Belly Drum Azumarill, in my opinion, is the second scariest mon after power herb geomancy Xerneas, and thinking of something wasn't easy.

Water/Ground Counter

Quagsire @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 Def, 132 SpA, 124 Spe
Bold Nature
- Recover
- Sludge Wave
- Scald
- Toxic

Quagsire's ability to deal with Belly Drum Azumarill lies in unaware. This makes the Azu do damage to it as if it had never belly drummed. Max Defense EVs allow it to take the hits well:

252+ Atk Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 52-62 (15.6 - 18.6%) -- possible 8HKO after Leftovers recovery

252+ Atk Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 33-39 (9.9 - 11.7%) -- possibly the worst move ever

252+ Atk Azumarill Play Rough vs. 4 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Quagsire: 72-85 (21.6 - 25.6%) -- possible 5HKO after Leftovers recovery

As you can see, all of Azumarill's moves don't do that much to this beautiful derp creature.

The first move, recover, is to heal off any damage that is dealt to Quagsire. It can be useful if it does get worn down. Scald and Toxic are filler moves (using Toxic WILL NOT affect how quickly the Azumarill dies and would be a waste of a turn). Sludge Wave is the most important move here.

132 SpA Quagsire Sludge Wave vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 140-166 (38.4 - 45.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

This probably won't be included because of the 'low' damage done here, however Quagsire will outlast the Azumarill and be able to kill it first. 124 Speed EVs allow it to speed creep the Azumarill, to given it a better chance in this matchup.

Overall, I see Quagsire as a good counter to Azumarill, while not the best one out there, I think it works and would win in a 1v1 against it.
I haven't calc'd it myself because I'm on mobile, but I think those calcs use sap sipper over huge power. It still switches it on the bd set though.

I'm honestly surprised Quagsire was more common here than Seismitoad >.> But yes, Ground Check:

Seismitoad @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 112 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 140 Spe
Modest Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Focus Blast/Grass Knot

Here it is, the Ground check above all Ground checks. Fairy is the type that typically uses BD Azu, so once you remove it, Excadrill steamrolls Fairy very easily. With Water Absorb, you have nothing to fear about Aqua Jet destroying you whole, as you KO Azu with Sludge Wave(Specs was chosen over Assault Vest because of the fact that Assault Vest Seis does not net the KO on Azu):

252+ SpA Choice Specs Seismitoad Sludge Wave vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 306-362 (84 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Using this requires a sack of course, as switching in can be too risky, being KOed by Knock Off and Play Rough. The spread allows for Seis to outspeed even the rare(and stupid) Jolly BD Azu, and 4 SpD allows for Download boosts to always be an Attack raise, never Special Attack.(Just to note, no speed Seis outspeeds 164 Spe Adamant Azu)

Poison/Water Check:

Tentacruel @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 28 SpD / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Rapid Spin
- Acid Spray/Sludge Bomb
- Haze

Here it is, the Poison check that isn't Amoonguss, Venusaur, or Toxicroak. If you ever decide not to use Venusaur or Amoonguss to deal with the rabbit, please consider this squid. With access to Haze, all the effort it took for Azu to set up that BD goes to waste in an instant, allowing for either Tenta itself to KO it with prior damage, or for a team member to do the job(Rotom-W for example.) Even at +6, Azu does not even 2HKO Tentacruel reliably:

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 248 HP / 216 Def Tentacruel: 170-201 (46.8 - 55.3%) -- 14.8% chance to 2HKO after Black Sludge recovery
Adamant Knock Off after a Haze does not KO you either:

252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off (97.5 BP) vs. 248 HP / 216 Def Tentacruel: 138-163 (38 - 44.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Black Sludge recovery
And lastly, Acid Spray damage:

0 SpA Tentacruel Acid Spray vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 86-104 (23.6 - 28.5%) -- 96.5% chance to 4HKO
0 SpA Tentacruel Acid Spray vs. -2 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 174-206 (47.8 - 56.5%) -- 86.7% chance to 2HKO
Tentacruel is no way superior to Volcanion in Water or Mega Venusaur/Amoonguss in Poison, but it's nice to have a back up right? ;)

Electric Check

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Pain Split
- Hydro Pump
- Volt Switch
- Will-o-Wisp

Rotom-Wash can take a +6 Aqua Jet very nicely, outspeed Azumarill, and kill it with Volt Switch if it's around 50-60%, or cripple it with Will-O-Wisp. While a lot of Electric mons can theoritically check Azumarill, most of them can't take a +6 Aqua Jet, so Rotom-Wash helps remedy that problem on Electric a bit.

