PU Rotom-Spin [QC 3/3] (GP 2/2)

[OVERVIEW]

Rotom-S has a niche because of its good defensive Electric / Flying typing, which gives it the ability to check common threats such as Oricorio-G, Gurdurr, Scyther, and Swanna. Its movepool, which includes moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Defog, gives it some more utility as a defensive Pokemon. Although its one of the few relevant hazard removers that are immune to both Spikes and Toxic Spikes, its weakness to Stealth Rock and lack of reliable recovery hinder its ability to switch in, which interferes with its role as a Defogger. In addition, it's pressured by common hazard setters like Froslass and Focus Sash Omastar. Weaknesses to prevalent Rock- and Ice-type moves further undermine its ability to check standard Fighting-types like Primeape and Hitmonchan. Furthermore, Oricorio-E is another notable adversary; despite Oricorio-E's slightly lower bulk, Taunt is its main selling point over Rotom-S, permitting Oricorio-E to shut down defensive hazard setters such as Weezing – something Rotom-S cannot do. On the offensive side, it is likewise overshadowed by Oricorio-E due to the latter's access to Hurricane, Roost, Taunt, Calm Mind, as well as Defog. As an offensive pivot, it is outclassed by Eelektross and Rotom-F, which have more coverage options that can be used to threaten counters. As a result of its numerous flaws, Rotom-S is often considered to be an unconventional Electric-type pick in general, but it finds a small place in the tier with its typing and defensive capability. It also faces competition from Lanturn, as Lanturn has an immunity to Electric-type moves and a resistance to Ice-type moves, greater special bulk, and access to Heal Bell. It should be kept in mind that having both Will-O-Wisp and Defog on the same moveset is Rotom-S's only niche over the previously mentioned Pokemon and is, for the most part, the only reason to use it.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Volt Switch is the preferred STAB Electric-type attack, as it enables Rotom-S to generate momentum for the team. Air Slash is another STAB attack, dealing super effective damage to Grass-types and Fighting-types such as Lilligant and Primeape. Will-O-Wisp can be used to burn common physical attackers such as Golurk and Primeape, reducing the damage of their moves and neutralizing them. It can also be used to pressure Rotom-S's checks such as Togedemaru and Mudsdale. Defog allows Rotom-S to remove any hazards. Thus, it expands Rotom-S's role as a defensive pivot. Though unreliable, Pain Split can heal Rotom-S while damaging the foe simultaneously. Because of Rotom-S's naturally low HP stat, this move can be fairly good. It can be used offensively as well, severely denting its counters and possibly even putting them in knockout range.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP EVs are invested to increase Rotom's bulk. 48 Speed EVs allow Rotom-S to outspeed Jolly Aggron and maximum invested neutral-natured base 60s such as Abomasnow and Pawniard. Combined with a Bold nature, the rest of the EVs are invested in Defense to maximize its bulk, allowing it to take physical hits more easily. Iapapa Berry gives Rotom-S a one-time heal of 50% of its maximum health, which will activate after Rotom-S switches into Stealth Rock three times. Alternatively, Leftovers is a passive form of recovery that lets Rotom-S avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch but is otherwise negligible.

Usage Tips
========

Rotom-S should be brought in early-game, as it can cripple common entry hazard setters such as Regirock with Will-O-Wisp as well as clear any entry hazards with Defog. Its tendency to be worn down easily throughout the match signifies the need to remove entry hazards as soon as possible so it is healthy enough to check Gurdurr, Primeape, and Me First Pinsir. Later in the match, Rotom-S should be brought in on slower Pokemon such as Audino or on resisted Grass-, Fighting-, or Flying-type moves to eliminate any remaining entry hazards. This may include, but is not limited to, Choice-locked Primeape's Close Combat and Swanna's Hurricane. Being immune to the Toxic Spikes, Rotom-S should be brought in directly on Weezing to quickly remove the aforementioned hazard before a teammate can be afflicted by poison. Although it has a great Defense stat, Rotom-S's appalling HP stat prevents it from taking more powerful physical hits such as Stoutland's Return and Zangoose's Facade. Therefore, be sure to switch it in only on weak to moderate physical attacks. Since Electric-types like Alolan Raichu tend to wall Rotom-S's attacking moves, predict this by going for a status move or pivot out, unless the foe has Lightning Rod or Volt Absorb. After it inevitably gets worn down from repeated attacks, Rotom-S should go for Pain Split, as it will recover a lot of health, especially against Pokemon with high HP stats such as Skuntank and Audino. When facing faster Taunt users such as Qwilfish or Defiant users such as Primeape, instead of going for Defog, predict and respond with a STAB move.

Team Options
========

In general, Fighting-types such as Hitmonchan are valuable teammates to Rotom-S because of their good type synergy with it. While Rotom-S can easily take a Supersonic Skystrike from Oricorio-G and can handle Weezing, Gurdurr and Primeape can deal with the common Ice-types that are the bane of Rotom-S's existence, with Primeape being able to form a solid VoltTurn core with Rotom-S. Other pivots like Mesprit and Silvally-Fairy can coincide with Rotom-S to gain momentum for the team. They also help with breaking specially defensive walls such as Lanturn and Audino. Clefairy and other specially defensive walls can take on the strong special attackers that would otherwise beat Rotom-S, including Drampa and Mesprit. Wish support from clerics such as Audino helps with Rotom's lackluster recovery. In return, Rotom-S can check the Fighting-types that threaten Audino, such as Hitmonchan, Primeape, and Gurdurr. Pokemon, such as Aurorus, Jynx, Omastar that can tear apart Rotom-S's checks and counters appreciate the removal of entry hazards and benefit greatly from Rotom-S's Defog. As such, Rotom-S would fit better on more balanced or offensive teams that value Defog support but can moreover harness its pivotal capabilities.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

