[OVERVIEW]

Silvally-Ghost makes for a decent combination of Defog user and spinblocker in a metagame dominated by entry hazards. Its main niche lies in the ability to Parting Shot out of almost every counter, making it a support Defog user that still manages to keep up offensive momentum. However, Silvally-Ghost struggles from not excelling in one particular area compared to other Ghost-types and Defog users. It lacks the longevity of Oricorio-G, the strength of Jellicent, or the defensive typing of Silvally-Water. It also is extremely susceptible to chip damage due to how frequently it switches in and its complete lack of even passive recovery, making it an entry hazard remover without much staying power, and its typing just doesn't stick out in a metagame with far better Ghost-types and Fighting checks, meaning that it can only fit on very specific, momentum-based teams.

move 4: Toxic
item: Ghost Memory
ability: RKS System
nature: Timid

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Parting Shot all but eliminates the need for coverage moves, as Silvally-Ghost can pivot out of almost any matchup where Shadow Ball doesn't do the trick. This allows Silvally-Ghost to run Toxic to cripple Pokemon that are not easily chipped by Shadow Ball such as Assault Vest Lanturn. However, Thunderbolt can be run to hit Dodrio, which is immune to Shadow Ball and can attack before Parting Shot.

Set Details
========

Although Silvally-Ghost prefers to maximize its offensive stats, 40 EVs can be moved from Special Attack to HP to avoid the OHKO from Dodrio's Flyinium Z-boosted Brave Bird.

Usage Tips
========

Defog is Silvally-Ghost's main priority when it is on the field. Don't worry about giving free turns, as it will be able to freely use Parting Shot afterwards in most cases. Do not forget that Parting Shot can be blocked by Clear Body users such as Regirock. Due to Silvally-Ghost's extreme lack of longevity, do not feel the need to remove entry hazards every single time they are set up. Silvally-Ghost must choose when it switches in extremely carefully, as its time is more limited than most other Pokemon.

Team Options
========

Silvally-Ghost should almost never be seen without corresponding U-turn or Volt Switch users that can keep up momentum. Physical wallbreakers such as Stoutland and sweepers such as Lycanroc enjoy being switched in after Silvally-Ghost uses Parting Shot, especially since it can bait in specially bulky but physically frail Pokemon. Blanket checks such as Mudsdale and Clefairy are also advisable, as Silvally-Ghost invites in plenty of strong attackers including Kangaskhan and Aurorus. Silvally-Ghost is an effective spinblocker, so it can be run next to Qwilfish and Roselia and provide opportunities to switch in while keeping their Spikes up.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Thunder Wave can let Silvally-Ghost lure and neuter setup sweepers such as Lilligant if they attempt to exploit its lack of offensive pressure, although the lack of Toxic makes certain Pokemon such as Lanturn much more difficult to deal with. Explosion can allow Silvally-Ghost to prevent the use of Defog, which is useful because it can do little to stop Lurantis and Skuntank from removing entry hazards otherwise.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Silvally-Ghost fails to threaten Dark-types such as Skuntank, Alolan Raticate, and Alolan Persian. Pawniard, while rare, completely counters Silvally-Ghost and discourages the use of both Parting Shot and Defog due to Defiant. Although predicted switch-ins can be met with Parting Shot, all can easily tank a few Shadow Balls and either chip Silvally-Ghost with Pursuit or use their utility options like Defog and Toxic.

**Chip Damage**: Due to its lack of recovery, Silvally-Ghost can be very easily worn down by entry hazards, status, and various attacks from Pokemon it switches into such as Hitmonchan's Thunder Punch.

**Strong Attackers**: Although Silvally-Ghost has very few weaknesses, its bulk is fairly mediocre and it lacks recovery. An effective way to break it down is spamming strong, neutral attacks such as Scyther's Aerial Ace and Mesprit's Psychic.

**Normal-types**: Pokemon such as Stoutland, Zangoose, and Type: Null are immune to Shadow Ball and don't especially mind Toxic. Although Silvally-Ghost can simply Parting Shot away from them, it does provide Stoutland and Zangoose the chance to fire off some strong attacks and Type: Null to pivot out with its slower U-turn.

[OVERVIEW]

  • Fairly solid utility Defogger or spinblocker in a meta where both Defog and spinblocking support is pretty good
  • Has a unique blend of Speed, decent enough defensive typing, excellent utility options, and a solid neutral coverage move to do everything kind of well
  • Keeps up momentum with Parting Shot to allow it to work as a Defogger for more offensive teams and quickly get it out of matchups where Shadow Ball isn't a very useful attack
  • Sort of suffers from not really specializing in anything, its bulk and power and speed are all solid but unexceptional
  • Quite prone to chip damage because it has no recovery, is weak to Pursuit even if you can put them at -1, and is often switching into entry hazards and weak attacks
  • Doesn't really have the long-lasting presence of Oricorio-G or the more useful defensive typing of Silvally-Water, really only gets used when you need a blend of a few different roles
  • Also starting to see a bit of a decline as a spinblocker because of Froslass, which compresses spiking and spinblocking into one slot
  • General lack of resistances outside of Fighting
  • Can be a little bit awkward being a Defogger + spinblocker, since the latter is generally for teams that want to keep their hazards, which Defog invalidates
[SET]
name: Offensive Pivot
move 1: Shadow Ball
move 2: Parting Shot
move 3: Defog
move 4: Toxic

