Let's Play! lyd plays pokémon emerald nuzlocke

Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 17.42.51.png

Hey everyone! It's me, lyd, everyone's least favorite OU "contributor" and I'm here to attempt my first ever nuzlocke challenge. Now you may be asking, "why are you doing this?" As Sword & Shield is about to drop and there's SS OU for me to play. Well, I'm kinda missing the novelty of playing the in-game, and since I don't have a switch, I sadly won't be able to experience that with Sword & Shield. Also poor Hoenn suffered quite a bit from dexit and this is nice way to say farewell to some of gen 3's Pokémon as not all of them will make it onto SS and especially SS OU. I also had never tried a nuzlocke before and I decided it would be the perfect time to do so, if I enjoy my time with this I'll definitely attempt some harder versions of the nuzlocke, but for now that's it. I'll be sharing all my progress in this thread and I hope you guys enjoy my experience!

rules:
  • The player may only capture the first Pokémon he or she encounters in an area.
  • If the player has already caught a Pokémon they cannot pick it again.
  • If a Pokémon faints, it is considered "dead" and must be released immediately.

So, I was supposed to update this post yesterday, but I got really sick and had to go to the hospital. I'm good now and finally managed to compile everything together :)

So... This is the start of my journey. Hope I don't have too many casualties... So first thing the game does is ask my name:
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 17.44.41.png

I'm naming myself lyd. I ain't name revealing here of all places. Sorry, not sorry.
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 17.45.53.png

So, I think we all know this part, right? Just leaving the truck we were fucking trapped in. What a great start!
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 17.46.45.png

"lyd, wake up!"
"5 more minutes, mom..."
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 17.49.04.png

Ok, time to start taking this nuzlocke seriously... And I do what I always do in a Pokémon game, talk to literally every NPC I can find otherwise my OCD kicks in. And also read every sign, that's important too!
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 17.49.56.png

It be like that...
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 17.51.51.png

So I pick Treecko, my favorite Hoenn starter, and also my favorite Grass-type starter. I know I have picked Treecko like almost every single time I play through RSE and it's remakes but honestly I love this Pokémon so much that it would be a disservice for me not to pick it again. We start off beating the Zigzagoon that professor Birch couldn't flee from and now I'm well on my way to become a Pokémon master!
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.55.34.png

I beat some Poochyena on the way, but I couldn't catch em yet so we just keep progressing.
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.40.28.png

Here's kapulei, the Treecko. Named after a shapeshifting lizard/gecko from Hawaiian mythology.
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.44.26.png

Nurse Joy heals kapulei in Oldale Town!
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.46.04.png

Can confirm my team is pretty scarce so far... If only I could buy some PokéBalls.
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.49.41.png

Now onto Route 103 to find May!
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.50.55.png

And she wants to battle... Thank god her Torchic doesn't have Ember yet, otherwise I'd be in trouble.
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.51.38.png

And kapulei managed to take Torchic down! And gained some valuable experience along the way.
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.54.02.png

And so it officially begins!
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.55.52.png

And Wurmple is my first encounter. Poochyena or Zigzagoon would probably have been better, but I kinda like the Wurmple line a bit so I'm a bit happy with this encounter.
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 20.56.43.png

Wasn't very hard to catch, I'll tell you that much...
Screen Shot 2019-11-11 at 21.01.56.png

I named her psyche, based on a woman from Greek mythology with the same name, known for her association with butterflies, which (spoiler alert) she will eventually evolve to.

kapulei (Treecko) (M)
Ability: Overgrow
Level: 7
Lax Nature
- Pound
- Leer
- Absorb

psyche (Wurmple) (F)
Ability: Shield Dust
Level: 3
Quiet Nature
- Tackle
- String Shot
  • Route 101 - Wrumple

name something cool after me plskthx
sure!

Got some more progress done!