An alternate EV spread of 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 SpD permits Rotom-S to take a +1 Breakneck Blitz from Timid Lilligant, 2HKOing back with Air Slash. It still allows Rotom-S to avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch after Leftovers recovery. Rest + Chesto Berry is a possible recovery option, but it can only effectively be used once, subsequently forfeiting its item slot; since Rotom-S does not have the room for Sleep Talk, it is not suggested either, since a sleeping Rotom-S cannot serve its primary role of being a Defogger. Rocky Helmet is another option for an item but it is generally inferior to Leftovers or Iapapa Berry, which supplement Rotom-S's recovery. It can get a little chip damage on physical attackers like Kangaskhan but eliminates its recovery altogether unless Pain Split is used. Specially defensive Rotom-S can be used, but is largely outshined by Lanturn in this role, with its only niches being Defog and the ability to check Lilligant to some degree. Choice Scarf is a possible but unrecommended set that is overshadowed by other Electric-types such as Togedemaru and Manectric, which both have a better Speed tier and greater offensive movepool. An offensive Defog set can be utilized, but it is outclassed by Oricorio-E, which can use a much stronger Flying-type STAB move in Hurricane, has reliable recovery in Roost, and has higher Speed. Swanna is another Fighting-type check and Defogger that overshadows Rotom-S in speed and offensive prowess. Substitute + Pain Split is yet another option Rotom-S can run. Toxic and Thunder Wave can be run too, as they enable Rotom-S to cripple its checks. However, Substitute, Toxic, and/or Thunder Wave are usually less useful and would mean that Rotom-S would have to replace a much more valuable utility move.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Lanturn is Rotom-S's greatest downfall. It not only prevents Rotom-S from pivoting, but it actually heals itself through Volt Absorb and takes advantage of Rotom-S's inability to deal significant damage to it. In general, offensive Electric-types take of advantage Rotom-S; examples include Manectric, Alolan Raichu, and Eelektross. Rotom-S can pivot on the latter two if they attempt to switch in.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Walls such as Clefairy and Audino can comfortably take all of Rotom-S's attacks and retaliate with Toxic or provide clerical support for their team. Clefairy can also spam Stealth Rock or set up with Calm Mind.

**Ice-types**: Powerful Ice-type wallbreakers such as Abomasnow, Froslass, and Aurorus will obliterate all Rotom-S sets. On the other hand, Rotom-S can threaten the former with STAB Air Slash.

**Rock-types**: Regirock can use Toxic on Rotom-S and proceed to set up Stealth Rock in spite of Rotom-S's numerous attempts to remove them, stalling Rotom-S until it succumbs to poison. Faster Rock-types like Lycanroc and Kabutops will either OHKO or easily 2HKO Rotom-S.

hi. i'm aware that this is still in wip, but the defensive set should look like this:

move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: Will-O-Wisp
move 4: Defog / Pain Split
item: Iapapa Berry / Leftovers
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold
evs: 248 HP / 228 Def / 32 Spe

also, remove the offensive set (not scarf) and include a team options section for each set. they both play differently, so they won't always have the same partners.

okay i implemented your suggestions but i did refine Rotom's speed investment on the defensive set so it can conveniently outspeed other threats without compromising too much of its bulk. other than that, i believe this is ready for qc

am check
[OVERVIEW]

  • Rotom-S has a niche as being an Electric-Flying type, which grants it a neutrality to Electric- type moves. Being neutral to Electrics as a mon that gets rather walled by other Electric-type Pokemon isn't really a niche. It's fine to talk about its unique typing, but more so in a way of how it allows it to check certain Pokemon like Gurdurr, Primeape, Grass-types, Flying-types, and the like. Because of its good defensive typing, it has the ability to check common threats such as Oricorio-G, Gurdurr, Lilligant, and Swanna.
  • Its movepool including utility moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Defog give it multidimensionality as a defensive check. Unfortunately, due to this versatility, it often suffers from the four-moveslot syndrome.
  • Due to its decent speed tier and good defensive stats, it can serve as either an offensive or defensive pivot.
  • Its weakness to Stealth Rock and lack of reliable recovery hinders its ability to switch in, which inhibits its role as a Defogger. However, it is one of the few relevant hazard removers that is immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes.
  • A weakness to the prevalent Ice-type further undermines its defensive capabilities. It faces acute competition from Lanturn as it has an immunity to Electric-type moves and a resistance to Ice-type moves, greater special bulk, and access to Heal Bell.
  • On the offensive side, it is generally outclassed by Oricorio-E which has access to Hurricane, Roost, and Calm Mind. And Taunt. Also mention how it faces severe competition with Eelektross as a bulky pivot, who has better coverage options to get around Electric immunities and access to Knock Off to cripple its checks.
  • Rotom-S gets worn down quite easily as it lacks reliable recovery.
Other than that, in general the way you'd want to go about making this look presentable is by prefacing this in stating how it's often overshadowed (since it's a very unconventional pick for a slot in general and is not considered very good, especially when compared to them) by Pokemon of similar roles, such as Lanturn, Eelektross, and other bulky Defoggers, while adding on how Rotom-Fan differentiates from them in the way that gives it a remotely viable niche.

[SET]
name: Defensive Appliance Appliance sounds weird, just say Defensive Pivot as that's the appropriate term for describing what this set does
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Air Slash
move 3: Will-O-Wisp
move 4: Pain Split / Defog
item: Leftovers / Iapapa Berry I think Defog and Iapapa being slashed first makes the most sense, as Defog in general gives it more role compression and is one of the main reasons that I'd consider using this (since as you said, it can pressure some hazard users like Weezing, Carracosta, and even Regirock to some extent) making it more useful overall
ability: Levitate
nature: Bold
evs: 248 HP / 212 Def / 48 Spe Up to you guys but I usually have ran 248 HP / 128 Def / 132 Spe to outspeed Hasty Abomasnow while still checking the physical attackers this set is meant to check

Moves
========

  • Volt Switch is the preferred STAB Electric-type attack as it enables Rotom-S to generate momentum for the team.
  • Air Slash is another STAB attack, dealing super effective damage to Pokemon such as Lilligant, Primeape, Gurdurr, and Hitmonchan. It also has a 30% flinch rate, which has its uses.
  • Will-O-Wisp can be used to burn common physical attackers such as Golurk and Primeape, reducing the damage of their moves and incapacitating them. Can also pressure some Electric-immune Pokemon switching in, such as Lanturn and Gastrodon, and can hit stuff like Togedemaru
  • Pain Split is an inferior, unreliable recovery move but finds its usefulness in that it can heal Rotom-S while damaging the opponent simultaneously. Thanks to Rotom's naturally low HP stat, this move can be fairly advantageous as it averages the user's and opponent's HP.
  • Defog is another viable option, as it allows Rotom-S to clear hazards off the field. Thus, it expands Rotom's role as a defensive pivot but compromises its lifespan.

