Moves
========
Swords Dance is important for Jumpluff, allowing it to hit decently hard in spite of its meager base Attack. Strength Sap provides Jumpluff with a form of recovery that also lowers the opposing Pokemon's Attack by one stage, giving it the ability to more consistently check Gurdurr, remain healthy while attempting to sweep, and play around certain priority users like Shiftry. Sleep Powder lets Jumpluff cripple switch-ins like Aggron, defensive Mesprit, and Weezing, which can give it an easier time setting up or recovering as well as potentially generate a free turn for a teammate.
Set Details
========
By not holding an item, the Base Power of Acrobatics instantly doubles. Infiltrator allows Jumpluff to bypass the Substitutes of Pokemon like Haunter, Jynx, and Mesprit, which can be useful for preventing them from getting out of hand.
Usage Tips
========
Early- and mid-game is when Jumpluff should focus on crippling foes with Sleep Powder, sustaining itself with Strength Sap, and gradually wearing the opposing team down with Acrobatics. Jumpluff lacks the bulk necessary to switch into neutral attacks as well as reliably double switch, so it should primarily come in on Pokemon like Gurdurr or after a teammate has been KOed. Although Jumpluff can switch in on resisted attacks from Pokemon like Lilligant and Primeape, it should only do so if absolutely necessary, as they can easily take it out with their super effective or powerful neutral coverage moves. Waiting until physically bulky foes and Flying-resistant Pokemon like Weezing and Oricorio-E have been either removed or heavily damaged is ideal, as this gives Jumpluff a greater chance of sweeping the opposing team. Jumpluff should also wait until faster foes like Lycanroc and Choice Scarf Scyther have been taken out, as they can quickly end its sweep. Certain Grass-types such as Lurantis and Bellossom as well as other Pokemon such as Primeape locked into Close Combat often make for perfect setup fodder. If necessary, predicting switches and using Sleep Powder as an opposing Pokemon like Skuntank comes in can ease setup. If possible, try to preserve Jumpluff against offensive teams, as it can potentially annoy them with Sleep Powder and its solid Speed tier.
Team Options
========
Swords Dance Jumpluff fits best on bulky offensive teams looking for a setup sweeper that can use its great Speed tier and utility and support options to annoy playstyles ranging from offense to balance while also keeping Gurdurr in check. Secondary Fighting-type checks like Mesprit, Weezing, and Jellicent can more reliably take on Pokemon like Primeape, Crabominable, and Combusken. Mesprit can support Jumpluff with U-turn, Stealth Rock, and Healing Wish, while the latter two can pressure bulkier teams with their utility moves. Jumpluff appreciates having bulky Pokemon such as Regirock, Mudsdale, and Gurdurr to sponge priority moves and fall back on against revenge killers like Dodrio, Lycanroc, and Choice Scarf Primeape. Entry hazard removers such as Skuntank, Kabutops, and Alolan Sandslash are important, as they make Jumpluff less reliant on Strength Sap and allow it to remain as healthy as possible whenever it switches in. Alolan Sandslash can also check Ice-types like Aurorus, dent Rock- and Steel-types with its coverage, and put bulky Pokemon like Quagsire on a timer with Toxic. Powerful wallbreakers that also fit on bulky offense like Aurorus, Jellicent, and Stoutland not only allow Jumpluff to sweep more easily but also pick up the slack for it offensively when it can't find a chance to set up. These examples appreciate Jumpluff sponging Knock Off, serving as a soft Fighting-type check, and potentially giving them an easier time switching in with Sleep Powder.