Leaving Oldale it's time to visit Route 103 and catch my Pokémon there
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 17.56.24.png

And I found a Poochyena, cool!
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 17.57.02.png

That was easy.
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 17.58.03.png

Named him fenrir. After the norse wolf of the same name!
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.05.45.png

Route 102 time!
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 17.59.33.png

This NPC in Route 102 was getting greedy with Growls.
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.00.41.png

The plan was to catch some new Pokémon in Route 102 but I only got Wurmples and Poochyenas so it took a bit of a while.
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.06.54.png

So I found this Lotad, and this is a really nice Pokémon to have. It helps me not get bodied by May's Torchic's Ember, and I'm a pretty big fan of the Lotad line.
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.07.46.png

And I did not accidentally kill him. Nice!
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.09.10.png

Nice nature :) also the nickname is based on a creature from Japanese mythology. That actually is the inspiration for Lombre, so that's nice.
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.15.00.png

And here's kapulei destroying a Taillow. Type effectiveness? What's that?
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.20.06.png

And my luck starts to dwindle...
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.24.15.png

So we reach Petalburg City. Treecko is at a pretty good level and I'm also training fenrir and kappa on the side. I like psyche and all, but I don't think she's worth training for now.
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.25.22.png

Oh yeah, and we have a dad in this game. I hope his Slakings aren't too much of a problem later on...
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.26.05.png

Taking Wally for a walk.
Screen Shot 2019-11-12 at 18.27.34.png

And now I know where to go now. Thanks dad!

kapulei (Treecko) (M)
Ability: Overgrow
Level: 10
Lax Nature
- Pound
- Leer
- Absorb

psyche (Wurmple) (F)
Ability: Shield Dust
Level: 3
Quiet Nature
- Tackle
- String Shot

fenrir (Poochyena) (M)
Ability: Run Away
Level: 5
Timid Nature
- Tackle
- Howl

kappa (Lotad) (M)
Ability: Swift Swim
Level: 5
Timid Nature
- Astonish
- Growl
  • Route 101 - Wrumple
  • Route 103 - Poochyena
  • Route 102 - Lotad

name something after me too : D
surely will
very epic nuzlocke so far, cool gamer lyd :pimp:
thanks estronic :pimp:
Really digging the mythological naming.
Also funny how Psyche is weak to Flying when you know the myth...
Hahah, true, didn't think about that :bloblul:

Oh yeah and someone pointed out on Discord that I didn't pick the Wurmples and Poochyenas on Route 102. I'm using the rule of no duplicates, I just forgot to add it to the OP. So doing so promptly!

And more stuff today :)

So onto Route 104 we go!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.11.28.png

This route gives me a lot of nostalgia, I don't know why...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.11.54.png

And Taillow is the Pokémon we get this time! Awesome :)
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.16.38.png

Named him linnunrata, as it is the place where birds go in the beautiful Finnish mythology!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.25.21.png

Now onto Petalburg Woods!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.28.32.png

And Shroomish is the Pokémon of this route. Arguably one of the best choices for in-game, but I'll probably leave him as backup, as we already have kapulei.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.31.59.png

Named him feng after a creature of same name in Chinese mythology.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.32.51.png

Finding secret items... Stealth: 100.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.34.14.png

And here's me training up linnunrata while it OHKOes any Bug-type on its way!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.38.12.png

Fighting the first Team Aqua grunt now!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.39.16.png

Thanks, kind stranger!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.42.53.png

Ah HMs! I sure missed them...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.44.32.png

Teaching kapulei Bullet Seed as a TM. Roxanne will definitely like these news!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.47.51.png

And we got the item to plant berries. Nice!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.48.57.png

Good! That means I get to steal more money after kapulei bodies everyone of your Pokémon :)
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.53.43.png

And continuing in Route 104 kapulei and linnunrata face off against these twins in their first double battle.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 11.55.13.png

Sneaky X Defend in Rustboro City. And oh yeah, I've reached Rustboro City. I'll grind my Pokémon a bit and challenge the gym soon! Shouldn't be hard with kapulei, though!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.03.10.png

I wonder where I can get the Cut HM...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.03.28.png

Ohhh, it's in the cutter's house!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.04.52.png

I wish linnunrata could learn it, but kapulei will have to do for now.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.13.10.png

And I found a Nincada in the next route. Nice!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.21.20.png

Oh... I forgot about this lame rule. It doesn't let me use Cut before I beat the Gym. But at least I got to train kapulei and linnunrata in Route 116.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.23.13.png

Ok so time to challenge the Gym!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.30.55.png

And kapulei one shots every single Geodude with 1 (one) Bullet Seed hit. LOL.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.32.01.png

And after beating the very last goon before Roxanne...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.32.21.png

We got a strong boi here!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.33.39.png

It's time!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.33.51.png

I was a bit scared of how high her levels would be since this is my first Nuzlocke and all. But kapulei just demolished her first two Geodudes...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.35.52.png

Nosepass was a bit tougher with its Oran Berry popping and her healing it once with a Potion, but it didn't even get to damage kapulei so it was pretty tame.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.36.38.png

And we get a new TM. Maybe something we catch in Rusturf Tunnel could make good use of it.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 12.36.52.png

And that's my first badge :) See you all next time when we visit Devon corp.!

