Clangorous Soul allows Kommo-o to become an explosive wallbreaker on hyper offense teams, using the extra boost afforded by Throat Spray in conjunction with its stellar coverage to deal powerful blows to the entire tier. Clanging Scales is chosen thanks to its high Base Power and few drawbacks while also being able to trigger Throat Spray in situations where the HP loss from Clangorous Soul is not ideal. Boomburst deals massive damage, managing to 2HKO even Normal-resistant foes such as Metagross and Iron Crown after a boost and Terastilization. Flamethrower allows Kommo-o to have an option against Pokemon that resist Boomburst like Tinkaton and Excadrill, hitting them for super effective damage. Drain Punch fills a similar role while also providing Kommo-o with some recovery and being a better option against Empoleon and Tyranitar. Drain Punch also gives Kommo-o an option to deal meaningful damage to opposing Soundproof Kommo-o, and the additional recovery can even allow it to use Clangorous Soul multiple times. However, it should be noted that due to Drain Punch sets running a Naive nature, this comes at the cost of some bulk. Tera Normal allows Kommo-o to take Boomburst's already high damage output and boost it to obscene levels, having a chance to OHKO even strong special walls like Tornadus-T and Toxapex.

Special Clangorous Soul Kommo-o fits exclusively on hyper offense teams as a threatening wallbreaker and sweeper. Entry hazard setters like Sandy Shocks and Mew make for exceptional teammates, as the chip damage that entry hazards provide negates any chance most Pokemon have of surviving a +2 Tera Normal Boomburst. Sticky Web support from Araquanid is also appreciated, as the speed control it provides allows Kommo-o to not worry about being outsped by Pokemon like Greninja and Choice Scarf Mienshao. Additionally, Grimmsnarl offers support in the form of dual screens, allowing Kommo-o to take riskier setup opportunities thanks to the damage reduction they provide. Other sweepers like Greninja, Scizor, and Ogerpon-C also appreciate Kommo-o's ability to blow holes in the opposing team as well as its ability to wear down shared checks like Slowking, Assault Vest Iron Crown, and opposing Kommo-o. In return, Greninja can chip down opposing Tornadus-T and Slowking into Boomburst's KO range while also offensively checking Iron Crown and Rhyperior. Scizor can assist in revenge killing threats like Mamoswine and Latios. Ogerpon-C can help to whittle down Steel-types like Tinkaton while also pressuring Rhyperior and Zapdos. Kommo-o also appreciates teammates that can help deal with opposing Kommo-o, such as Mimikyu and Thundurus-T, and they also provide assistance against Pokemon like Slowking and Toxapex that can give Kommo-o trouble.
