[SET]
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Double-Edge
move 3: Drain Punch / Close Combat
move 4: Darkest Lariat
item: Silk Scarf / Chople Berry
ability: Fluffy
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
This set works as a setup wallbreaker, utilizing Bewear's bulk to set up on relatively passive Pokemon like Gigalith and then KO physical walls such as Vileplume and Mantine. It can also act as a handy check to Fighting-types in a pinch if the user opts for Chople Berry. Darkest Lariat is specifically used for Ghost-types, which would otherwise wall Bewear, and allows it to hit Psychic-types such as Galarian Slowbro without taking recoil from Double-Edge. Drain Punch is preferred, as Double-Edge + Silk Scarf along with Darkest Lariat give Bewear all the wallbreaking coverage options it needs, and Drain Punch provides it with some longevity. A Jolly nature is used to outpace Jolly Golurk and Scrafty, but an Adamant nature can, for example, allow Bewear to more easily dispatch of physically defensive Galarian Slowbro.
Pokemon such as Barraskewda, Salazzle, and Choice Scarf Gardevoir, which can clean teams weakened by Bewear, work as teammates. Other Pokemon such as Galarian Slowbro and Golurk appreciate support from Bewear, as it can switch into Dark- and Ghost-type attacks for them. Bewear synergizes well with teammates such as Bronzong and Copperajah, which handle its weakness to Fairy- and Psychic-types, as well as Mantine, Milotic, and Dragalge, which handle its weakness to Fire-types due to Fluffy.
[SET]
name: Choice Band
move 1: Double-Edge
move 2: Close Combat
move 3: Darkest Lariat
move 4: Drain Punch
item: Choice Band
ability: Fluffy
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Choice Band allows for more immediate power, able to capitalize on Bewear's defensive utility to switch into Pokemon such as Golisopod and instantly fire off powerful attacks. However, it is more prediction-reliant and the inability to damage Pokemon like Steelix and Galarian Slowbro if it locks into the wrong move is a major drawback. Darkest Lariat is specifically used for Ghost-types, which would otherwise wall Bewear, and allows Bewear to hit Psychic-types like Galarian Slowbro and Xatu without taking recoil from Double-Edge. A Jolly nature is used to outpace Jolly Golurk and Scrafty, but an Adamant nature gives Bewear more immediate strength.
Bewear appreciates the support from pivots such as Barraskewda, Porygon2, and Dragalge, which all give it free turns; Dragalge's ability to draw in Steel-types is particularly helpful. Other potential teammates such as Gardevoir appreciate Bewear's ability to remove Steel-types. Teammates such as Bronzong and Espeon alleviate some of the weakness to Fairy-, Flying-, Fighting-, and Psychic-types that Bewear has while profiting off the defensive utility Bewear provides, notably its ability to switch into Knock Off and Pokemon like Golisopod. Since Choice Band Bewear forces so many switches, Spikes support can be helpful to chip the foe; Klefki can both set Spikes and take on Gardevoir if it is sent in to revenge kill Bewear.