I was bored in the plane for some time so I got quite a bit of progress done yesterday. This post is gonna be quite a bit longer than the other three so far!

So, after beating the Gym in Rustboro, it's time to visit the Devon Corporation and find out what these Team Aqua goons are up to...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.23.51.png

But first I'll explore the places that need cut!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.25.08.png

And the game rewards me with a Miracle Seed. Perfect for kapulei :)
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.33.34.png

So I go to Rusturf Tunnel to help Mr. Briney. And end up encountering a Whismur. You bet I'd wanna catch this Pokémon, as I love the Exploudit line and...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.33.45.png

linnunrata straight up OHKO'ed the poor Whismur :(
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.35.00.png

And now battling the Team Aqua grunt that stole Peeko...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.42.22.png

And now talking to the president. This guy's gonna help me out a lot as you guys will see soon!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.46.52.png

And it's time to fight May again!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.47.29.png

And thankfully linnunrata was able to body everyone! You can bet this won't be the only time linnunrata does this... May, where are your Flying resists? Hello?!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.49.22.png

And so Mr. Briney takes us to Dewford now :)
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 15.50.40.png

And here we are.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 16.30.23.png

Fishing in Dewford City. And cthulhu is caught!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 16.35.22.png

And now in Granite Cave we got a Zubat. Alright! Golbat and Crobat are pretty good!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 16.35.51.png

And Kapulei OHKO'ed the Zubat. LOL. Can't I catch one Pokémon in a cave?!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 16.53.03.png

Now finshing in Route 106 I get a Magikarp. I'm not complaining because this is the only Pokémon I can fish with an old rod (other than Tentacool which I already have). And honestly Gyarados can be really great if I get this little guy to evolve. So echidna is caught!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 16.57.50.png

So... I went on a bit of a tangent after delivering the letter to Steven and decided to go to Slateport and pass by Route 110 to catch a new Pokémon there. I knew I had a good chance of getting Electrike and it's exactly the Pokémon I got!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 17.00.26.png

So skoll is our new team member, with an Electric immunity and a Modest nature. Not bad!!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 17.14.24.png

So after training Skoll up a bit I decide to visit this museum with some awkward looking uniformed goons. Wonder if they're part of an evil team or something... lol.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 17.15.55.png

And now time to take them on. If only skoll had an Electric-type STAB...
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 17.19.12.png

And Archie just shows up! I didn't recall him showing up this early in the story so that's a pleasant surprise!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 17.27.45.png

So, now that I did what the president asked for, I give him a call and he says he got a reward. Nice!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 17.33.22.png

And guess what was the reward? I'm giving the Exp. Share to echidna because honestly Gyarados can be a really good Water-type, and it would be nice to have a good one of these before Flannery's gym.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 20.50.16.png

So. The time has come to challenge the Dewford Gym! Feels like I have been stalling but I'm actually just a bit scared.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.00.06.png

So. The gym so far has been really easy! linnunrata has just literally decimated any Fighting type not in Brawly's team so I hope I won't have that hard of a time here.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.15.04.png

So, as soon as I read this I almost freaked out! This Meditite straight up has Focus Punch! Had I not attacked it right away, this could have been a big problem!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.15.33.png

Makuhita barely survived linnunrata's Wing Attack and dealt a fuckton of damage with Vital Throw. Thankfully it was still in range after its Oran Berry.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.16.35.png

So we get Bulk Up as a TM, which is honestly a pretty good TM. But no one can learn it.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.17.16.png

And second badge's attained! Nice.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.22.12.png

Now I'm back to Slateport and I get a call from Roxanne after beating the trainers in the beach. My dumbass thought this was her calling for a rematch which I thought would be a good way to give experience to kapulei and echidna, but nah she's just basically calling to get my number. That didn't stop me to go all the way to Rustboro to figure that out though :P
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.28.31.png

