tapu Bulu

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Facade + Bulky EVs
SubToxic + Bulky EVs (Not sure if this should have an own set in gen7, or just be listed as an "Other Option")
Postbank Special Attacker
Hydro Pump on the mixed set to deal more damage to Fire-types and have chances to OHKO Marowak-A

Checks and Counters
===================

Mamoswine, P2, Celesteela, Tapu Koko, Scarf Lele, Ice attacks, Aegislash (needs +2 Eq most of the times), Mimikyu