Set Details
========

  • 248 HP EVs reduces the damage taken by Stealth Rock to a minimum.
  • 48 Speed EVs allows Rotom-S to outspeed standard Assault Vest Hitmonchan, Aggron, and max. invested neutral natured base 60s such as Abomasnow and Pawniard.
  • Combined with a Bold nature, the rest of the EVs are invested in Defense to maximize its bulk, allowing it to take physical hits more easily.
  • 0 IVs in Attack diminishes the damage taken from Foul Play. I don't think it's necessary to specify this, as all special attackers have their Attack IVs automatically set to 0 on the server
  • Levitate is Rotom's only ability, but is useless due to the fact that Rotom-S is already Electric-Flying type. Same as above. If an ability is useless then referencing it is just fluff.
  • Leftovers gives Rotom-S some form of recovery, letting it avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch.
  • Iapapa Berry is an alternative, giving Rotom-S a one time heal of 50%. This should be used with a set of 252 EVs invested in HP as the even number will enable Rotom-S to switch into Stealth Rock three times, which will then activate the item on the third switch-in.
  • An alternate EV spread of 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 SpDef permits Rotom-S to take a +1 Breakneck Blitz from Timid Lilligant. It still allows Rotom-S to avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch after Leftovers recovery but compromises some of its physical bulk.

Usage Tips
========

  • Rotom-S should be brought in early game, as it can cripple common hazard setters such as Ferroseed and Regirock with Will-O-Wisp as well as Defog away any hazards. Its tendency to be worn down easily throughout the match signifies the need to remove entry hazards as soon as possible so it can come in more often.
  • Later in the match, Rotom-S should be brought in on slower Pokemon or resisted Grass-, Fighting-, or Flying-type moves to remove any remaining entry hazards.
  • Being immune to the notorious Toxic Spikes, Rotom-S should be brought in directly on Weezing to quickly remove the aforementioned hazard before a teammate can be afflicted by poison.
  • Although it has a great Defense stat, Rotom-S's appalling HP stat prevents it from taking more powerful physical hits such as Stoutland's Return and Zangoose's Facade. Therefore, be sure to switch it in on weaker to moderate physical attacks. Also, it can be brought in on weaker to moderate special attacks thanks to its naturally good special bulk.
  • Since Electric-types tend to wall Rotom-S's attacking moves, predict this by going for a status move to cripple them on the switch.
  • When at low HP, go for Pain Split as it will recover a lot of health (especially against Pokemon with high HP stats such as Skuntank and Lanturn).
  • Rotom-S will often fail to beat specially defensive Pokemon so it should be primarily used as a Defogger and defensive check.
I think there should be more reference to high-priority threats that Rotom-S is worth being preserved for switching into/checking, like Primeape, Lilligant, and Me First Pinsir.

Team Options
========

  • Fighting-types in general are valuable teammates to Rotom-S because of their good type synergy. While Rotom-S can easily stomach a Supersonic Skystrike from Oricorio-G and can also handle Weezing, Gurdurr and Hitmonchan can deal with the plethora of common Ice-types that are the bane of Rotom's existence (except for Jynx). They also help with breaking specially defensive walls such as Lanturn and Cradily. Ferroseed can also handle Rock- and Ice- type threats in general.
  • Heal Bell and Wish support from clerics such as Audino helps with Rotom's lackluster recovery. In return, Rotom-S can check the Fighting-types that threaten Audino such as Hitmonchan, Primeape, and especially Gurdurr.
  • Pokemon that appreciate the removal of entry hazards will benefit greatly from Rotom-S's Defog.
  • Defensive Rotom-S fits more on bulkier teams, as its average bulk and lack of reliable recovery reduces its effectiveness at being a solid tank.
I'd like to see a section or two involving the mention of wallbreakers that appreciate hazard removal and its ability to generate momentum by bringing them safely into the field with its rather slow Volt Switches. Aurorus is a cool mention since it also appreciates the fighting resist and removing rocks, but also plenty of other things appreciates coming in safely like Eggy-A (also good at checking Electrics for Rotom), Pyroar, Kingler, and Stoutland (the latter two have an easier time breaking through specially bulky Pokemon that Rotom-Fan struggles to deal significant damage to). Otherwise, a section referencing more good Electric-, Ice-, and Rock-type checks in general is a good idea as well.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

  • Volt Switch is the preferred STAB option, giving Rotom-S the ability to escape undesirable situations while also gaining momentum.
  • Thunderbolt, the stronger STAB move, can be used instead but is generally less useful as it does not allow Rotom-S to effectively serve its role as being a scarf pivot.
  • Air Slash deals super effective damage to Grass-type Pokemon that resist Electric-type moves including Lilligant and Abomasnow, securing the OHKO on both after Stealth Rock damage.
  • Defog can be used as emergency hazard removal mid-game.
  • Trick invalidates Rotom-S's counters such as Lanturn or other defensive Pokemon like Clefairy.

Set Details
========

  • Maximum invested SpA gives Rotom-S the most amount of damage output.
  • 252 Speed EVs enhances Rotom's effectiveness of being a scarf pivot.
  • A Timid nature is recommended as it lets Rotom-S outspeed up to Scarf Pinsir and +1 Modest Lilligant. In contrast, a Modest nature increases Rotom's power, giving it a much likelier chance of 2HKOing Assault Vest Hitmonchan. Other than that, a Modest nature does not net many other notable KOs that a Timid nature wouldn't.
  • 0 IVs in Attack diminishes the damage taken from Foul Play.
  • No EVs were invested in HP to enable Rotom-S to switch into Stealth Rock up to four times.
  • Levitate is Rotom's only ability, but is useless due to the fact that Rotom-S is already Electric-Flying type, meaning it already has an immunity to Ground-type attacks.
  • Choice Scarf allows Rotom-S to outspeed common offensive threats like non-Scarf Pyroar, Swanna, Jynx, and unboosted Lilligant.