Grinding skoll in Route 110 and I remembered Electric types can get Paralyzed this gen. Lame... And speaking of Route 110. I decided to grind around to make sure all my Pokémon are capable of taking on May. And I really want skoll to learn Spark too so yeah. I'll be here for a while.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.35.53.png

skoll and kapulei beating a really annoying double battle lol. Basically these guys had two Plusle and two Minun and all four had Oran Berries. LOL. This battle legit took like 15 minutes.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.40.16.png

This route is literally like. Annoying trainers: the Route. Jeez!
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.46.09.png

Having vietnam flashbacks now lol.
Screen Shot 2019-11-13 at 21.53.22.png

Ah yes, the PP UP!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 00.01.24.png

So after a lot of grinding...
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 00.01.42.png

And we get this beautiful Swellow. Nice :)
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 00.08.21.png

Also decided to stop by this place too because why not?
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 00.33.12.png

And it's time! Not gonna talk much about this match because linnunrata literally OHKO'ed everyone! Guess I overestimated May's power lol.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 00.44.42.png

Too bad I won't be able to use it :(
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 01.09.38.png

And we get to Mauville and of course Wally's blocking the gym...
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.17.31.png

And it was pretty easy with Pursuit OHKO'ing Ralts.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.20.23.png

So I entered this house and this seemed like a fun side quest. But no. All this did was give me a Coin Case for the Game Corner. At least I got train a bit more in the Cycling Road.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.21.10.png

It does seem kinda degrading.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.25.15.png

So nice to use a Bike indoors!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.36.12.png

Oh yeah, and while training in the Cycling Road, echidna got to level 20!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.36.32.png

Gyarados is here! He only has Bite and Tackle but it's something!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.39.30.png

Aaand I just realized how annoying Magnemite is to my team. Kapulei is able to beat them 1v1 but literally every cyclist here had a Magnemite so this was pretty annoying.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 08.41.16.png

We can park here?
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 09.14.41.png

And skoll finally learned Spark. Nice!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 09.27.59.png

Proud of my girl bodying Flying-types.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 09.30.32.png

Caught this girl in Route 117 too!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 09.34.15.png

And we're in Verdanturf. I'll train my team a bit more and challenge the gym soon!

So, between a couple of plane flights, I ended up playing some more, but I was busy starting on a mini internship so I didn't get the chance to write up this post before, and it wasn't on my priority list with S&S OU coming out, but now we're back and I have lots of catching up to do! This post is gonna be long lol, but hope you enjoy nonetheless!

While working on this post for quite some time I realized how long it was getting so I'll be splitting it into post #5 and post #6 which I'll post in the next day or so

Back to our journey...
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 14.27.12.png

Some high IQ double battles with NPCs before the gym.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 14.50.11.png

Now challenging the Winstrate family. I'm well aware grandma has a fucking High Jump Kick Meditite, so I'mma be real careful.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 14.56.23.png

Beating her was actually fine at the end of the day. Lead with linnunrata and it straight up OHKO'ed the Meditite.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.09.44.png

Time for the gym now, though. I thought this'd be easy after beating a High Jump Kick Meditite, but boy was I wrong.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.21.08.png

All the gym trainers were pretty fine and I thought I'd be cool with a Grovyle versus Wattson, but well, I underestimated his Manectric. I'll tell you that much.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.26.18.png

And that's a good start! I really thought kapulei would do the trick in one hit, but my boy survived with that Lax nature.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.27.22.png

Second 'mon down!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.30.27.png

So, I really didn't have a good Magneton switch in, so I had to keep kapulei in, and keep wearing it down until I beat it. Of course, this meant a lot of Super Potions and a lot of full paralyzes. At least I managed to waste Wattson's Super Potions, so that's at least a positive. Had he not used 'em all on Magneton, I think I might have been screwed against his Manectric.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.35.29.png

And at least, kapulei takes it out. Onto the Manectric!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.37.16.png

So. It started Howling up, and I honestly didn't consider it getting that troublesome. I had to pull a double to echidna and back to kapulei at least once or twice to remove some of the boosts, but it was still looking rough to me.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.38.05.png

