[OVERVIEW]

Mega Altaria is one of the bulkiest Pokemon in 1v1. With its unique Dragon / Fairy typing, it can take on Dark-types such as Mega Gyarados and Mega Sableye as well as Dragon-types such as Garchomp, Dragonite, and Mega Charizard X. Its amazing natural bulk allows it to tank both physical and special attacks while simultaneously recovering 50% of its with Roost. After Mega Evolving, it gains Pixilate for a powerful STAB attack in Hyper Voice. Mega Altaria also has access to useful setup and coverage moves between Cotton Guard and Fire Blast, which aid it in withstanding damage from the many powerful physical attackers that occupy 1v1 such as Mega Charizard X, Landorus-T, and Mega Heracross as well as taking on certain Steel-types that resist its STAB Hyper Voice such as Genesect and Kartana. However, Poison-types such as Naganadel and Mega Venusaur, Steel-types such as Heatran, and Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir and Magearna threaten it. Additionally, due to its relatively low Speed, Pokemon that can outspeed it or hinder its Speed stat such as Smeargle, Jumpluff, and Vivillon take advantage of it.

[SET]
name: Bulky Attacker
move 1: Cotton Guard
move 2: Roost
move 3: Hyper Voice
move 4: Fire Blast
item: Altarianite
ability: Cloud Nine
nature: Calm
evs: 252 HP / 132 Def / 16 SpA / 92 SpD / 16 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Cotton Guard allows Mega Altaria to boost its Defense and beat Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and physical Dragonite. Roost is the only source of recovery Mega Altaria receives outside of Rest, allowing it to recover damage after tanking hits from attackers such as Donphan, Golem, Zeraora, and Zygarde-C. Hyper Voice hits decently hard after Mega Evolving, hitting Pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp, and Zygarde-C super effectively while bypassing Substitute to beat Pokemon such as Whimsicott. Fire Blast is run as coverage to hit Steel-types such as Ferrothorn, Genesect, and Kartana that beat Mega Altaria without it.

Set Details
========

The given defensive investment with a Calm nature allows Mega Altaria to tank a Choice Specs Flash Cannon from Timid Genesect, as well as a Continental Crush followed by a Rock Wrecker from Crustle after one Cotton Guard. 16 Speed EVs allow Mega Altaria to outspeed Adamant Donphan. The remaining EVs are dumped into Special Attack to let Mega Altaria hit slightly harder.

Usage Tips
========

Send Mega Altaria against Pokemon that cannot threaten it with strong, super effective attacks such as Donphan and Mega Lopunny. Against Pokemon such as Groundium Z Landorus-T, Choice Band Kartana, Mega Scizor, and Choice Band Hoopa-U, not Mega Evolving retains Altaria's Dragon / Flying typing and lets it not take super effective damage from attacks Fairy is weak to, such as Mega Scizor's Bullet Punch and Hoopa-U's Gunk Shot. This turn can be used to set up Cotton Guard and Roost off damage taken previously and attack afterwards. These matchups may be mind games, however, such as if Hoopa-U predicts you to not Mega Evolve and hits Altaria with Ice Punch. Against attackers such as Donphan, Zygarde, and Golem, use Cotton Guard on the first turn followed by Roost or Hyper Voice depending on whether Mega Altaria is 2HKOed if it does not use Roost. Avoid bringing Mega Altaria against Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini, and Magearna, since they can OHKO it with their powerful STAB attacks while avoiding the OHKO themselves. Furthermore, avoid bringing it against Pokemon with powerful Ice-type coverage such as Protean Greninja with Ice Beam as well as Weavile and Kyurem.