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Shadow Ball is your main attack worth using, solid damage output with STAB What are some targets?
  • Parting Shot lets you quickly get out of situations vs Pokemon like Stoutland where Shadow Ball isn't so useful As well as on forced switches
  • Defog lets you remove entry hazards for team support Does it beat any particular setters?
  • Toxic is best last move to cripple Pokemon like Hitmonchan, Lanturn, etc. that don't take much from Shadow Ball, Hitmonchan in particular since you want to outlast it to spinblock effectively. It can also cripple some setup sweepers such as?
  • Silvally-Ghost has several other offensive moves that can find use on specific teams if especially needed to combat a specific threat. Ice Beam lets it threaten Altaria and Alolan Exeggutor and Flamethrower targets varied threats like Sandslash-Alola and Pawniard among others. They are normally run over Toxic, although replacing Defog is an option if Silvally-Ghost is meant to act as a spinblocker on hazard-centric teams that don't want to remove their own Spikes or Sticky Web

Set Details
========

  • Maximum Special Attack investment helps Shadow Ball's damage output, 2HKOing Pokemon such as Aggron
  • Maximum Speed investment and a Timid nature gets the most out of Silvally-Ghost's solid Speed tier, beating out Pokemon like Oricorio-Sensu and Lilligant

Usage Tips
========

  • Silvally-Ghost tends to be played very aggressively as both a spinblocker and a hazard remover, needing to constantly be taking every opportunity to switch into spinners like Hitmonchan and Alolan Sandslash or remove entry hazards as early as possible
  • Because of this, Silvally-Ghost doesn't have much longevity, so make sure it's not necessary to keep something like Choice Scarf Primeape in check before allowing it to go down early
  • Speaking of Primeape, Silvally-Ghost has more leeway than most to use Defog when it comes in, but watch out if Defiant boosts could lead to a Stone Edge sweep
  • Spam Parting Shot at every available opportunity because it's a ridiculously good pivoting move, but again be aware of Primeape switching in since it can lead to some uncomfortable 50/50s as your Ghost-type pivots out of their boosted Fighting-type Regirock also stops the pivoting craze so predicting it and throwing off a Toxic helps keep momentum
  • Toxic isn't especially good to spam why not?, it should be used in very specific situations such as when you need to stay in vs Hitmonchan to prevent it from spinning or cripple a setup sweeper like Lilligant or Trick Room Alolan Exeggutor and the Parting Shot status debuffs won't cut it
  • Shadow Ball is a solid attack but most teams will have at least one sturdy resist or immunity, so be aggressive in Parting Shotting away from Pokemon like Skuntank and Stoutland so they aren't given a free opportunity to do whatever they want the next turn. Still, if you get it wrong, at least you can just Parting Shot the next turn

Team Options
========

  • Definitely going to want Dark-type checks like Gurdurr and Primeape to switch in once Silvally-Ghost Parting Shots away from Pokemon like Skuntank Primeape also fits on teams that want to keep their hazards up, which are the ones Silv fits on as well
  • Goes well with hazard weak Pokemon like Articuno which need the removal, or hazard setting Pokemon like Qwilfish which need the spinblocking Hazard weak mons and hazard setters should get their own bullets imo, outside of the hazard part they're quite different
  • Healing Wish support from Mesprit or Choice Scarf Lilligant can be situationally useful due to its lack of recovery
  • Many setup sweepers such as Lycanroc and Omastar can use the stat debuffs from Parting Shot as a setup opportunity
  • U-turn and Volt Switch users like Scyther and Lanturn naturally compliment Silvally-Ghost's ability to keep up momentum and propensity to fit on fairly offensive teams VoltTurn teams also love removal because hazards can rack up pretty quickly
  • Having a physically or specially defensive blanket Pokemon, something like Mudsdale or Clefairy which can take on a wide variety of attackers on one side of the offensive spectrum, is useful for a Pokemon that tends to invite in strong wallbreakers like Aurorus
  • Slow/frail wallbreakers who appreciate the pivoting support + offense drops. Especially Fighting-weak ones like Stout, Aggron, and Aurorus.
  • Pokemon that like Fighting-type checks overall

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • Swords Dance sets aren't terrible if it's meant more as a spinblocker than entry hazard remover, especially since you can lure in special walls like Lanturn. However, they're kinda weak, struggle with the preponderance of Sucker Punch, and Silvally-Dragon does it a lot better save the spinblocking
  • It has a very expansive offensive movepool which includes Thunderbolt for Swanna and Poliwrath, Iron Head to lure Clefairy, and U-turn as a risky option to hit Dark-types over Parting Shot. They're all just kind of pointless though, not as useful as anything else it has
  • Explosion is ok to stop slower Defog users from removing entry hazards since it's fairly easy for something like Lurantis or Skuntank to Defog on you otherwise but kills off Silvally itself so should only be used if it's no longer needed
  • Tailwind is an interesting team support option, but fairly gimmicky specifically, it runs out too fast
  • Thunder Wave
  • Roar, since it fits on hazard stack teams