And it has a fucking Sitrus Berry. Now my Grovyle is low and I'm honestly clueless what to do against this Manectric so that it doesn't straight up sweep my whole team.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.39.54.png

kapulei getting low rolls with Bullet Seed really wasn't helping me. And at this point Manectric had a handful of boosts under its belt.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.40.08.png

So, at this point, I had a little plan. The only way I could get to beat this monster was to sacrifice someone, because literally none of my Pokémon could take a second hit.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.40.26.png

From there I went into skoll to get some chip damage off so that I could actually beat this Manectric.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.42.18.png

Had to sacrifice kappa as, once again, no one could stomach a hit.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.42.50.png

From this point though, it was just enough for Silk Scarf linnunrata to pick the Manectric off. I'm still baffled I managed to beat this Manectric without any *major* casualties. F in chat for kappa and fenrir, both served their duties and will sincerely be missed.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.44.07.png

And here's the state of the team after this match. Really close call!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.43.32.png

Thanks Wattson! I really needed some kind of reward after you literally almost wiped out my whole team lol.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 15.44.00.png

And the third badge's acquired. Nice!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.13.18.png

Time to put 'em in the box. Goodbye, fenrir.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.13.28.png

Goodbye, kappa!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.21.39.png

I really like side quests like this. As ridiculous as they may be!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.34.47.png

Now onto a new Route!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.40.09.png

And hephaestus is the team's new member. I feel like a Ground-type is really welcome after the Manectric massacre so there we go!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.51.08.png

Looks fishy. I wonder what's up!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.52.12.png

And Koffing is my Fiery Path encounter. A good 'mon overall!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.55.48.png

Managed to catch it. She's named after the Hawaiian deity Pele.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 19.57.06.png

And I'm putting some 'mons in the daycare so they can gain experience along the way. You never know when you need new Pokémon.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.08.02.png

Really happy to find this NPC. This route was getting long enough as is!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.13.36.png

And this guy's the one telling me about Secret Bases. That's cool and all but looking back at ORAS I really miss the addition of Aarune!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.17.04.png

Now onto this beautiful route! Really hoping for a Skarmory, but the odds are slim...
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.17.14.png

Welp, that's not a Skarmory!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.22.16.png

Double Battle tips 101: You can use Self-Destruct to KO your ally!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.28.55.png

And we're training little hephaestus. He's gonna be a mainstay :)
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.40.35.png

And after such a long way to the next Town, we reach Fallarbor. Finally!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.42.46.png

Beautiful Town tbh.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.48.22.png

Upon visiting Professor Cozmo's house, we found out he's missing! Fishy once again...
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 20.49.53.png

If only I could found Gold Nuggets like this in real life lmao.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.05.00.png

On my way to the next Town, this random Barboach gets a straight-up Magnitude 10!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.11.54.png

After training skoll up a bit it finally evolved! I really love Manectric so I'm glad to have it on my team.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.15.10.png

And this is our Route 114 encounter. Since kappa is dead, we can catch a Lombre!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.15.56.png

Having a little visit to Lanette's house.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.17.42.png

And I just remembered to give Manectric the Shock Wave TM.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.40.18.png

Onto Meteor Falls. Really wish Bagon was catchable throughout the whole cave but it's sadly only available in a specific room.
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.42.26.png

And I was wishing for a Bagon earlier lol!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.45.24.png

And there's Professor Cozmo!
Screen Shot 2019-11-14 at 23.46.08.png

Honestly, I really like how these games have two villainous teams, and seeing their interactions is pretty cool!
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.22.40.png

The precursor of the Ball Guy!
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.33.31.png

And now we can go up the gondola to Mt. Chimney! I love this view.
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.36.29.png

And here we are. I really like this place, we need more volcanoes in Pokémon.
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.40.59.png

And after defeating all the goons, it's time to challenge Maxie. I don't think it's gonna be particularly hard with hephaestus and echidna, but well, we'll see!
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.43.32.png

And echidna is straight-up bodying everyone. I'm glad I decided to level up my Magikarp!
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.45.47.png

Fufufu...
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.47.15.png

Onto Jagged Path now!
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 12.50.33.png

And this cutie is our encounter :)
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 13.10.02.png

And we finally hit Lavaridge Town! Might as well take this Egg to hatch!
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 13.11.30.png

Hephaestus is gonna like this!
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 13.13.44.png

Changing bikes to explore more of Jagged Path.
Screen Shot 2019-11-15 at 13.19.20.png

Oh yeah, and while we're at Mauville, I'm buying the Thunderbolt TM for Manectric!

