Long Rambling

So I was just minding my own business last night watching Futurama season 7 and eating ice cream out of the tub when my friend messaged me to tell me he was finally playing Radical Red after I recommended it to him way back in October. We were chatting for a bit, which led to him recommending a hack I hadnt played before to me:

Now I went and checked out Pokemon Reborn and looked up the features and whatnot and yknow what I really liked what I saw. Its sort of like the bastard child of Unbound and Radical Red. Its supposed to be pretty hard (my friend wasnt even able to make it past the first gym) and theres a ton of sidequests and whatnot so I was like lit. But the problem was that it wasnt a romhack, but rather a .exe game, and my laptop is currently rotting in the depths of hell after it shut down while I was writing my final project, so I was like nvm.

Except that earlier today I saw a reddit post for Pokemon Infinite Fusion that recommended the use of an app called Joiplay to play these types of games on android. Since Ive already played PIF i decided to try it out with Reborn. And it worked! And I was like this is the perfect time to unleash my thoughts upon the world because I crave attention.

Now onto the playthrough!

The Game

Pokemon Reborn is a game made using the RPGMaker, so its not technically a rom hack. It looks to be REALLY cool, with a lot of great QOL features, 18 gyms, a ramped up difficulty, and a shitton of sidequests. Lets be honest, based on my track record, I wont finish this game, but lets be woefully optimistic and enjoy it while it lasts.
One thing to note is that the game is supposed to be dark and edgy. I hate shoehorning dark and edgy themes into everything, so I will 100% make fun of it. You have been warned, Snyder Cut fans.

Episode 1: Brooklyn On Steroids

First impression: Hoo boy that keypad is horrendous. Lets increase transparency and button size a bit.

Anyways, we fiddle around with the controls a tad bit, and then start a new game.

No professor in this game feels very weird. But lets give it a chance.

I do think Reborn City has a nice ring to it. And yes, if they have 18 gym leaders they most definitely should push it.

Theres a bunch of character options. Its really nice to see sth other than the brunette boy/blond girl thats been peddled in rom hacks since forever, so props. I love my hair in this, wish it grew out like that irl.

Okay this genuinely made me really happy, its always nice to see representation in games. Maybe I was wrong about you, Pokemon: Snyder Cut Edition.

And here we start the game for real! The graphics do not look too great, but then again no game will ever look as good as Gaia so its fine

This new girl, Julia comes in. I like her more than Ame, to be honest.

Okay so plot happens, Ame leaves to look for whoever did this, and we are told to walk straight to the Grand Hall to get a starter pokemon.

Julia is also the first leader, the Electric leader.

We're free to move around now, so lets talk to some people!

Okay so we can choose from any gen 1 - 7 starter. Normally, I would go for Chimchar, but they have a chance of having their hidden abilities, so I go for froakie instead, and reset for a good IV spread.

This was literally my 3rd froakie. I am emotional.

I named him Babby because he is babby. Its that simple.

Episode 2: Urban Jungle

As Ame and Victoria leaves, we are ambushed by this new character.

We heal after the battle, and then Victoria and Ame find us

We get the pokedex, pokegear, and running shoes. Off to a great start.
Before we can move, however:

Anyways the police literally burn the culprit alive for information. I was having fun until this. Smh.

Anyways we get some pokeballs.

And a name for the evil team! Team Meteor!!

We leave, and this girl infront of the building complains that her snubbull wont listen to her

Level cap? See, this IS the bastard child of Radical Red!

V hard to make it out but the first number is 20. So we can get to level 20. We got this.

On that note
While the overworld is honestly pretty ugly, the battle interface is REALLY nice looking and I really like it v much

There are a bunch of other trainers around here. I fight them all and get Babby to level 10.

There are these dumb trainers torturing a zigzagoon, guess Ill stop them

He has a trubbish that goes down to 2 bubbles, but poisons me in the meanwhile
A quick trip to the centre fixes that...

Okay so there was a problem I didnt forsee. At lebel 10, Protean Froakie is OHKOing everything. This is good for battles. Bad for catching pokemon. I legit have to save, look for a pokemon, and just throw balls at it. When i run out I reset. This is so stupid.

This took me. 20 minutes. To catch. I hate. Life.

Timid Hustle Ratata with a 3IV in attack.

