Luck vs. Skill (Gen IV Warstory)

Well, this is my first warstory, so please be gentle with me.

tito and I were first round opponents in a Gen IV OU tournament on Pokemon Online. What resulted was a surprisingly epic battle that brings the theory of luck vs. skill into question, and not in a way I'd expect. Read on and you'll (hopefully) see what the hell I'm on about.

Comments will be in light blue.

Apologies for the poor quality; the transfer of the warstory from Mac and Word 2008 to PC and Word 2003 failed, and I lost all formatting and images, and I could only fix so much before I was overcome by stress.

Switching back to Heatran here frustrated me. After losing Tyranitar, I thought Bronzong was my best bet for taking out Heatran (I never thought about Slowbro). I decided the only way to have Bronzong come back and finish it off was via revenge kill, which meant sacrificing my Dusknoir. Nice warstory! You could have included more comments between each move though. A good warstory generally doesn't have too much hax though and this game was full of hax! Quite a few interesting predictions. For a TR team, though, it is always best to have a scarfer to use when TR runs out and you don't have one.

To be honest, this probably wasn't the best battle to warstory. There was a huge amount of hax, it was all against your opponent, and he still beat you. You also want to explain you thought processes more, and also know a bit more about the metagame so that you can make better predictions: in future, try going by the rule of thumb that you explain your part of a turn before the turn, rather than after, because it seems to help. Try looking in the warstory archive to see examples of good ones.

I thought this was a pretty bad warstory. There was little commentary and way too much hax. If you want to post a funny warstory with obscene amounts of hax (for comical purposes) that's cool, but there was some bad playing and we couldn't see what was going on in your mind because of the skimpy comments.

Haxy Battles aren't good battles to warstory & comments are lacking. May I suggest expanding the commentary? Other than that, a better battle. 2/5.

Told you I'd get abuse! You were told to be gentle with me! This is only my first warstory! All that work and stress making this warstory and this is my reward for hard work!

Do all first-timers get this much crap?

That's a bit harsh, but pretty accurate. Ideal warstories should consist of completely no hax, along with high level prediction and thinking from both players. This was basically just tito struggling against some above average amounts of hax (with some rather humorous reactions).

Well at least you had percentages. However, both of you didn't play well (I could barely get through the initial Zapdos vs. Aero matchup) and it needs way more comments.

Ok, I'm not going to comment the War Story because I agree with the general opinion here but congrats for finishing a battle with tito. I've started 4 battles against him and it either ends up with he being kicked or quitting because of a miss or a crit.

Better luck next time.