Oh yeah, and while we're at Mauville, I'm buying the Thunderbolt TM for Manectric!
A Thunderbolt TM was available through a side quest at New Mauvile after defeating Norman, (you need Surf access to get to New Mauville) so you didn't exactly need to get Thunderbolt. (*cough* you should have bought Flamethrower for Numel *cough*) It's not all that bad though, as your Gyarados can learn it, and it's not the worst idea to have a backup Thunderbolt TM in case Manectric randomly dies.

Something else I thought would be worth mentioning would be to check the Abandoned Ship at Route 108, (The sea between Dewford and Slateport) because there's a nice Ice Beam TM there for use.

im aware still havent beaten norman and i hadnt even beaten flannery by then. i just wanted a strong stab on manectric.

and yeah i knew about these and thought backup thunderbolt would be alright, plus numel can rock overheat, especially since its more of a mixed attacker anyway

but ye thanks for the input

What happened to this :'(

I lied, I just 100%'d Celeste and remembered about this project so I'm gonna keep going! (Plus now I've discovered how to speed up my em*lator, so grinding for Norman is gonna be less boring...)

Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.17.57.png

kapulei finally learned leaf blade, thank god
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.26.34.png

now onto lavaridge's gym
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.27.16.png

i bet they do
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.44.53.png

the gym trainers were pretty easy, now onto flannery herself. i think hephaestus and echidna are gonna go a long way in this battle but let's see how it pans out.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.46.51.png

here we can visibly see flannery cheating by having a camerupt that clearly shouldn't have evolved yet, classic...
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.47.57.png

we also see white smoke being put to good use by miss flannery here, who'd have thought.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.48.10.png

her overheats in sun do a fuckload of damage, but echidna can still shrug it off.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.49.11.png

slowly but surely, we take down the torkoal.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.50.08.png

or so i thought...
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.50.55.png

and at least, the torkoal goes down, just like my battery! my past self really wanted to lose the progress, didn't he?
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.52.36.png

it was a relatively easy match, i was able to breeze through it without any casualties thankfully.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.52.46.png

also got a new tm to teach to hephaestus, dope
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.53.36.png

i hate to do this, but echidna didn't have many valuable physical moves, so i suppose this works.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.54.18.png

well, i'm writing this like almost 6 months after i played this, so yeah, very much so, may!
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 21.57.36.png

precisely.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 22.06.13.png

also hatched this egg 'cus wynaut?
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 22.09.10.png

grinding in this route was pretty useful, got some items from this guy and some experience in the meantime.
Screen Shot 2019-11-20 at 22.19.44.png

now onto the desert, i stumbled upon this tour so i'm gonna be able to get myself a fossil, that's pretty nice
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 18.55.57.png

it looks very cozy on the inside
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 18.56.09.png

and this sandshrew is my encounter for the mirage tower.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.08.08.png

thankfully i caught him too! he'll probably be benched for now, but you never know, it's a nuzlocke, after all.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.11.30.png

meanwhile my encouter for the route 111 is a trapinch, with the right ability too!
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.12.12.png

i love trapinch line so much, glad to have her on the squad.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.12.54.png

and her nickname will be arachne.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.16.56.png

while perambulating in the desert, i came across a picknicker, now tell me, who the hell makes a picknick in the desert? couldn't make the word SANDwich more literal...
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.18.59.png

also found a rare candy in the way, very very useful item, as it saves my lazy ass some minutes of grinding.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.19.39.png

good question may, i looked it up in bulbapedia and they're in the mirage tower '-'
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.38.01.png

taking a break to heal my guys, we did quite a bit of grinding in this desert.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.54.38.png

now, we're back to mirage island, and this time with the appropriate bike.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.57.58.png

i decided to take anorith since it's by far my favorite of the two. i know anorith is borderline useless, but my attachment to it is too much to take it over lileep of all things.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 19.58.15.png

aaaand it's gone... rip mirage tower.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 22.31.20.png

i thought this guy would restore my fossil, but no, looks like i'll have to go all the way to devon corporation.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 22.42.35.png

and there he is, proetus, the anorith.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 22.45.40.png

also taking a look at feng in the day-care, while i'm nearby.
Screen Shot 2019-11-25 at 22.55.14.png

also going to waste some time in this place, can be nice to get some levels!
Screen Shot 2019-11-26 at 11.01.48.png

after grinding a bit in the trick house, i decided to go to the gym and beat the trainers. i did so and decided to save norman for later, 6 months later, to be precise. it's gonna require a lot of grinding to beat his slakings, but hopefully i'll be back soon with post #7