Anyways lets go
They have a Fomantis and Mudsbray. Fomantis goes down to Quick Attack + Tackle, and Mudbray is knocked out by a critical hit bubble.

Episode 3: Scavengers

We can finally access a new area of Reborn City, the Lower Peridot Ward. Theres a bunch of stuff we can do here. This update will be 0 plot so you have been warned.

Anyways theres this homeless man and if we give him 150 pokedollars he will stop blocking the alleyway and allow us to go in.

Inside, theres this Espurr, who does not react to us in the slightest. To get it, we need to have a new item, Pokesnax. It can be found via pickup.

So, obviously, the solution is to catch 4 meowths and farm. This is a total of 5 pickup pokemon.

After a while we finally get one via pickup.

We get this pretty good Espurr after like 5 mins of resetting.

We cant go into the gym yet so whatever

We picked up the Old Rod from this guy

Why cant you just be normal, game?

You can only fish up Grimer. We catch one for diversity.

Im pretty happy with that

This guy has 2 level 9 wurmples. We can easily do this battle with Babby, but I want Kitty to get some EXP so I refresh and go to grind on grimers for a bit. Its honestly kinda boring, nothing much to-

Roaming around the city, we keep seeing this Teddiursa. It always runs away from us.

Like we see it here again and it runs away again. I think we have to scare it off a certain number of times ig? Sth like that prolly idk

Anyways we finish off this battle after Espurr gets to level 9 and learns confusion. We grind in the garden a bit, and then Im leaving it off here.

Episode 4: Cant Think Of A Title Cuz Im Watching Fargo While Typing This

The first thing we do this episode is catch a Noibat. Not sure if Ill use it, but Ive always loved Noivern and I wanted the option for later.

Ok i was not gonna point this out but this game is uber stupid in this regard. There is 0 logical reason for there to be like street crime in the pokemon universe. In my experience, street gangs are always lashing out due to anger at their conditions, whether its having a shitty home life or mental problems. These issues should not exist in the pokemon universe. You have pokemon that generate electricity, pokemon that generate water, hell, you have Meowth who generates gold. You have universal healthcare, and if for some reason you cant access that, you have Chansey and Audino and whatever the fuck that can heal you. THERE IS 0 REASON TO BE IN A GANG IN THIS UNIVERSE. TEAM ROCKET GETS AWAY WITH IT CUZ ATLEAST THEYRE COOL ABOUT IT. THE OTHER TEAMS ARENT LIKE REALLY TERRORIZING PEOPLE THEYRE JUST DUMBASSES WHO WANT TO BE GOD. THATS VALID. BUT YOU CANNOT TELL ME THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE 14 YEAR OLD CHILDREN IN THE POKEMON UNIVERSE WHO JUST GO AROUND BEATING PEOPLE UP FOR NO REASON; IT DOESNT WORK LIKE THAT.

Edgy game is edgy. Also this is literally a non new yorkers view of nyc. V funny playing this in my bedroom in brooklyn.

Also this is a very cool sprite I really like it. So props on that, game.

I also find this scary looking tunnel thing and nope, not today.

There IS this fun sidequest here. You go into this appartment and its pitch black.

You need to turn up the brightness wayyy high to see the pokemon in the corner.

Considering THIS is my normal brightness level on my phone, I nearly blinded myself trying to get this sidequest done

I do love me a Joltik, tho.

Took me an hour of resetting to get a Compoundeyes Joltik with a good Sp.Atk IV. Nickname is from my old Blazed Glazed playthrough. Also, why tf are all my pokemon so slow I dont think I have a single speed IV above 15 on this team

Not to be a complaining bitch but also the overworld is so DARK in this game its so hard to SEEEEEEE

I have a love-hate opinion of this game. I admire all the content they had put in this game and the passion really shows, buuuuuut I'm not to say that this should be the ideal direction of Pokemon games. Still waiting on the final update, that being episode 19.

And yeah, Fern is an asshole of the biggest proportions and its kinda sad that his character only amounts to be an unsympathetic, whiny jerk. Also, his ace used to be Snivy on earlier builds, which fits him a lot more than Rowlet. Srs, just looking at this wholesome birb doesn't make me think of Fern in any way.

Lastly, Contrary Serperior is way stronger than the mediocre Decidueye. You got screwed, Fern, but that's what you deserve anyways.