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Silvally-Ghost fails to threaten Dark-types such as Skuntank, Raticate-Alola, and Persian-Alola. Although predictable switchins can be met with a Parting Shot, all can easily tank a few Shadow Balls and either chip Silvally-Ghost with Pursuit dunno about Pursuit specifically since Skunk is the only one there that runs it a great deal (Rat is kinda eh) or use their utility options like Defog and Toxic. Faticate can also set up

**Chip Damage**: Due to its lack of recovery, Silvally-Ghost can be very easily worn down by entry hazards, status, and weak attacks from Pokemon it switches into such as Hitmonchan.

**Strong Attackers**: Although Silvally-Ghost has very few weaknesses, its bulk is fairly mediocre and it lacks recovery. An effective way to break it down is spamming strong, neutrally damaging attacks such as Scyther's Aerial Ace and Stoutland's Return.

**Normal-types**: Pokemon such as Stoutland, Zangoose, and Type: Null are immune to Shadow Ball and don't especially mind Toxic either. Although Silvally-Ghost can simply Parting Shot away from them, it does provide Stoutland and Zangoose the chance to fire off some strong attacks and Type: Null to slow pivot out with U-turn or spread Toxic if it's using that instead.
edit: 1/3 bc qc now, make sure to implement the entirety of this

Blanket checks such as Mudsdale and Clefairy are also advisable, as Silvally-Ghost can provide opportunities for a wide range of physical and special wallbreakers to see how much damage they can do at -1.(Is this some expression? cuz IDK what seeing how much they do at -1 has to do with much) Silvally-Ghost is an effective spinblocker, but only pairs well with Qwilfish out of PU's viable Spikes users.(roselia exists now ig)

**Strong Attackers**: Although Silvally-Ghost has very few weaknesses, its bulk is fairly mediocre and it lacks recovery. An effective way to break it down is spamming strong, neutrally damaging attacks such as Scyther's Aerial Ace and Mesprit's Psychic.

**Normal-types**: Pokemon such as Stoutland, Zangoose, and Type: Null are immune to Shadow Ball and don't especially mind Toxic either. Although Silvally-Ghost can simply Parting Shot away from them, it does provide Stoutland and Zangoose the chance to fire off some strong attacks and Type: Null to slow pivot out with U-turn.

Moves
========

Parting Shot all but eliminates the need for coverage moves, as Silvally-Ghost can pivot out of almost any matchup where Shadow Ball doesn't do the trick. This allows Silvally-Ghost to run Toxic to cripple Pokemon such as Assault Vest Lanturn that are not easily chipped by Shadow Ball such as Assault Vest Lanturn. However, Thunderbolt can be run to hit Dodrio, which is immune to Shadow Ball and can attack before Parting Shot.

Set Details
========

Although Silvally-Ghost prefers to maximize its offensive stats, 40 EVs can be moved from Special Attack to HP to avoid the OHKO from Dodrio's Flyinium Z-boosted Brave Bird.

Usage Tips
========

Defog is Silvally-Ghost's main priority when it is on the field. Don't worry about giving up free turns, as, (comma) in most cases, it will be able to freely use Parting Shot afterwards in most cases. Do not forget that Parting Shot can be blocked by Clear Body users such as Regirock. Due to Silvally-Ghost's extreme lack of longevity, do not feel the need to remove entry hazards every single time they are set up. Silvally-Ghost must pick and choose when it switches in extremely carefully, as its time is more limited than most other Pokemon.

Team Options
========

Other Options
=============

Thunder Wave can let Silvally-Ghost lure and neuter setup sweepers such as Lilligant if they attempt to exploit its lack of offensive pressure, although the lack of Toxic makes certain Pokemon such as Lanturn much more difficult to deal with. Explosion can allow Silvally-Ghost to prevent the use of Defog as well as Rapid Spin, which is useful, (comma) as because it can do little to stop Lurantis and Skuntank from removing entry hazards otherwise.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Dark-types**: Silvally-Ghost fails to threaten Dark-types such as Skuntank, Alolan Raticate-Alola, and Alolan Persian-Alola. Pawniard, while rare, completely counters Silvally-Ghost and discourages the use of both Parting Shot and Defog due to Defiant. Although predictable switchins predicted switch-ins can be met with a Parting Shot, all can easily tank a few Shadow Balls and either chip Silvally-Ghost with Pursuit or use their utility options like Defog and Toxic.

**Chip Damage**: Due to its lack of recovery, Silvally-Ghost can be very easily worn down by entry hazards, status, and various attacks from Pokemon it switches into such as Hitmonchan's Thunder Punch.
