Proposal Separate Classic Gens (1-5) from Modern Tiering Policy

I'm adamantly against this proposal. The reason we have these tiering standards is to ensure we have a simple, logical and sensible ruleset and apparently we're supposed to throw those improvements? The idea that the playerbase will always be able to identify the correct solution and that this...

    OU RBY OU Viability Rankings

My rankings don't matter but I'll share them anyway My trashmon rankings are a mixed bag tbh- some of them I'm very confident in owing to practical experience, others are primarily theorymon. There are also some fringe pokemon that I should have a much more solid opinion on than I currently do tbh

    OU RBY OU Discussion Thread

The biggest thing to me is that most people are ranking Slowbro a couple spots below Jolteon. Unlike Jolteon, Slowbro's historically always been firmly in OU, so it would be wild to see it drop (mind you, I probably would've said the same about Lapras).

I think you're spot on in that playing Kad early (or at least before Zam) is terrible information management since you reveal most of your team, and that theoretically Kadabra is better off being played later on for that reason. Unfortunately I just don't think it works in practice, since the...

Fishing for para doesn't seem worth it with a 10% chance. You could use IB for the exact same odds, but for a freeze instead. Being more effective against Cloyster is definitely a valid niche though. On the other hand, it's almost useless otherwise, meaning it's an ultra-specific tech that's...

Proposal phoopes' Original Ruleset for Your Gen One Needs (PORYGON): the (hopefully) final thread about RBY cart accuracy vs. modding

Not gonna lie, this does just seem to be another rby ruleset thread so I don't buy into the idea that it resolves much once and for all. If it can draw attention to the fight button issue and other non-contentious improvements (everything listed under quality of life) that's great in and of...

    Resource Simple Questions, Simple Answers

This might be less an ubers thing and more a community thing, but why is the term "stability" used the way it is? Every time I see it referenced in ubers discussions it seems like a bullshit buzzword that can mean whatever you want or nothing at all When applied to a tier its meaning is highly...

OU RBY OU Ladder / "Jank" Discussion Thread

Alright, time for an update on my trashmon experiments Kadabra is obviously just a broke man's Zam, so I think the question around Kadabra's viability revolves less about how it performs, and more around whether or not you can run it alongside Zam without your team being shit. I think the...

    OU RBY OU Viability Rankings

It seems to me that the main movement in viability atm centres around the Psychic trio- maybe Egg/Star/Zam will be broken up? It's around the end of SPL that people usually look at updating these things anyway so we're probably due for some change. Anyway I really feel like Zam isn't keeping...

Wrath over Bro has some rationale to it, but with the set you're running, why not Golduck? Seems to me that would perform just as well without being a liability vs Psychics

So I disagree with the chip argument for 2 reasons. First is that Rest and Softboiled mean that the 3hko/2hko is relevant regardless of chip since it means the Normal types can feasibly stall against Golem. They might not be doing much to retaliate, but mostly surviving is very different from...

Rejected RBY Sleep Cause Should Be Cart Accurate (and other gens should consider it too)

Hello, long time member of the anti-freeze clause team here, been playing for well over a decade. I honestly don't see people opposing freeze clause who don't play rby. But I don't think those types of arguments should be used either way As for Stadium being the standard for competitive play...

I can agree with Zard being underrated by the playerbase in general, but that's only because the consensus is that it's unviable, whereas it's probably usable, but undeniably mediocre. Definitely not worthy of C tier Anti-leading Jynx honestly isn't that big of a selling point when Gengar does...

Rejected RBY Sleep Cause Should Be Cart Accurate (and other gens should consider it too)

Wholeheartedly support making sleep clause cart accurate. Not just for rby either, but across all gens. I think the issue in later gens of being forced to use sleep moves is a resolved by allowing an exemption for forced situations. If your options are so severely restricted that you're forced...

Resource RBY & Tradebacks Bug Report Thread

Yeah potentially. My rationale is that you can either ban Counter entirely, or you can allow it so long as players are aware of the risk of using Counter against paralysed Pokemon. There's still no issue with using Counter against unparalysed Pokemon as well When I put it like that, it does...

Rejected Tradebacks in Gen 8 metagames

Seconding that rby should not be used as precedent. I believe rby excluding tradebacks is 100% due to inertia- we've played with an archaic ruleset for so long that substantial change gets rejected even if it's "correct". I'd also discourage the idea of a game being "frozen", which is something...

Resource RBY & Tradebacks Bug Report Thread

Personally I've adjusted my ideal rby ruleset to allow for Counter. This is done by simply DQing players that trigger a desync via a known mechanism, which unfortunately is (afaik) far less compatible with how PS works than a Counter ban lol. Either way, I fully support improving cart accuracy...

OU RBY OU Ladder / "Jank" Discussion Thread

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with dismissing ladder results bc the ladder is generally not a high standard of play. Maybe if you're grinding to well over 1600 I'd respect it? But that elo isn't terribly impressive on more active ladders, which highlights how underplayed the rby ladder is Imo...

    Pending ELO range restriction setting

I personally am totally fine with the elo system as it is, so if there had been any tweaks to it that would've been dodging the problem imo. I also don't see this as undermining lesser played ladders, like I think this feature specifically benefits less active ladders where it's hard to avoid...