Team Options
========

Fire-types such as Volcarona and both Charizard Mega Evolutions are highly appreciated due to the weakness that Mega Altaria possesses to Steel-types such as Mega Aggron and Mega Mawile. In return, Mega Altaria counters Mega Gyarados and Zeraora, which the aforementioned Pokemon struggle with. Pokemon with Sturdy such as Magnezone, Sawk, and Crustle function well with Mega Altaria, as they beat special wallbreakers such as Greninja and Naganadel, which can break through it. Mega Altaria in return beats Earthquake Mega Gyarados and Dragonite, which Magnezone struggles with. Mega Altaria takes care of Mega Gyarados, Garchomp, and Ferrothorn, which Crustle struggles with, and deals with Pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and Dragonite, while Sawk beats threats to Mega Altaria such as Heatran and Magearna. Fast teammates such as Zeraora and Greninja make up for Mega Altaria's lackluster Speed, as Zeraora beats opposing Water-types such as Greninja, Tapu Fini, and Primarina as well as Porygon-Z, while Greninja beats Mega Slowbro, Aegislash, and Heatran. In return, Mega Altaria beats Pokemon such as Garchomp and Landorus-T that Zeraora struggles with, as well as Pokemon like opposing Zeraora, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Lopunny that Greninja struggles with.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Confide can be used against special attackers such as Mega Charizard Y, Primarina, and Choice Specs Necrozma to stall them out; however, it is outclassed by the combination of Cotton Guard, Roost, Hyper Voice, and Fire Blast, as you lose valuable matchups by replacing any of these moves. Return or Frustration can be used with a Careful nature to beat Soundproof users, which evade Hyper Voice. Mega Altaria can use Dragon Dance with Giga Impact to fire off a powerful physical Fairy-type attack to beat Pokemon such as Kommo-o, which is not hit by Hyper Voice thanks to Soundproof, and Protean Greninja, which is not OHKOed by Hyper Voice. Unfortunately, this set is outclassed by the special attacking set, as not having Fire-type coverage leaves Mega Altaria walled by Steel-types, and not having Cotton Guard and Roost loses multiple matchups. Hyper Beam can be run as a stronger STAB attack than Hyper Voice and to beat Soundproof Kommo-o, which is not affected by Hyper Voice, and Protean Greninja, but it is extremely situational because Mega Altaria does not have much Special Attack investment to guarantee OHKOs against pokemon such as Dragonite, and Sawk due to Sturdy alongside the detriment of having to recharge for a turn. Bulldoze can be used to decrease the Speed of Pokemon such as Magnezone, but it is again inferior to the given set.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Mega Altaria struggles against Steel-types such as Magnezone, Mega Metagross, and Aegislash due to their super effective STAB moves that inflict too much damage for it to deal with. Pokemon such as Registeel and stall variants of Celesteela can PP stall Fire Blast and knock out Mega Altaria.

**Fairy-types**: Mega Altaria struggles against most Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, and Magearna, as they can OHKO it with super effective STAB moves.

**Poison-types**: Naganadel beats Mega Altaria with its STAB attacks, while Mega Venusaur's bulk and Thick Fat give it the upper hand against Mega Altaria.

**Special Wallbreakers**: Special wallbreakers such as Protean Greninja and Mega Diancie OHKO Mega Altaria. Porygon-Z also OHKOes Mega Altaria with its STAB Normalium Z-boosted Hyper Beam as well as Uproar if it is carrying a Choice Scarf.

**Stall Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro and Type: Null outstall Mega Altaria with Amnesia and Confide and have reliable recovery in Slack Off and Rest, while Taunt users such as Mew and Whimsicott disable Mega Altaria's Roost and heal off the damage taken from it.