Usage Tips
========

  • Rotom-S is not a wallbrekaer i think this was a bit fluff since i'm not sure why you felt the need to clarify that to start off considering it's not specs or anything like that; rather, it should be used a consistent pivot throughout the match, threatening the Pokemon it checks and then proceeding to Volt Switch. Use it as a lure; bait in its counters and Volt Switch or double out into powerful wallbreakers.
  • It should only be brought in on expected Ground-, Grass-, or Flying- type attacks, as it hates switching into rocks and strong attacks despite its good bulk. It can also be brought in to revenge kill and pick off weakened threats.
  • Avoid Volt Switch if the opposing team carries an Electric immunity such as Lanturn or Gastrodon. Instead, go for Trick on the switch to incapacitate their defensive capabilities or Defog in needed.
  • Be wary of its longevity and try not to trick the scarf until the faster Pokemon have been sufficiently dealt with.
  • Also be apprehensive of super effective priority moves: for instance, Lycanroc-Day's Accelerock and Abomasnow's Ice Shard.

Team Options
========

  • Strong physical wallbreakers such as Stoutland and Kangaskhan that can break down Rotom-S's counters make excellent teammates as they benefit from Rotom's pivotal and Defog support.
  • Bulky Fighting-types such as Gurdurr and Hitmonchan can deter common Ice-type anti-leads including Abomasnow and Aurorus (but excluding Jynx). They also help deal with offensive Rock-type leads including Lycanroc Day and Aggron. In return, they appreciate Rotom's ability to check Weezing and Defog away Toxic Spikes.
  • Gastrodon in particular pairs nicely with Rotom-S, sharing good type synergy and covering each others' checks. It takes care of the Electric-types that try to exploit Rotom-S.
  • Scarf Rotom-S would fit better on more balanced or offensive teams that value Defog support, speed control, and a check to Ground- and Fighting- types.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

  • The RestoChesto combination is pretty viable in terms of a recovery option, yet it can only effectively be used once. Since Rotom-S does not have the room for Sleep Talk nor will Rest be particularly useful after its initial use, it is not suggested. A sleeping Rotom-S cannot serve its primary role of being a tenacious Defogger.
  • Rocky Helmet is another option for an item as it damages physical attackers on contact, but it is generally inferior to Leftovers or Iapapa Berry which supplement its recovery.
  • Specially Defensive Rotom-S can be used but it is largely outclassed by Lanturn in this role, with its only niches in being Defog and an ability to check Lilligant.
  • Choice Specs is a possible but unrecommended set as Rotom-S does not have the coverage to support it.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Rock-types**: Although Rotom-S can cripple slower Rock types such as Golem and Regirock with Will-O-Wisp, it dies to Lycanroc-Day. On this note, Stealth Rock furthers undermines its defensive aptitude. Kabutops isn't a switch in, but it is annoying in the same way that Lycanroc is in that it outspeeds the Pivot set and threatens it. Also, Stealth Rock isn't an appropriate mention, it's meant to reference Rock-type Pokemon.

**Ice-types**: Powerful Ice-type wallbreakers such as Abomasnow and Aurorus will obliterate all Rotom-S sets. On the other hand, Rotom-S can threaten the former with STAB Air Slash.

**Electric-types**: Rotom-S should be wary of Electivire and Manectric who benefit from its Electric-type attacks. Also, Rotom-S is setup fodder for Alolan Raichu. Eelektross, Lanturn, and Stunfisk generally counter it as well, but Scarf Rotom-S can get around the latter two with Trick There needs to be a much greater emphasis on talking about Lanturn and it should be the first mention, as that is likely the single best counter to Rotom-Fan in general due to Volt immunity and bulk and is only chipped significantly by Pain Split if Rotom is low enough and Lanturn is still high enough. Other than that, Electivire and Stunfisk aren't really relevant Pokemon in PU so they shouldn't really be mentioned.

**Specially defensive Pokemon**: Walls such as Cradily and Gastrodon can take all of Rotom-S's attacks and retaliate with their own STAB attacks or Toxic. Nevertheless, Scarf Rotom-S can invalidate them with a well-predicted Trick. Clefairy, Type Null, and Audino are far stronger and viable mentions that what you've got here and thus should be prioritized (and Gastrodon isn't really a special wall but works I suppose. Perhaps a seperate section? Albeit a "weak" one since Gastrodon does get chipped decently by burns+Air Slash but still a check). Also talk about how and why these three Pokemon also don't care about status

I would order the C&C list by: Electric-types, Specially Defensive Pokemon, Ice-types, and Rock-types in this particular order.
Regarding Scarf: I'm really skeptical about it having its own set as it doesn't seem to offer much unique or worthwhile from scarfers of similar roles. Togedemaru and Manectric perform such roles much better due to their extra speed (Toge can outspeed up to Scarf Primeape, Manectric can outspeed Sandslash-Alola under Hail and Kingler after an Agility), better coverage (Fire in Manectric's case, Steel in Togedemaru's), and Manectric offers Switcheroo much like how Rotom can Trick. Rotom's Speed doesn't allow for any of these traits, and while it can check Gurdurr, so can its pivot set, and Kabutops and Swanna seems to offer more Speed while also acting as emergency removals. Idk, it's just hard to justify this as a legit set when these are things.

got it. in respect to the scarf set, i'll leave it for now just in case people want it but i may remove it eventually

  • An alternate EV spread of 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 SpDef permits Rotom-S to take a +1 Breakneck Blitz from Timid Lilligant. It still allows Rotom-S to avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch after Leftovers recovery.

