Scrafty (revamp) [GP 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Scrafty's unique combination of Fake Out, Intimidate, and Quick Guard makes it useful as an offensive supporter. It also has great natural bulk while also having decent offensive presence with STAB Knock Off, which makes it difficult to switch into. While Scrafty's low base Speed leaves it outsped by most of the metagame, it does allow it to function well under Trick Room. Scrafty faces competition from Hitmontop, distinguishing itself with its ability to beat Aegislash reliably, but, unlike Hitmontop, it lacks access to Wide Guard or a powerful STAB move such as Close Combat. Furthermore, Scrafty's relatively low Attack stat prevents it from picking up the same KOs that other Fighting-types in the tier can, and it is also very weak to Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir, Mega Diancie, and Azumarill, which are very common and hard to switch in to.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Fake Out allows Scrafty's partner to set up or to attack more easily. Drain Punch allows Scrafty to recover health, while Knock Off provides useful utility to remove items from Pokemon and limit switches. Quick Guard shields Scrafty and its partner from Prankster Thunder Wave and Talonflame's Brave Bird as well as other priority attacks such as Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch. Detect can also be very useful for Scrafty, as it shields it while its partner can remove potential threats, as well as scout for attacks that may threaten it.

Set Details
========

Sitrus Berry allows Scrafty to recover 25% of its HP, while Lum Berry can be used to absorb a status condition once, specifically burns. Intimidate allows Scrafty to weaken physical attackers and increase Scrafty's and its partner's physical bulk. Maximum HP investment and 44 Defense EVs, alongside a Relaxed nature, allow Scrafty to survive a Secret Sword from Life Orb Keldeo and also be slower than Aegislash to hit it in Blade forme, while also maximizing its general bulk. The remaining EVs are put into Attack to increase Scrafty's mediocre damage output.

Usage Tips
========

Scrafty should be utilized to support other Pokemon on the team, primarily through Fake Out and Intimidate. Use Fake Out to give teammates free turns to attack or set up. Switch in frequently to utilize Intimidate and weaken physical attackers. Use Knock Off to remove the foes' items, crippling the opposing team. Avoid being burned and sparingly switch in on potential burns unless Scrafty's item is Lum Berry, although Scrafty can still be useful while burned, as its primary function is to support its team rather than attack the enemy directly.

Team Options
========

Scrafty pairs well with Pokemon that appreciate a free turn such as Substitute users and Trick Room or Tailwind setters. Steel- and Fire-types that can switch into the Fairy-type moves that threaten Scrafty are essential; some examples of these are Heatran, Talonflame, Volcarona, and Volcanion. Scrafty appreciates Pokemon that beat opposing Fighting-types; Azumarill and Mega Diancie help with both of these and really appreciate Scrafty's Quick Guard and Intimidate support. Setup sweepers such as Azumarill and Volcarona are given opportunities to set up with the combination of Fake Out + Intimidate as well as Quick Guard, which helps to shield them from priority moves that try to pick them off.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A Trick Room attacker set with Life Orb and three attacks is a viable option that allows Scrafty to take advantage of its low Speed and its combination of Fake Out and Intimidate, which makes setting Trick Room much easier. Assault Vest could be used to improve Scrafty's already nice special bulk. Other move options such as Iron Head or Poison Jab to hit Diancie and Azumarill, respectively; Ice Punch to hit Landorus-T; and Stone Edge to hit Mega Charizard Y could be considered. Super Fang or Snarl can be used to cripple switch-ins without worrying about Intimidate or a potential burn. Low Kick is an option to be used over Drain Punch to hit certain Pokemon harder but others for less damage, notably picking up an OHKO on Terrakion.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Fairy-type Pokemon**: Scrafty is 4x weak to Fairy and is OHKOed by the likes of Sylveon and Mega Diancie, which are also able to reliably tank both of Scrafty's STAB moves.

**Fighting-type Pokemon**: Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Terrakion can threaten Scrafty with their powerful STAB moves, and even if Scrafty can reliably take one hit, its options to hit them back are limited.

**Flying-type Pokemon**: Flying-type attacks threaten Scrafty, and Pokemon such as Talonflame can deal major damage to Scrafty, although it can block Brave Bird with Quick Guard.

**Intimidate and Burns**: As Scrafty is a physical attacker, it is threatened by potential burns from the likes of Rotom-W and Intimidate users such as Landorus-T, which lower its Attack stat, forcing it to switch in order to apply any pressure. However, Lum Berry variants are not bothered by a potential burn.

**Quick Guard**: Quick Guard stops Scrafty's Fake Out, giving the foe the opportunity to attack Scrafty's partner. Scrafty is slower than most Quick Guard users, which means its Fake Out will often be blocked by Quick Guard.