Posting again because I decided to grind and challenge Norman this afternoon. Also, I'm going to post more often in order to not lose interest. And I'll also be taking fewer screenshots but be more descriptive. I believe this format will work better since it demands less work from me, thus making me more interested in finishing this after all!

Screen Shot 2020-06-10 at 18.44.27.png

I grinded a lot this afternoon, getting everyone bar arachne to level 32, one level above Norman's Slaking. And now it's time to challenge him after all. My strategy was pretty simple, lead with kapulei and Leaf Blade the Spinda and Vigoroth, go into skoll on Linoone, as I outspeed it and can KO it if it Belly Drums, or if it straight up attacks skoll can take a Facade pretty comfortably. And last was to go to echidna on Slaking, Intimidating it, and healing every turn that Slaking is loafing around, sounds like a plan.
Screen Shot 2020-06-10 at 18.47.16.png

Norman lead with Spinda as I lead with kapulei, everything panned out with kapulei even getting a critical hit on the leaf blade to OHKO the Spinda. Vigoroth was also easily 2HKO'ed and didn't do much in return.
Screen Shot 2020-06-10 at 18.48.03.png

Now here comes the deadly Linoone, as planned I go out to skoll, and take a Facade, it does very little, the next turn I Thunderbolt and put it comfortably below half, as Linoone tries to Belly Drum, and fails. Norman uses another Hyper Potion as skoll Thunderbolts to put it below half yet again. Finally, Another Thunderbolt takes it out.
Screen Shot 2020-06-10 at 18.48.50.png

Everything went as planned, so now it's Slaking time.
Screen Shot 2020-06-10 at 18.51.57.png

Echidna was the Pokémon of choice, and it very seamlessly shrugged off a Facade after Intimidate, I managed to get it low, and used Dragon Rage on the Counter turns, until Norman surprised me with Yawn. I didn't realize it had Yawn, so that kind of threw my strategy off, but since it was Yawning instead of attacking, the turns where I would heal I just used a Chesto Berry instead. Slowly but surely I was able to take out the Slaking, after Norman used his Hyper Potion. It went safe and sound without a single casualty, that's what I liked to see! Now I have Surf and Facade as new moves, and a 5th gym badge to boot, awesome!

Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.26.09.png

Continuing where we left off, I now have the HM Surf, allowing me to do the New Mauville side quest!
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.26.52.png

And here we are, at the entrance of New Mauville
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.27.50.png

My encounter is a Voltorb, I'd have most definitely preferred a Magnemite, but this works!
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.36.13.png

After navigating the place and turning off the generator, we get back to Wattson, and receive our reward: TM 24 Thunderbolt. This could be useful should skoll faint, or maybe even as added coverage for echidna.
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.37.31.png

My encounter in Route 118 is a Pelipper while surfing, gonna leave him in the box for now. Maybe if he had Drizzle this generation I'd consider it '-'
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.39.14.png

And I also get the Good Rod in this route, I'll see if there's any location I haven't fished at yet, this could come in useful.
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.40.31.png

And we meet Steven along the way. If I recall correctly we get the Eon twins at this point in ORAS, but sadly it's not as easy in this game...
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.42.45.png

Now onto Route 119. Route 118 was a breeze.
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.44.41.png

And we get a Linoone, not bad...
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.50.08.png

This is one of the nicer Routes, so I'll leave more of the exploration for the next post. I'll just beat the trainers on the way to the Weather Institute, and explore this lower part after.
Screen Shot 2020-06-19 at 11.56.13.png

And 5 minutes later, here we are! I think I might be a tad overleveled after grinding for Norman so much, but well, I'm sure the game will catch up sooner or later. Until then, cya!

More progress and some evolutions today!

Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.18.19.png

Team Aqua is on the Weather Institute so it's time to do their quest thing.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.24.03.png

Skoll just spammed Thunderbolt and OHKO'ed every single Pokémon Team Aqua had, including Shelly's. Now tamar joined the team!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.25.00.png

I also wanted to mention how much I love this route, I'd argue it's one of the best-crafted routes in all of Pokémon.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.26.56.png

Also, May decided to challenge me, it was all pretty easy. Skoll Thunderbolted her Pelipper and echidna took care of the other two.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.27.51.png

Said and done!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.30.37.png

Also gonna teach linnunrata Fly for convenience.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.36.48.png

With some help from Exp. Share, arachne evolved into a beautiful Vibrava!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.38.31.png

And here we are in the beautiful Fortree City! One of my favorite places in all of Pokémon!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.39.59.png

Hephaestus also decided to evolve, good timing buddy!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 15.40.24.png

After grinding the team a bit more to evolve arachne and hephaestus, I decided this should be good enough for now. We'll continue the playthrough next time!

Went through Routes 121, 122, 123, and the Safari Zone today!

Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 19.57.27.png

Marill's our encounter for Route 121.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 19.57.55.png

With a Quick Attack or two, we were able to catch it, nice!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.02.43.png

Along the route, I find Steven chilling in the bridge.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.05.00.png

He gives me the Devon Scope, allowing me to find any invisible Keckleons on my way.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.06.08.png

And with that, I take a quick visit to the Scorched Slab! Really wish Heatran was here in this game lmao, but sadly that's only for the remakes.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.14.27.png

With some more training along the route, kapulei evolves into a beautiful Sceptile.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.19.45.png

After clearing the route, I come across these guys, nothing fishy here, just some random Team Aqua grunts on their way to Mt. Pyre...
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.19.57.png

Also, I get to the Safari Zone, I'll make a stop in Lilycove City real quick to get myself some Pokéblocks, and I'll come back here later. Idk how most nuzlockers do this, but I decided to consider each area a separate encounter.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.20.43.png

In Route 121, I encounter a Shuppet!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.21.01.png

But the poor Shuppet used Curse and ended up killing itself, alas.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.29.42.png

In Route 122, I fished until I found a Wailmer, since Magikarp and Tentacool were already caught. Wailmer was pretty easy to catch.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.38.37.png

After battling some trainers in Route 121, I finally arrive in Lilycove.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.40.34.png

I'm gonna pretend I didn't see May there, she can't wait after I beat Fortree Gym!
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.42.49.png

I was curious how much further the game would let me go before defeating the Fortree Gym. I appreciate how much freedom this game gives you compared to more recent entries.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.48.50.png

I got Giga Drain TM and decided to teach it to kapulei, it's a tad weaker than in more recent gens, but recovering HP while attacking is always valuable.
Screen Shot 2020-06-25 at 20.49.29.png

And here we are in Route 123, time to get my encounter here.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.16.16.png

It seems Shuppet decided to give me another chance, this time I just threw a Pokéball from the get-go to avoid any Curse shenanigans.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.16.27.png

It worked pretty seamlessly.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.20.56.png

Decided to name him vodou, call me uncreative, I don't mind.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.32.32.png

After having explored Route 123, I went to Lilycove to make some Pokéblocks and try my hand at the Safari.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.34.45.png

Pokéblocks made, time to catch some new Pokémon! I'll have access to Areas 1, 2, and 4. And I'll come back after getting Fly HM with the Mach Bike to access Area 3.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.36.58.png

I'm going to use a feeder, since there's a nigh failproof strategy to catching Pokémon using this, read the bulbapedia page for more info!
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.38.24.png

And our Area 4 encounter is a Phanpy, catching it was pretty easy!
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.38.59.png

After throwing a first Pokéblock, Phanpy got curious and was caught in the first try!
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.48.32.png

In Area 1, I've encountered a Girafarig! It has a pretty hard catch ratio, so let's see how it goes.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.49.42.png

I managed to keep Girafarig curious (with no chance to flee), but it's still really hard to catch. I'll try to go near to see if I can increase the catch ratio, although I'm not keen on how that affects the flee chance.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.51.26.png

Thankfully I was able to catch it without it fleeing!
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.58.37.png

For Area 2, I've found a Psyduck.
Screen Shot 2020-06-26 at 10.59.03.png

It was also a piece of cake to catch! This method really is failproof.