Usage Tips
========

Ensure that it healthy enough to handle the threats it is meant to check: Lilligant, Primeape, and Me First Pinsir, as well as others. bringing it in early and keeping it healthy to check things are kind of separate and opposite ideas here
  • Later in the match, Rotom-S should be brought in on slower Pokemon or resisted Grass-, Fighting-, or Flying-type moves to remove any remaining entry hazards.
  • Rotom-S will often fail to beat specially defensive Pokemon so it should be primarily used as a Defogger and defensive check. idk what this point is supposed to mean or why it's here

Team Options
========

In return, Rotom-S can check the Fighting-types that threaten Audino such as Hitmonchan, Primeape, and especially Gurdurr. this really doesnt care about heal bell
  • Pokemon that appreciate the removal of entry hazards will benefit greatly from Rotom-S's Defog, such as Alolan Exeggutor, Pyroar, Kingler, Stoutland, and other wallbreakers that can tear apart Rotom's checks and counters. i agree that mons which want removal appreciate rotom, but none of those mons are examples I'd use. Only one of them is even weak to rocks like wat ?_?
  • Defensive Rotom-S fits more on bulkier teams, as its average bulk and lack of reliable recovery reduces its effectiveness at being a solid tank. no, it doesnt. it fits much better on more offensively inclined teams that don't mind a defogger with mediocre defensive presence and longevity
overall im most worried about the content of this section, it's all kind of generic and short. at the very least mention that rotom needs ice checks and it goes well with severely grass weak mons like golem and mudsdale

Other Options
=============

  • The RestoChesto combination is pretty viable too positive, it's a waste of a move on a mon with 4mss in terms of a recovery option, yet it can only effectively be used once.
  • Choice Specs is a possible but unrecommended set as Rotom-S does not have the coverage to support it.
you can put scarf and generic offensive set here (probably the latter over specs because lol specs is total garb)

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Lanturn is undoubtedly Rotom-S's greatest downfall. Not only does it prevent Rotom-S from pivoting, it actually heals itself through Volt Absorb and can take advantage of Rotom's inability to deal significant damage to it. In general, offensive Electric-types abuse Rotom-S including Manectric, Alolan Raichu, and Eelektross.

**Specially defensive Pokemon**: Walls such as Clefairy and Audino can comfortably take all of Rotom-S's attacks and retaliate with Toxic or provide clerical support for their team. Nevertheless, Scarf Rotom-S can invalidate them with a well-predicted Trick. no more scarf trick

**Ice-types**: Powerful Ice-type wallbreakers such as Abomasnow and Aurorus will obliterate all Rotom-S sets. On the other hand, Rotom-S can threaten the former with STAB Air Slash.

**Rock-types**: Although Rotom-S can cripple slower Rock types such as Golem and Regirock with Will-O-Wisp, it dies to Lycanroc-Day and Kabutops. maybe rewrite the "it dies to" phrasing

  • Rotom-S has a niche as being an Electric-Flying type and because of its good defensive typing, it has the ability to check common threats such as Oricorio-G, Gurdurr, Lilligant, and Swanna.
  • Its movepool including utility moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Defog give it multidimensionality as a defensive check. Unfortunately, due to this versatility, it often suffers from the four-moveslot syndrome. (i disagree, you'd always be using will-o-wisp and defog, and i really can't think of anything else besides maybe toxic that i'd use)
  • Its weakness to Stealth Rock and lack of reliable recovery hinders its ability to switch in, which inhibits its role as a Defogger. However, it is one of the few relevant hazard removers that is immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes. (it also makes it a very shaky check to standard fighting-types, being easily pressured by both hitmonchan and primeape)
  • A weakness to the prevalent Ice-type further undermines its defensive capabilities. It faces acute competition from Lanturn as it has an immunity to Electric-type moves and a resistance to Ice-type moves, greater special bulk, and access to Heal Bell. Oricorio-E is another notable adversary; despite its slightly lower bulk, it can invalidate its counters through Taunt and can heal itself with Roost. (oricorio-e is also a far better pokemon if you want to check fighting-types) (oricorio-e also pressures several hazard setters, like defensive mesprit, clefairy, and ferroseed, with taunt, something that rotom-s struggles very hard against)
  • On the offensive side, it is likewise overshadowed by Oricorio-E which has access to Hurricane, Roost, Taunt, and Calm Mind. As an offensive pivot, it is predominantly outclassed by Eelektross and Rotom-F, which have more coverage options that can be used to threaten counters.
  • Rotom-S gets worn down quite easily as it lacks reliable recovery. (remove, you've already said this with the stealth rock weakness bullet point)
  • As a result of its numerous flaws and deficiencies, it is often considered to be an unconventional Electric-type pick in general, but finds a small niche in its typing and defensive aptitude. (basically it has the weirdest role compression that can work on a few teams)

Moves

  • Volt Switch is the preferred STAB Electric-type attack as it enables Rotom-S to generate momentum for the team.
  • Air Slash is another STAB attack, dealing super effective damage to Pokemon such as Lilligant, Primeape, Gurdurr, and Hitmonchan. It also has a 30% flinch rate, which has its uses. (i don't think mentioning the flinch is that important) (has to hit lilligant on the switch or it'll sleep you, which is very unlikely in itself; also a very shaky check to the still used z-hyper beam set)
  • Will-O-Wisp can be used to burn common physical attackers such as Golurk and Primeape, reducing the damage of their moves and incapacitating them. It can also be used to pressure Rotom's counters such as Lanturn, Eelektross, and Togedemaru. (nah, pressing will-o-wisp on lanturn or eelektross seems like a very bad idea. you give them a free chance to pivot by doing this)
  • Defog is the primary (?) as it allows Rotom-S to blow away any hazards. Thus, it expands Rotom's role as a defensive pivot but compromises its lifespan.
(makes it a slightly better defensive check to several pokemon too)

  • 248 HP EVs reduces the damage taken by Stealth Rock to a minimum.
  • 48 Speed EVs allows Rotom-S to outspeed Aggron and max. (maximum) invested neutral natured base 60s such as Abomasnow and Pawniard.
  • Combined with a Bold nature, the rest of the EVs are invested in Defense to maximize its bulk, allowing it to take physical hits more easily.
  • Leftovers gives Rotom-S some form of recovery, letting it avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch. (switch these two around to reflect the set)
  • Iapapa Berry is an alternative, giving Rotom-S a one time heal of 50%. This should be used with a set of 252 EVs invested in HP as the even number will enable Rotom-S to switch into Stealth Rock three times, which will then activate the item on the third switch-in.