Move 4: Fire Blast / Confide
Item: Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
Nature: Bold
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Hyper Voice is run as a STAB Fairy move as it hits decently hard after Mega Evolving, hitting pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp and Zygarde while going through substitute to beat pokemon that utilize it such as Whimsicott.
  • Cotton Guard is an important part of the set as it allows Mega Altaria to boost its defense by three stages allowing it to beat pokemon such as Charizard X and physical Dragonite.
  • Roost is the only source of recovery Mega Altaria receives outside of Rest and allows it to sustain [Add any particular matchups this sustain is helpful for or at least the situations you'd use it against]
  • Fire Blast is run as coverage to hit Steel types such as Ferrothorn who would beat Altaria without it.
  • Confide can be used to nerf against special attackers [such as] and stall them out.
[These moves should be ordered in the same way as they appear in the moveset. Furthermore the most important move should be first, second etc. etc. Please think about which move you would thing is the most essential and organize the moves that way]
Set Details
========
  • 248 HP EVs and 252 Defense EVs alongside a Bold Nature maximize Mega Altaria's physical bulk , allowing it to comfortably tank Neutral hits from Golem, Donphan and Crustle, as well as other strong physical hitters such as Garchomp and Dragonite.
Usage Tips
========
  • Send Mega Altaria against pokemon that cannot threaten you [what common factor is makes these pokemon not threaten you] such as Donphan and Mega Lopunny.
  • Against attackers such as Donphan, Zygarde or Golem, immediately Cotton Guard followed by Roost or Hyper Voice depending on the amount of damage you take. [What is the damage threshold for one over the other]
  • Avoid bringing it against Fairy types such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini and Magearna, since they can hit you with their powerful STAB attacks and can OHKO you while not being OHKO'd themselves
  • Avoid bringing it against pokemon with powerful Ice coverage such as Protean Greninja with Ice Beam, Weavile with its STAB Ice moves, and Genesect with both its Ice coverage and Steel STAB.
  • [As confide is listed on the set list please include when to use it as well]
Team Options
========
  • Fire types such as Volcarona and both Charizard Mega Evolutions are highly appreciated due to the weakness that Mega Altaria possesses to Steel types [such as]. [What does Mega Altaria do in return for these pokemon]
  • Sturdy pokemon such as Magnezone function well with Mega Altaria, as they beat special wallbreakers such as Greninja and Naganadel that can break through it. [What does Mega Altaria do in return for these pokemon]
  • Since Mega Altaria is slow, fast threats such as Zeraora and Greninja make up for it and pair well with Zeraora beating Water types such as Greninja, Tapu Fini and Primarina alongside Genesect and Porygon-Z whilst Greninja beats Mega Slowbro, Aegislash and Heatran. [What does Mega Altaria do in return for these pokemon]
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Mega Altaria can use Dragon Dance with Giga Impact to fire off a powerful Physical Fairy attack. Unfortunately, this set is outclassed by the Special set as not having Fire coverage leaves you walled by Steel types and not having Cotton Guard and Roost loses multiple matchups that outweigh the amount the Physical set gives.
  • Hyper Beam can be run as a stronger form of STAB than Hyper Voice but it is extremely situational as Mega Altaria does not have much Special Attack investment to guarantee OHKOs alongside the detriment of having to recharge for a turn.
  • [Mention Bulldoze as speed control]
Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel Types**: Mega Altaria struggles against Steel-types such as Genesect and Magnezone due to their super-effective STAB that can OHKO it.

**Fairy Types**: Mega Altaria struggles against most Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele and Magearna as they have super-effective STAB that can OHKO it.

**Poison Types**: Poison Types such as Naganadel and Mega Venusaur beat Mega Altaria with their STAB moves in the case of Naganadel and the overall bulk of Mega Venusaur

**Special Wallbreakers**: Special Wallbreakers such as Protean Greninja and Genesect with Ice Beam OHKO Mega Altaria, pokemon such as Porygon-Z also OHKOs Mega Altaria with their STAB Z-Hyper Beam.

**Stall Pokemon**: Pokemon such as Mega Slowbro and Type:Null outstall Mega Altaria with Amnesia and Confide respectively and have reliable recovery in both Slack Off or Rest, while Taunt users such as Mew and Whimsicott disable Mega Altaria's Roost and heal off the damage from it.

Implement this then tag me.

Overall I think you should go through the entirety of your analysis and keep in my mind that people reading this might never have played 1v1. Because of this you might find it necessary to go in to a little bit more detail.

lost heros implemented most of this, removed confide from the main set and moved it to Other Options since I felt like it's kind of worthless on full defensive altaria