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Rotom-W: 109-129 (35.9 - 42.5%) -- 94.8% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Rotom-W Volt Switch vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 188-224 (51.6 - 61.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Dark Check

Cacturne @ Life Orb
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Mild Nature
- Giga Drain
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch / Drain Punch / Spikes
- Spiky Shield

Cacturne isn't the first mon that pops into your head when building a dark team but it definitely has a niche which can make it a somewhat effective mon to use at times. In this case, with BD azu being an extremely big threat to most dark teams, cacturne is a perfect emergency stop to it. With water absorb as its ability, cacturne is immune to azumarill's prioroty AJ and threatens back with a boosted giga drain.

252+ SpA Life Orb Cacturne Giga Drain vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 390-460 (107.1 - 126.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

good stuff.

Electric/Normal Check :

Heliolisk @ Life Orb/Choice Specs
Ability: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hyper Voice
- Grass Knot/Surf/HP Ice/Focus Blast
- Thunderbolt

Heliolisk can RK or switch on Band if he is locked on Aqua-Jet or Waterfall, Thunderbolt OKHO :
252 SpA Life Orb Heliolisk Thunderbolt vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 408-484 (112 - 132.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Fairy Check :

Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Moonlight
- Flamethrower/Heal Bell

Unaware made him one was against all that setup, and Clefable can 2HKO Azu after Belly Drum :

0 SpA Clefable Moonblast vs. 92 HP / 0 SpD Azumarill: 118-141 (32.4 - 38.7%) -- 98.4% chance to 3HKO
252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Unaware Clefable: 157-186 (39.9 - 47.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

But Clefable aren't able to check Banded Azu.

Rock and Steel Check

Aggron @ Aggronite
Ability: Sturdy -> Filter
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Def
Adamant Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Fire Punch
- Earthquake / Sleep Talk
- Rest

This is a more offensive Mega Aggron set, but it doesn't care about most of Azumarill's +6 attacks and OHKOes back (after Azumarill lowers its health with Belly Drum) with Heavy Slam:

+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Play Rough vs. 252 HP / 8 Def Mega Aggron: 169-199 (49.1 - 57.8%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO
+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Waterfall* vs. 252 HP / 8 Def Mega Aggron: 301-355 (87.5 - 103.1%) -- 18.8% chance to OHKO
+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Knock Off vs. 252 HP / 8 Def Mega Aggron: 164-193 (47.6 - 56.1%) -- 82.4% chance to 2HKO
+6 252+ Atk Huge Power Azumarill Aqua Jet vs. 252 HP / 8 Def Mega Aggron: 151-178 (43.8 - 51.7%) -- 10.9% chance to 2HKO
*most BD Azu don't have Waterfall, but even if it does carry that, Mega Aggron still has a good chance to survive a hit
~
248+ Atk Mega Aggron Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 92 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 273-322 (75 - 88.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (OHKO after BD)

For the sake of showing that Mega Aggron counters Azumarill, I used an EV spread that lets it OHKO with Heavy Slam, but it can also just opt for a bulkier EV spread on Rock. Usually Azumarill will have taken some damage on top of Belly Drum recoil, so an alternate EV spread like 252 HP / 128 Atk / 84 Def / 44 SpD is good too, which adds some bulk, lives Focus Blast from LO Gengar and Mega Gardevoir, and still OHKOes what you need it to.

all falls down

This Week's Pokemon:

Round 7: Specs Volcanion
Types: Any type except Water and Dragon!

Volcanion @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Steam Eruption
- Fire Blast
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Grass
good luck :toast:

i name jellicent for a ghost counter

Jellicent @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Toxic
- Recover
- Acid Armor/Hex/Taunt

Probably one of the best counters for Volcanion all around (that is not a fat pink blob), this mon is immune to Steam Eruption, resists not only fire blast but also sludge wave/bomb and is only 3hKOed by hidden power grass, so it can toxic stall it with recover or just scald any incoming switchin

252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Hidden Power Grass vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Jellicent: 150-178 (37.2 - 44.1%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO after Leftovers recovery

Mamoswine @ Focus Sash
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stealth Rock
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off/ Superpower

Since this volcanion is Modest speedy specs why not have something Like Mamoswine check it, Volcanion cannot live a Earthquake so it's done for if it stays in.

Calc: 252+ Atk Mamoswine Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 306-362 (101.6 - 120.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Rotom-Frost @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Blizzard/ Hidden Power [Fire]
- Trick

Dont know if this needs any explanation rotom is faster then volcanion and with specs it kos with its pivot.