It still allows Rotom-S to avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch after Leftovers recovery. (okay but does it then beat lilligant? how much damage do you do to a +1 lilligant)

Usage Tips

  • Rotom-S should be brought in early game, as it can cripple common hazard setters such as Ferroseed and Regirock with Will-O-Wisp as well as Defog away any hazards. Its tendency to be worn down easily throughout the match signifies the need to remove entry hazards as soon as possible so it is healthy enough to handle the threats it is meant to check: Lilligant, Primeape, and Me First Pinsir, as well as others. (ferroseed leech seeds you and can easily get up hazards vs you) (still don't like the lilligant mention, just talk about gurdurr, as it does a decent job of checking that)
  • Later in the match, Rotom-S should be brought in on slower Pokemon (like?) or resisted Grass-, Fighting-, or Flying-type moves to blow any remaining entry hazards. (expand with examples)
  • Being immune to the notorious Toxic Spikes (tspikes aren't really "notorious" unless qwilfish drops again), Rotom-S should be brought in directly on Weezing to quickly remove the aforementioned hazard before a teammate can be afflicted by poison.
(just a few examples on the weaker special attackers, though i'm really not sure on this bit)
  • Since Electric-types tend to wall Rotom-S's attacking moves, predict this by going for a status move to cripple them on the switch. (or try pivoting on anything that isn't lanturn)
  • When at low HP, go for Pain Split as it will recover a lot of health (especially against Pokemon with high HP stats such as Skuntank and Lanturn). (lanturn will legit just press ice beam and nuke you. you can however use this to severely dent lanturn)

Team Options

  • Fighting-types in general are valuable teammates to Rotom-S because of their good type synergy. While Rotom-S can easily stomach a Supersonic Skystrike from Oricorio-G and can also handle Weezing, Gurdurr and Hitmonchan (i wouldn't be using rotom-s if i had a better form of hazard removal in hitmonchan, primeape is a better mention because then it forms a nice volt-turn core) can deal with the plethora of common Ice-types (in terms of actual viable ice-types, there's only 2-3 that have high usage) that are the bane of Rotom's existence (except for Jynx) (jynx doesn't like taking a mach punch due to a low defensive stat so +1 gurdurr checks it, and so does choice scarf primeape). They also help with breaking specially defensive walls such as Lanturn and Audino. Ferroseed can also handle Rock- and Ice- type threats in general. (wait, this ferroseed mention is just chucked in at the end? also i'd mention stealth rock ferroseed, because the more common spikes set has bad synergy with defog)
  • Wish support from clerics such as Audino helps with Rotom's lackluster recovery. In return, Rotom-S can check the Fighting-types that threaten Audino such as Hitmonchan, Primeape, and especially Gurdurr.
  • Pokemon that appreciate the removal of entry hazards will benefit greatly from Rotom-S's Defog, such as Aurorus, Pyroar, Jynx, and other wallbreakers that can tear apart Rotom's checks and counters. As such, Rotom-S would fit better on more balanced or offensive teams that value Defog support but can moreover harness its pivotal capabilities. (pyroar offensively checks ice-types too)
  • Gastrodon in particular pairs nicely with Rotom-S, sharing good type synergy and covering each others' checks. It takes care of the Electric-types that try to exploit Rotom-S (besides Eelektross). (gastrodon actually struggles versus almost every electric-type. hidden power grass lanturn (although this is less common due to the rise in ferroseed), z-focus blast raichu at +2, taunt oricorio-e, z-blizzard rotom-f, etc.)
  • actual ferroseed point here, along with a clefairy mention as it deals with a lot of special attackers
  • fast choice scarf users, like mesprit and togedemaru, can form a fast-slow volt-turn core

Will-O-Wisp can be used to burn common physical attackers such as Golurk and Primeape, reducing the damage of their moves and neutralizing them. Defog is the primary move as it allows Rotom-S to blow away any hazards. Thus, it expands Rotom's role as a defensive pivot but compromises its lifespan. Pain Split is an inferior(I get what you're trying to say, but this implies it's inferior as a recovery move when compared to Defog), unreliable recovery move but finds its usefulness in that it can heal Rotom-S while damaging the opponent simultaneously. Thanks to Rotom's naturally low HP stat, this move can be fairly advantageous as it averages the user's and opponent's HP. It can be used offensively as well, severely denting its counters and possibly even putting them in range of a revenge kill(You can just say 'KO').

248 HP EVs reduces the damage taken by Stealth Rock to a minimum. (You don't need to metion the SR thing. Also you never mention the actual purpose for the HP, taking hits.)48 Speed EVs allows Rotom-S to outspeed Aggron (Specify Jolly)and maximum invested neutral natured base 60s such as Abomasnow and Pawniard. Combined with a Bold nature, the rest of the EVs are invested in Defense to maximize its bulk, allowing it to take physical hits more easily. Iapapa Berry gives Rotom-S a one time heal of 50%. Leftovers is a different(residual) form of recovery, letting it avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch but can be much too passive to be useful otherwise. An alternate EV spread of 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 SpDef permits Rotom-S to take a +1 Breakneck Blitz from Timid Lilligant, 2HKOing back with Air Slash. It still allows Rotom-S to avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch after Leftovers recovery.(Move this spread to OO, you aren't reliably beating Lilligant with it)

Usage Tips

Rotom-S should be brought in early game, as it can cripple common hazard setters such as Ferroseed (Not PU anymore)and Regirock with Will-O-Wisp as well as Defog away any hazards. Later in the match, Rotom-S should be brought in on slower Pokemon such as Gastrodon (Not PU anymore)or resisted Grass-, Fighting-, or Flying-type moves to blow any remaining entry hazards. This may include but is not limited to Alolan Exeggutor's Giga Drain(Not the best example, since it can just Draco you while you try to Defog), choice-locked Primeape's Close Combat, and Oricorio's(Again not the best example, since it can just Taunt you)Hurricane. Being immune to the Toxic Spikes, Rotom-S should be brought in directly on Weezing to quickly remove the aforementioned hazard before a teammate can be afflicted by poison. Although it has a great Defense stat, Rotom-S's appalling HP stat prevents it from taking more powerful physical hits such as Stoutland's(Not PU anymore) Return and Zangoose's Facade. Therefore, be sure to switch it in on weaker to moderate physical attacks. Also, it can be brought in on weaker to moderate special attackers including Kadabra and Swanna thanks to its naturally good special bulk. (Just remove this point, switching Rotom in is just wearing it down more, not to mention Kadabra 2HKOes after Rocks. Swanna would be a better example of a resisted hit)Since Electric-types (Such as?)tend to wall Rotom-S's attacking moves, predict this by going for a status move and/or pivot out unless, of course, they have Lightning Rod or Volt Absorb. After it inevitably gets worn down from repeated attacks, Rotom-S should go for Pain Split as it will recover a lot of health (especially against Pokemon with high HP stats such as Skuntank and Gastrodon(Not PU anymore)).
(Mention facing faster Taunt users like Oricorio-G and Qwilfish, and how you can instead predict and go for an attack)(Also watch out for things like Primeape switching in to the Defog to get a Defiant boost)
Team Options
========

