[OVERVIEW]
On paper, Durant appears to have all the tools to make it a formidable wallbreaker, with good Speed and Attack, access to Hustle, and Hone Claws to boost Attack and make up for the accuracy issues arising from Hustle. Additionally, good coverage combined with a good offensive typing theoretically let it threaten common defensive archetypes relying on traditional Steel-type checks like Cobalion and Rotom-H, setting it apart from Scizor. However, Durant's bad defensive stats and good, but not great, Speed tier leave it vulnerable to faster threats like Mega Manectric and common Choice Scarf users like Togekiss, and it is unable to perform tasks typically assigned to Steel-types, such as being able to pivot into resisted attacks from prominent threats like Celebi. These factors combined with the massive accuracy issues arising from Hustle while unboosted leave it outclassed by other more reliable Steel-type setup users with a better ability to threaten those faster Pokemon with priority, like Scizor and Lucario, or those with more defensive utility, like Cobalion.
[SET]
name: Hone Claws
move 1: Hone Claws
move 2: Iron Head
move 3: Superpower
move 4: Crunch / Rock Slide
item: Steelium Z
ability: Hustle
nature: Jolly
evs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
Durant aims to be used as a wallbreaker that can use its immense power, above average Speed, and good coverage to break past traditional answers to Steel-types like Rotom-H and Doublade after it comes in off a teammate's sacrifice or pivoting move like Volt Switch, which is mandated due to its poor defenses. Scizor simply does this better, though, as more offensive teams can utilize Swords Dance sets instead to pressure the same checks while also dealing with the faster threats such as Choice Scarf Krookodile and Hydreigon much more easily than Durant ever could due to Scizor's strong Bullet Punch. Other options like Mega Steelix and Bisharp are also better than Durant, as they can still wallbreak while being able to switch into and threaten out foes that Durant cannot, like Dragonium Z Latias.
