[OVERVIEW]
* Iron Hands is a strong Pokemon with high HP and Defense stats that allow it to be an effective switch-in to most neutral attacks, and it also has access to a powerful tool in Fake Out. Iron Hands's great stats allow it to output consistent pressure as well as making it hard to remove. Iron Hands has strong matchups into both Urshifu formes and Tornadus, and its great stats allow it to beat most of the metagame one-on-one.
* Iron Hands appreciates speed control, so some good partners for it are Farigiraf and Tornadus. The combination of Armor Tail and Trick Room from Farigiraf and Fake Out from Iron Hands almost guarantees Trick Room is set up, which allows Iron Hands to dish out massive damage with Close Combat and Wild Charge. Tornadus is another good form of speed control for Iron Hands, since it can catch opponents off guard and synergizes better with faster offensive partners like the Urshifu formes and Ogerpon-H becauase their high Speed stats do not allow them to function in Trick Room effectively.
* Iron Hands is weak to Pokemon that help mitigate damage like Incineroar and Landorus-T, since they can cycle Intimidate. This is a huge detriment for Iron Hands, since it is a Pokemon that likes staying on the field and whittle down its foes. Lowering its Attack stat does not allow it to do its job nearly as well. Iron Hands also has to make a very difficult choice in its held item. Clear Amulet leaves it susceptible to special attackers like Landorus and Flutter Mane, while Assault Vest leaves it susceptible to the aforementioned Incineroar and Landorus-T.
[SET]
Bulky Attacker (Iron Hands) @ Clear Amulet
Level: 50
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Grass / Fire
EVs: 92 HP / 156 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Close Combat
- Wild Charge
- Heavy Slam
[Set Comments]
* Close Combat is picked to allow an OHKO on Incineroar, Wild Charge is used as the most consistent Electric-type STAB move, and finally Heavy Slam is used as coverage against Flutter Mane and as a strong neutral option.
* Clear Amulet prevents stat drops from Incineroar, allowing Iron Hands to play more offensively.
* The Invested bulk allows Iron Hands to survive a Tera Fairy Dazzling Gleam from Choice Specs Flutter Mane, as well as two Icicle Crashes from Chien-Pao. The rest of the EVs are invested into Attack.
* Tera Grass is used to resist attacks from Electric-resistant Ground- and Grass-type foes such as Landorus, Rillaboom, and Ogerpon-W while also providing a powder move immunity from Amoonguss. Tera Fire can also be used to resist Fairy- and Fire-type moves from Flutter Mane and Ogerpon-H; however, this keeps the weakness to Landorus as well as adding a Water-type weakness.
[SET]
Offensive Pivot (Iron Hands) @ Assault Vest
Level: 50
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 4 HP / 156 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD / 92 Spe
Tera Type: Grass
Adamant Nature
- Fake Out
- Drain Punch
- Wild Charge
- Heavy Slam
[SET COMMENTS]
* Drain Punch is used, as Assault Vest Iron Hands wants to keep staying on the field, Wild Charge is used as the most consistent Electric-Type STAB move, and finally Heavy Slam is used as coverage for Flutter Mane and as a strong neutral option.
* The 252 Special Defense EVs are used to minimize the damage taken from threatening special attacks like Earth Power from Landorus or Moonblast from Flutter Mane. The Speed EVs are used to outspeed the Urshifu formes and Adamant Ogerpon formes in Tailwind.
* Assault Vest helps Iron Hands's low Special bulk and allows it to take super effective hits better.
* Tera Grass is used to resist moves from Electric-resistant Ground- and Grass-type foes such as Landorus, Rillaboom, and Ogerpon-W while also providing a powder move immunity from Amoonguss. Tera Fire can also be used to resist Fairy- and Fire-type moves from Flutter Mane and Ogerpon-H; however, this keeps the weakness to Landorus as well as adding a Water-type weakness.
