Pelipper (Singles)

WIP, if anyone wants to co-write this with me I'd be more than happy!

[OVERVIEW]

-Drizzle allows Rain to be reliably set up which is beneficial for both Pelipper and teammates such as Kingdra (Swift Swim), Tapu Koko (Perfect accuracy Thunder), and Celesteela (Reduces damage from Fire-type attacks)

-While Politoed has access to support moves such as Encore and Hypnosis, Pelipper makes up for this in its ability to make more use of the Rain itself through Hurricane as well as having a reliable recovery in Roost while Politoed only has Rest

-Able to safely switch into Pheromosa and retaliate with Hurricane

-Able to safely switch into Mudsdale and retaliate with Scald/Hydro Pump

-Defensive Pelipper is able to revenge kill Marowak-Alola with some SpA investment, although it can't switch into Shadow Bone/Rock Slide

-Can be used defensively making use of Roost and slow U-Turns to bring in sweepers who would otherwise have to take a hit from hard switching

-Is able to make VoltTurn cores with Pokemon such as Pheromosa and Tapu Koko, the latter of which benefits from Rain with perfect accuracy Thunders

-Alternatively can be used offensively, making use of perfect accuracy Hurricanes and boosted Hydro Pumps/Scalds in the Rain. This is noteworthy as going the Modest route and investing and SpA allows it to handle bulky Pokemon such as Tapu Bulu which defensive Pelippers cannot

-In post-bank, Pelipper can form a great defensive core with Ferrothorn as they cover each other's weaknesses perfectly

-In post-bank, there will be more Pokemon who can take advantage of the Rain such as Mega-Swampert (Swampertite where?)

[SET]
name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Scald
move 2: Hurricane
move 3: U-Turn
move 4: Roost
item: Damp Rock/Leftovers/Eject Button
ability: Drizzle
nature: Calm
evs: 248 HP / 36 SpA / 220 SpD / 4 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

-Scald damage is boosted by Rain, in some matches Pelipper is able to stall by fishing for burns

-Hurricane has perfect accuracy in Rain, with 110BP, STAB, and the chance for confusion this is the primary attack in many circumstances

-Slow U-Turn allows Pelipper to tank a hit or see the opponent's switch before safely switching into an appropriate answer

-Roost keeps Pelipper alive so that it can be switched in again later to extend Rain turns. It can also be used to stall if the opponent is burnt.

Set Details
========

-Damp Rock is the item of choice if the team is built around Rain to maximise the number of Rain turns

-Otherwise, Leftovers or Eject Button are alternative considerations

-248 HP gives you an even HP number to maximise Roost recovery, 36 SpA ensures that Scald OHKOs 252HP Marowak-Alola, 220 SpD to maximise special bulk, 4 Spe to outspeed opposing Pelippers and other base 65s

-Depending on the needs of the team, a Bold, physically defensive spread could also work

[SET]
name: Offensive
move 1: Hydro Pump
move 2: Hurricane
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: U-Turn
item: Choice Specs/Choice Scarf
ability: Drizzle
nature: Modest/Timid
evs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

-Hydro Pump for maximum damage

-Hurricane has perfect accuracy in Rain, with 110BP, STAB, and the chance for confusion

-Slow U-Turn allows Pelipper to tank a hit or see the opponent's switch before safely switching into an appropriate answer

-Ice Beam to hit Dragon-types such as Drampa and Salamence

Set Details
========

-Choice Specs for hurting

-Choice Scarf could be used for zoom zoom but this prevents slow U-Turn

-252 SpA for maximum damage, Timid 252 Spe allows Pelipper to outspeed Adamant uninvested Tapu Bulu, 4 Def rather than HP to reduce damage from Stealth Rocks

Usage Tips
========

-Pelipper is slower than Torkoal and Gigalith meaning that Sun and Sand will override Rain if weather setters are lead with on both sides. Because of this, Pokemon such as Pheromosa are worth considering as an alternative lead (vs Torkoal U-Turn into Pelipper, vs Gigalith High Jump Kick) to either rid of their weather setter or at least override it with your own

Team Options
========

-Thunder users such as Tapu Koko, Magnezone, Xurkitree

-Swift Swimmers such as Kingdra, Golduck

-Pokemon which appreciate the nerf to Fire-type attacks such as Celesteela, Scizor

-Pokemon which can safely switch into Electric-type attacks which threaten Pelipper such as Marowak-A, Mudsale, Garchomp

-Post-bank: Mega-Swampert, Mega-Manectric, Raikou, Tornadus, Ferrothorn

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

-Taliwind

-Pelipper has Toxic but this is counterproductive as you'd be burning your own Rain turns

Checks and Counters
===================

-Gyarados sets up Dragon Dance for free

-Tapu Koko, Magnezone, Xurkitree can switch in and OHKO

-Ninetales-A has Freeze Dry and overrides Rain