  • Confide can be used against special attackers such as Mega Charizard Y to stall it out, however it is better used on sets with more Special Defense as it is still 2HKO'd by most pokemon that Confide is supposed to beat with the Defensive set. (So change this to "You can run confide with a special defensive investment if you need it to beat..." or add another option being a specially defensive invested Altaria to beat greninja and stuff like that Also CharY only beats alt if it has air slash and flinches, otherwise you just spam roost until sun goes out and you win.)
(The set isn't outclassed, talk about what it beats with this set not just that it lets u attacker better. Also for both this and the line below, these options are run partially to beat Soundproof Kommo-o, talk about that as well)
  • Hyper Beam can be run as a stronger form of STAB than Hyper Voice but it is extremely situational as Mega Altaria does not have much Special Attack investment to guarantee OHKOs alongside the detriment of having to recharge for a turn. (Again, what does this beat specifically)
  • Bulldoze can be used to decrease the speed of pokemon such as Magnezone but is inferior to Fire Blast and Hyper Voice. (Why is it inferior, you run it over roost generally so these aren't competing. Talk about how it turns it from a stall mon into a more niche counter, and explain how it beats Zone)

(You don't need roost against Zygarde, you can just click hyper voice 3 times and win) well technically true but keeping out of crit range is important, on the 3rd hit especially where you're down to around 60%, if they z move and crit they could high roll and win.

  • The amazing natural bulk allows it to tank hits from both the special and the physical side to Roost and recover 50% of its health.
  • After mega evolving, it gains Pixilate for a powerful STAB attack in Hyper Voice.
  • Cotton Guard is essential for the set, giving a +3 Defense boost on usage defeating pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and physical Dragonite.
  • Fire Blast acts as coverage hitting pokemon such as Ferrothorn, Kartana and Mega Scizor. [Rewrite these sentences to make the focus more on Mega Altaria rather than on the moves themselves.]
  • However, Poison types such as Naganadel and Venusaur threaten it as well as Steel types such as Heatran and Fairy types such as Mega Gardevoir and Magearna.
[SET]

Name: Bulky Attacker
Move 1: Cotton Guard
Move 2: Roost
Move 3: Hyper Voice
Move 4: Fire Blast
Item: Altarianite
Ability: Cloud Nine
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 HP / 132 Def / 16 SpA / 92 SpD / 16 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========
  • Cotton Guard is an important part of the set as it allows Mega Altaria to boost its defense by three stages allowing it to beat pokemon such as Mega Charizard X and physical Dragonite.
  • Hyper Voice is run as a STAB Fairy move as it hits decently hard after Mega Evolving, hitting pokemon such as Dragonite, Garchomp and Zygarde while going through substitute to beat pokemon that utilize it such as Whimsicott.
  • Roost is the only source of recovery Mega Altaria receives outside of Rest and allows it to sustain against attackers such as Donphan, Golem, Zeraora and Zygarde-Complete.
  • Fire Blast is run as coverage to hit Steel-types such as Ferrothorn and Kartana who would beat Altaria without it.
Set Details
========
  • 252 HP EVs along with 92 SpDef EVs and a Calm Nature allows Mega Altaria to tank a Choice Specs Flash Cannon from Genesect and KO'ing it with Fire Blast.
  • 252 HP EVs along with 132 Def EVs allows Mega Altaria to tank a Z-Rock Wrecker into a Rock Wrecker after Cotton Guard from Crustle.
  • 16 Spe EVs allow Mega Altaria to outspeed Adamant Max Speed Donphan.
  • The 16 SpA EVs allow Mega Altaria to hit slightly harder while not being needed for Defense or Special Defense.
Usage Tips
========
  • Send Mega Altaria against pokemon that cannot threaten you with strong super-effective attacks such as Donphan and Mega Lopunny.
  • Against attackers such as Donphan, Zygarde or Golem, immediately Cotton Guard followed by Roost or Hyper Voice depending on if you are 2HKO'd if you do not Roost.
  • [Add a quick mention for when to use Fire Blast]
  • Avoid bringing it against Fairy types such as Mega Gardevoir, Tapu Lele, Tapu Fini and Magearna, since they can hit you with their powerful STAB attacks and can OHKO you while not being OHKO'd themselves.
  • Avoid bringing it against pokemon with powerful Ice coverage such as Protean Greninja with Ice Beam, Weavile and Kyurem with their STAB Ice moves.
Team Options
========
  • Fire types such as Volcarona and both Charizard Mega Evolutions are highly appreciated due to the weakness that Mega Altaria possesses to Steel types. In return, Mega Altaria counters Mega Gyarados and Zeraora which the aforementioned pokemon struggle with.
  • Sturdy pokemon such as Magnezone function well with Mega Altaria, as they beat special wall-breakers such as Greninja and Naganadel that can break through it. Mega Altaria in return beats Earthquake Mega Gyarados and Physical Dragonite that Magnezone struggles with.
  • Since Mega Altaria is slow, fast threats such as Zeraora and Greninja make up for it and pair well with Zeraora beating Water types such as Greninja, Tapu Fini and Primarina alongside Porygon-Z whilst Greninja beats Mega Slowbro, Aegislash and Heatran. Mega Altaria beats pokemon such as Garchomp and Landorus-Therian that Zeraora struggles with, and opposing Zeraora, Mega Gyarados and Mega Lopunny that Greninja struggles with.
[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============
  • Confide can be used against special attackers such as Mega Charizard Y to stall it out, however it is better used on sets with more Special Defense as it is still 2HKO'd by most pokemon that Confide is supposed to beat with the Defensive set.
  • Mega Altaria can use Dragon Dance with Giga Impact to fire off a powerful Physical Fairy attack to beat pokemon such as Kommo-o as Soundproof is not hit by Hyper Voice. Unfortunately, this set is outclassed by the Special set as not having Fire coverage leaves you walled by Steel types and not having Cotton Guard and Roost loses multiple matchups that outweigh the amount the Physical set gives.
  • Hyper Beam can be run as a stronger form of STAB than Hyper Voice and can be used to beat Soundproof Kommo-o which is not affected by Hyper Voice, but it is extremely situational as Mega Altaria does not have much Special Attack investment to guarantee OHKOs alongside the detriment of having to recharge for a turn.
  • Bulldoze can be used to decrease the speed of pokemon such as Magnezone but is inferior to the given set.
Checks and Counters
===================

