they truly managed to turn the best show on tv into something legit worse than the average brazilian soap opera.
positive aspects of season 7 were literally only action scenes and exclusively the ones with dragons involved. action scenes in this season were truly visual masterpieces, but even still I felt like there were no sequences comparable to the ones in previous seasons in terms of excitement that comes with good plot development.
the poor writing here was just too much. it's noticeable how they can't handle wrapping up this story without turning this show into something completely different (and much worse) than what it used to be. we're literally stuck with a handful of actually relevant characters (jon, daenerys, the night king, cersei) and everyone else is pretty much irrelevant to the major plot. watching scenes from winterfell this season (or any dialogue really) felt like I was watching filler episodes inside episodes. this entire winterfell plot really came down to them killing littlefinger in one of the most predictable but also badly written ways yet, with no relevance to the major plot whatsoever. it's one thing to watch something that might not influence the major plot right away but will be relevant to the show at some point, such as arya's journey to become a faceless assassin while having a goal to kill people on her list, but it's another completely different one to waste an entire season of her being shady around winterfell threatening sansa for pretty much no reason.
I feel like so many people will insist that this season was good because of action sequences when it was probably the worst by far. I really don't understand how people think this plot was set up well when they literally came up with one of the dumbest reasons to give the night king a dragon (pretty much the only way they could think of making the whitewalkers go through the wall). that entire plan was so fucking stupid I legit don't think I've seen such tremendous bad writing on the show. I'm gonna make a list of shit I'm super upset about this season to not extend this post even more.
- how are you supposed to pick up one whitewalker? they're always walking in a pack of like 100.000 together and they never stray away from each other.
- why is gendry actually usain bolt? why is that raven actually a choice scarf ninjask?
- why are the whitewalkers a threat if they can't go through the wall? isn't the only way they lose this war if they are forced to fight it by coming up with a stupid plan that ends up giving the night king a mystical creature that will eventually destroy the wall and threaten humanity to begin with?
- we don't know what to do with characters like littlefinger and melisandre, so let's just get rid of them? we've been following them since season 1 and they were legit just removed from the show for no reason.
- why is everyone ok with daenerys and tyrion trying to pull this bullshit truce in this medieval era with one of the worst human beings of all time? what the fuck. this is game of thrones not the fucking un.
- brienne follows people for loyalty since season 1. swore an oath to protect renly, stayed with him until the end. swore an oath to the stark girls, is still protecting them. "fuck loyalty! fuck oaths!" - brienne of tarth to jaime lannister asking him to talk to cersei, right after jon snow (the dude on her side) fucks up the deal for being loyal to daenerys. :thinkingEmoji:
- bran "knows everything" but who really knows everything is my boy samwell tarly, who managed to read 3 books this season and find out the cure to an incurable disease, the biggest source of dragonglass in westeros, and jon sand's actual name. bran proving himself as the most incompetent three-eyed raven of all time, who literally used his power to narrate vanilla porn and tell his sister she looked pretty when she was raped. amazing.
I could keep on nitpicking but honestly every dialogue this season was just so bad they could fit in this list so I'll just stop it for now. I'm really salty and sad about how this show is ending up.