Fighting-types(Such as?) in general are valuable teammates to Rotom-S because of their good type synergy. While Rotom-S can easily stomach a Supersonic Skystrike from Oricorio-G and can handle Weezing, Gurdurr and Primeape can deal with the common Ice-types that are the bane of Rotom's existence, with Primeape being able to form a solid VoltTurn core with Rotom-S. Other pivots like Mesprit and Silvally(What form?) can coincide with Rotom-S to gain momentum for the team. They also help with breaking specially defensive walls such as Lanturn and Audino. Ferroseed(Not PU anymore) can also handle Rock- and Ice- type threats in general while setting up Stealth Rock to cripple the opposing team. Clefariy and other specially defensive walls can take on the strong special attackers that would otherwise annihilate Rotom including Drampa and Pyroar. Wish support from clerics such as Audino helps with Rotom's lackluster recovery. In return, Rotom-S can check the Fighting-types that threaten Audino such as Hitmonchan, Primeape, and especially Gurdurr. Pokemon that appreciate the removal of entry hazards will benefit greatly from Rotom-S's Defog, such as Aurorus, Pyroar, Jynx, and other wallbreakers that can tear apart Rotom's checks and counters. Swanna is another Fighting-type check and Defogger, outclassing Rotom-S in speed and offensive prowess. SubSplit is yet another option Rotom-S can run. However, the addition of Substitute means that Rotom-S would have to replace a much more valuable utility move.

Implement this and it's QC 3/3 I guess. Also IDK if this is more of a GP thing, but don't use casual words like "sadly" and undoubtedly", they add nothing to the context and just lower its quality. Similar can be said about words like "multidimensional" and "predominant", which just over complicate the text. This is meant to be read by new, and often young players, and if I had to Google search what they meant, I doubt they'll know. The words I changed to red, and probably more that I missed, all fall under one of these two categories and should be replaced, or just outright removed in some cases.

Volt Switch is the preferred STAB Electric-type attack, (AC) as it enables Rotom-S to generate momentum for the team. Air Slash is another STAB attack, dealing super effective damage to Grass-types and Fighting-types such as Lilligant and Primeape on the switch. Will-O-Wisp can be used to burn common physical attackers such as Golurk and Primeape, reducing the damage of their moves and neutralizing them. It can also be used to pressure Rotom-S's checks, (AC) such as Togedemaru and Mudsdale. Defog is the primary move as it (since it's not the first move on the set, it's not the primary move) allows Rotom-S to blow away clear any hazards. Thus, it expands Rotom's role as a defensive pivot, (AC) but shortens its lifespan(how does Defog shorten its lifespan?). Pain Split is an unreliable recovery move, (AC) but finds its usefulness in that it can heal Rotom-S while damaging the opponent simultaneously. Because of Rotom-S's naturally low HP stat, this move can be fairly good, (AC) as it averages the user's and opponent's HP. It can be used offensively as well, severely denting its counters and possibly even putting them in knockout range.

Set Details
========

248 HP EVs are invested to increase Rotom-S's bulk. 48 Speed EVs allows allow Rotom-S to outspeed Jolly Aggron and maximum invested neutral natured base 60s such as Abomasnow and Pawniard. Combined with a Bold nature, the rest of the EVs are invested in Defense to maximize its bulk, allowing it to take physical hits more easily. Iapapa Berry gives Rotom-S a one time heal of 50% of its health. This should be used with a set of 252 EVs invested in HP, (AC) as the even number will enable Rotom-S to switch into Stealth Rock three times, which will then activate the item Iapapa Berry on the third switch-in. Leftovers is a residual passive form of recovery, letting it Rotom-S avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch, (AC) but can be much too passive to be useful otherwise.

Usage Tips
========

Rotom-S should be brought in early game, as it can cripple common hazard setters such as Regirock with Will-O-Wisp as well as Defog away any hazards. Its tendency to be worn down easily throughout the match signifies the need to remove entry hazards as soon as possible so it is healthy enough to handle the threats it is meant to check: Gurdurr, Primeape, and Me First Pinsir, as well as some others. Later in the match, Rotom-S should be brought in on slower Pokemon such as Audino or resisted Grass-, Fighting-, or Flying-type moves to blow Defog away any remaining entry hazards. This may include, (AC) but is not limited to, (AC) choice Choice-locked Primeape's Close Combat and Swanna's Hurricane. Therefore, be sure to switch it in on weaker weak to moderate physical attacks. Since Electric-types including like (with one example, like sounds better, but not a must) Alolan Raichu tend to wall Rotom-S's attacking moves, predict this by going for a status move and/or pivoting out, (AC) unless they have the foe has Lightning Rod or Volt Absorb. After it inevitably gets worn down from repeated attacks, Rotom-S should go for Pain Split, (AC) as it will recover a lot of health, (AC) (especially against Pokemon with high HP stats such as Skuntank and Audino). When facing faster Taunt users such as Qwilfish or Defiant users such as Primeape, instead of going for Defog, predict and respond with a STAB move.