252 SpA Choice Specs Rotom-F Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcanion: 414-488 (137.5 - 162.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 SpA Choice Specs Rotom-F Volt Switch vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcanion: 320-380 (106.3 - 126.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Soft-Boiled
- Seismic Toss
- Heal Bell

Weatherless
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 151-178 (23.5 - 27.7%) -- 81.2% chance to 4HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 151-178 (23.5 - 27.7%) -- 81.2% chance to 4HKO

With Sun
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Fire Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Sun: 226-267 (35.2 - 41.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

With Rain
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey in Rain: 226-267 (35.2 - 41.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

Focus Blast Volcanion
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Focus Blast vs. 4 HP / 252 SpD Eviolite Chansey: 220-260 (34.2 - 40.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Stealth Rock

While Chansey doesnt want to switch in on a Sun boosted Specs Fire Blast or a rain Boosted Steam Eruption (which are both still only 3HKOs regardless of rocks at full hp) it can easily stomach any other hit, toxic stall and recover any damage taken with Soft Boiled.

The best anti-Chansey move on Volcanion is definitely Focus Blast (Which I've seen in a OU sun team) which only nets just a 3HKO, and comes with a nasty chance of missing

Can I reserve Mega Gyarados on flying? If I can, I do so I can write an analysis after the 3 day period

Pretty sure that's a counter :d

Grass Checks(/counters?):

Cradily @ Leftovers
Ability: Storm Drain
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Rock Slide
- Recover
- Toxic
- Mirror Coat/Stealth Rock

2 options w/ cradily. Fire Blast does barely over half, so you can either mirror coat if you have it, or just recover stall.
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Cradily: 204-240 (54.2 - 63.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Gourgeist-Small @ Leftovers
Ability: Frisk
EVs: 232 HP / 252 Def / 24 Spe
Impish Nature
- Protect
- Disable
- Will-O-Wisp/Leech Seed
- Seed Bomb/Shadow Sneak

Gourgeist isn't listed in viability, but it should be. Even so, this just a fun little grass check. Come in and protect on which ever move Volanion decides to go for so you can disable the next turn leaving it to struggle as you set up leech seed and/or attack it to death. With just 24 in speed on Gour-S, its able to outspeed too. (note: that also outspeeds adamant Bisharp ;P)

Ability: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Toxic
- Roost
- Heal Bell [filler]

Lol, defensive Dragonite is here. Dragonite serves a great *counter with Multiscale and its typing and natural bulk. Here are some calcs. You could also use Toxic to support if you need to and Roost up in cases of critical hits. Heal Bell also cures the burns from Fire Blast & Steam Eruption.

(Non Multiscale)
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Dragonite: 106-126 (27.4 - 32.6%) -- 68% chance to 4HKO after Leftovers recovery

Garchomp-Mega @ Garchompite
Ability: Sand Force
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge
- Draco Meteor

Has a good defensive typing against Volcanion on Ground, in addition to nice bulk normally. While it can't safely switch in to Steam Eruption with no major SpD or HP investment, it still outspeeds Volcanion and can OHKO it. Also gets to switch in to a Sun boosted Fire Blast.

252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Fire Blast vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Garchomp in Sun: 231-272 (64.7 - 76.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Mega Garchomp: 307-363 (85.9 - 101.6%) -- 12.5% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Mega Garchomp Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Volcanion: 342-404 (113.6 - 134.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Lanturn @ Assault Vest
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SpD / 252 HP / 4 SpA
Calm Nature
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch

- Ice Beam

Assault Vest Lanturn is a terrifying special wall and it eats all of Volcanion's hits well, even HP Grass. 252 SpD and 252 HP EVs allows for minimum damage. Water Absorb prevents Volcanion from using its most dangerous move and can force a switch. If it doesn't switch, Lanturn can use Thunderbolt to 2HKO with little investment. Here are the calcs:

4 SpA Lanturn Thunderbolt vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Volcanion: 168-200 (55.8 - 66.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Fire Blast vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Lanturn: 84-99 (18.5 - 21.8%) -- possible 5HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Sludge Bomb vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Lanturn: 92-109 (20.2 - 24%) -- guaranteed 5HKO

252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Hidden Power Grass vs. 228 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Lanturn: 124-146 (27.6 - 32.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. Water Absorb Lanturn: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time *
252+ SpA Choice Specs Volcanion Hidden Power Grass vs. 228 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Lanturn: 124-146 (27.6 - 32.5%) -- guaranteed 4HKO

*Steam Eruption should restore between 27.9% and 33.2% of Lanturn's health.
Lanturn isn't even ranked on Electric in viability rankings. So can't really call that a counter because it isn't viable. Much less an AV lanturn.

Seo.

Nice guys always finish last...
Here we go again...

Tbh, i agree. Lanturns usage on electric is rare, even if it is used it usually runs leftovers with + Heal Bell + Toxic set. But even then, thats only for water, but i like the creativity ;)

Tbh, I like to think of creative things, and AV Lanturn is one of them. It may not be the most viable, obvious or best counter to Volcanion out there, but I think it works quite well.

I'm sure it works well, however if you read rule #5 on the original post
5. Make sure your Pokemon is viable. If your Pokemon isn't ranked in the viability rankings, then don't post it.