**Special Wallbreakers**: Special Wallbreakers such as Protean Greninja and Naganadel OHKO Mega Altaria, pokemon such as Porygon-Z also OHKOs Mega Altaria with its STAB Z-Hyper Beam.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel Types**: Mega Altaria struggles against Steel-types such as Magnezone (, Metagross, Aegislash, Celesteela, and Registeel) due to their super-effective STAB that can OHKO it ("deal too much damage for it to deal with") Most Steels don't OHKO, but rather 2HKO or set up. Also add this, while you're at it -> (as well as their ability to bulk Fire Blast and set up to either knock it out or stall it down).

**Special Wallbreakers**: Special Wallbreakers such as Protean Greninja and Naganadel OHKO Mega Altaria, pokemon such as Porygon-Z also OHKOs Mega Altaria with its STAB Z-Hyper Beam (as well as Uproar from Choice Scarf).

Lost Heros is wrong, the overview is primarily focused on a broad summary rather than delineating on specific characteristics, otherwise you're reiterating it in moves and being super repetitive. I'll talk to lh about it

I don't see a bullet about setup or coverage in the Overview
252 HP EVs along with 92 SpDef EVs and a Calm Nature allows Mega Altaria to tank a Choice Specs Flash Cannon from Timid Genesect and KO'ing it with Fire Blast.
Add the blue Timid, Modest has a kill roll and is unreliable as a result.
Delete what I crossed out. You already explained Fire Blast's purpose in Moves and the Set Details should only be limited to explaining the placement of abilities/items/evs/etc, rather than handling opponents.

lol- Make sure you actually type out what the usage tip is supposed to be and add it with the other Usage Tip bullets.
while Sawk beats threats to Mega Altaria such as Heatran, Magearna and Mega Gardevoir.
You can't beat both Magearna and Gardevoir in a single Sawk Set, and Gardevoir in particular mandates Scarf. Better off just dropping the Gardevoir example.

Fair enough on Meloetta, though.

Since the Overview bullet and Usage Tip still need to be typed out, lmk when done and I'll triple check.