Team Options
========

In general, Fighting-types in general such as Hitmonchan are valuable teammates to Rotom-S because of their good type synergy with it. While Rotom-S can easily take a Supersonic Skystrike from Oricorio-G and can handle Weezing, Gurdurr and Primeape can deal with the common Ice-types that are the bane of Rotom's existence, with Primeape being able to form a solid VoltTurn core with Rotom-S. Other pivots like Mesprit and Silvally-Fairy can coincide with Rotom-S to gain momentum for the team. They also help with breaking specially defensive walls such as Lanturn and Audino. Generally, Ferroseed can also handle Rock- and Ice-type (removed space inbetween ice and type) threats in general while setting up Stealth Rock to cripple the opposing team. Clefairy and other specially defensive walls can take on the strong special attackers that would otherwise beat Rotom-S, (AC) including Drampa and Pyroar. Wish support from clerics such as Audino helps with Rotom's lackluster recovery. In return, Rotom-S can check the Fighting-types that threaten Audino, (AC) such as Hitmonchan, Primeape, and Gurdurr. Pokemon such as Aurorus, Pyroar, Jynx, and other wallbreakers that can tear apart Rotom-S's checks and counters that appreciate the removal of entry hazards and will benefit greatly from Rotom-S's Defog, such as Aurorus, Pyroar, Jynx, and other wallbreakers that can tear apart Rotom's checks and counters. As such, Rotom-S would fits better on more balanced or offensive teams that value Defog support but can moreover harness its pivotal capabilities.

Other Options

An alternate EV spread of 248 HP / 192 Def / 68 SpDef 248 HP EVs, 192 Defense EVs, and 68 Special Defense EVs permits Rotom-S to take a +1 Breakneck Blitz from Timid Lilligant, 2HKOing back with Air Slash. It still allows Rotom-S to avoid the 2HKO from Primeape's Stone Edge and Hitmonchan's Ice Punch after Leftovers recovery. The RestoChesto ChestoRest item combination is a possible recovery option, yet but it can only effectively be used once, (AC) subsequently forfeiting its item slot. Since Rotom-S does not have the room for Sleep Talk nor will Rest be particularly useful after its initial use, it is not suggested. A sleeping Rotom-S cannot serve its primary role of being a (removed double space) Defogger. Rocky Helmet is another option for an item, (AC) as it damages physical attackers on contact, but it is generally inferior to Leftovers or Iapapa Berry, (AC) which supplement its recovery. It can get a little chip damage on physical attackers like Kangaskhan, (AC) but eliminates its recovery altogether, (AC) (unless Pain Split is used). Specially Defensive Rotom-S can be used, (AC) but it is largely outshined by Lanturn in this role, with its only niches in being Defog and an the ability to check Lilligant to some degree. Choice Scarf is a possible but unrecommended set that is overshadowed by other Electric-types such as Togedemaru and Manectric, who which all have a better speed Speed tier and greater offensive move pool movepools. An offensive Defogger Defog set can be utilized but is outclassed by Oricorio-E, (AC) who which can use a much stronger Flying-type STAB move in Hurricane, has reliable recovery in Roost, and has higher speed. Swanna is another Fighting-type check and Defogger, (RC) that overshadowing overshadows Rotom-S in speed and offensive prowess. SubSplit Substitute + Pain Split is yet another option Rotom-S can run. Toxic and Thunder Wave can be run too, as they enable Rotom-S to cripple its checks. However, Substitute, Toxic, and/or Thunder Wave are usually less useful and would mean that Rotom-S would have to replace a much more valuable utility move.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Electric-types**: Lanturn is Rotom-S's greatest downfall. It Not not only does it prevents Rotom-S from pivoting, but it actually heals itself through Volt Absorb and can take advantage of Rotom's inability to deal significant damage to it. In general, offensive Electric-types abuse take advantage of (abuse is a negative word; for the future, never use it) Rotom-S; (ASC) including examples include Manectric, Alolan Raichu, and Eelektross. Rotom-S can pivot on the latter two if they attempt to switch in.

**Specially Defensive Pokemon**: Walls such as Clefairy and Audino can comfortably take all of Rotom-S's attacks and retaliate with Toxic, provide clerical support for their team. (RC and AP) and/or Additionally, Clefairy can spam Stealth Rock or set up with Calm Mind.

**Ice-types**: Powerful Ice-type wallbreakers such as Abomasnow, Froslass, and Aurorus will obliterate all Rotom-S sets. Rotom-S can threaten the former with STAB Air Slash.

**Rock-types**: Regirock can Toxic Rotom-S and proceed to set up Stealth Rock in spite of Rotom's numerous attempts to remove them, stalling it Rotom-S until it succumbs to poison to death. Faster Rock-types like Lycanroc and Kabutops will either OHKO or easily 2HKO Rotom-S.

Rotom-S has a niche as being an Electric-Flying Electric / Flying type and, (AC) because of its good defensive typing, it has the ability to check common threats such as Oricorio-G, Gurdurr, Scyther, and Swanna. Its move pool movepool, which includes moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Defog, give gives (subject is movepool) it some more utility as a defensive check Pokemon. Weaknesses to prevalent Rock- and Ice-type moves further undermines undermine its defensive capacity ability to check standard Fighting-types like Primeape and Hitmonchan. (space) Oricorio-E is another notable adversary (You did not mention Rotom-S facing competition from anything, so I reworded this sentence) In addition, Rotom-S faces competition from Oricorio-E; (RC and ASC) Despite despite its Oricorio-E's slightly lower bulk, Taunt is its main selling point over Rotom-S, permitting Oricorio-E to shut down defensive hazard setters such as Weezing, something Rotom-S cannot do. The ChestoRest item combination Rest + Chesto Berry is a possible recovery option, but it can only effectively be used once, subsequently forfeiting its item slot; (SC) since Rotom-S does not have the room for Sleep Talk nor will Rest be particularly useful after its initial use either, it is not suggested, (comma) as a sleeping Rotom-S cannot serve its primary role of being a Defogger. Rocky Helmet is another option for an item as it damages physical attackers on contact, but it is generally inferior to Leftovers or Iapapa Berry, which supplement its Rotom-S's recovery. Choice Scarf is a possible but unrecommended set that is overshadowed by other Electric-types such as Togedemaru and Manectric, who which both have a better Speed tier and greater offensive movepools movepool. An offensive Defog set can be utilized, but it is outclassed by Oricorio-E, (AC) which can use a much stronger Flying-type STAB move in Hurricane, has reliable recovery in Roost, and has higher Speed.

===================