  • (overview) Mention its weakness to common Fairy-types like Mega Diancie, Mega Gardevoir, and Azumarill, which is significant b/c they are all very hard to switch into
  • (moves) USE DETECT, IMPRISON KLEFKI IS A SERIOUS THREAT (unfortunately im serious)
  • (team options) Give a specific mention to Azumarill, Fake Out and Intimidate it give it room to set up and QG prevents faster priority like Talon BB from sniping it
  • (team options) Add Volcarona to the list of Fire-types because Intimidate + QG + Fake Out work really really well with it as well as the usual Fire-type stuff
  • (team options) Specify common Goggles users
  • (other options) Stone Edge is really good coverage for teams weak to CharY
  • (OO) Poison Jab hits similar targets as Iron head but trades the ability to OHKO Diancie for massive damage on Azu. Considering this could prevent it from setting up and isn't only applicable in TR I'd replace IH with this.
  • (OO) Snarl is pretty good on AV sets

good stuff dude, tag me/hmu on PS when implemented n_n

Checking this to take my mind off of Game 7 starting in 3 hours
  • [Overview] On the surface, Scrafty seems pretty similar to Hitmontop, so mention some of the things that separate them from each other (ability to beat Aegislash vs Wide Guard & access to Close Combat as a STAB being the obvious ones)
  • [Set] Switch to Relaxed > Impish so that Scrafty underspeeds Aegis to hit it in Blade forme.
  • [Moves] Your description still says Protect > Detect, so don't forget to change that
  • [Set Details] Mention that Lum works well because Scrafty is often dealt with by burning it rather than attacking it
  • [Set Details] Change the word Impish to Relaxed to reflect the change in set
  • [Team Options] Something to beat Fighting-types - Azu, Mega Garde also especially appreciate Quick Guard support
  • [Other Options] Low Kick > Drain Punch hits harder vs some threats, weaker vs others. Main notable difference is the OHKO on Terrak
  • [Other Options] "Other move options such as Iron Head or Poison Jab to hit..."
  • [Checks and Counters] the tag should be **Intimidate and Burns**, and be sure to specify that Lum variants can shrug off that first burn.
  • [Checks and Counters] In the **Quick Guard** tag, also mention that most users of the move will be faster than Scrafty, which is relevant as Fake Out and Quick Guard have the same priority. It's not like Weavile who can just ignore Quick Guard users as it will move first anyway.
Tag / PM me when implemented so that I can give this one last look over!

you might notice that I've been fixing every specific mention of Trick Room that you make; this is because the main set isn't a pure TR-only mon.

ov: this overview doesn't really flow that great much, it looks like you're just listing a bunch of stuff. Also, simply saying that it's a good "utlity" pick doesn't tell me much; what exactly is its role specifically? why would i pick this mon? Scrafty, as a whole, is generally a supportive Pokemon with intim, knocks, qg... with some offensive presence. Also note that Knock Off is also a supportive tool as much as it is an offensive one, so list it too when you mention Scrafty's utility.

- "Scrafty's low base Speed allow it to function effectively under Trick Room, but also hinder it outside of Trick Room." - Rephrase this sentence in order to something that talks about its low speed first and its ability to possibly function in tr as a bonus. Scrafty being usable in TR isn't that much of a point since it's not an attacker but a supporter due to its general passiveness. also, be specific about why its low speed hinders it: it leaves Scrafty outrun by most of the metagame.
- "Scrafty provides great utility with its access to Fake Out, Intimidate, and Quick Guard that can allow teammates opportunities to either set-up with stat boosts or set Field Conditions such as Trick Room." - you don't need to get that specific. also, note that scrafty's role is basically to provide safer opportunities AND weaken the opposition with Intimidate and Knocks.

moves:
- "Fake Out allows Scrafty to immobilize one of the opposing Pokemon, allowing Scrafty's partner to set up with boosting moves, attack an opposing Pokemon or set up Trick Room." - this can be rephrased to basically say "giving its partner free turns to either freely attack or set up"
- fix the mention that Drain Punch is there because it "has moderate power" because picking something because of that reason is pretty dumb. Also, saying that it's "the primary Fighting STAB move" is fluff and not something you have to say; every player worth their shit should know that without having to read it. Rephrase it to something like "Drain Punch is a stab move that lets scrafty recover heath while still hitting moderately hard."
- Same thing with Knocks, you don't have to say that it's the "Dark STAB move of choice" because everyone knows that it is; just say what the move does for scrafty as a whole and move on.
- Quick Guard is a great 4th move option for Scrafty as it shields..." - basically the same thing as above two; it doesn't tell me anything i don't already know through common sense or looking.

sd:
- "Sitrus Berry adds to Scrafty's survivability" - how? say that it gives some health, which is how it adds to that
- "... Lum allows Scrafty to work as a potential status absorber. Scrafty is often dealt with just by burning it so Lum helps to alleviate that." - condense these. also, instead of saying that status absorber thing, just say that it allows scrafty to handily take status once, in particular burns aiming to weaken its offensive presence.
- "Maximum HP investment is preferred so that Scrafty can better survive hits. A Relaxed nature with 44 EVs allows Scrafty to survive a Secret Sword from Life Orb Keldeo 100% of the time and also underspeed Aegislash to hit it in Blade form." - Condense these two sentences, they talk about the same thing basically: Scrafty's investment into bulk.

usage tips: don't get overly specific immediately with the fake out thing. first, say that, generally speaking, fake out gives its teammates free turns before going into the more specific example of using said free turns to set up. don't just mention trick room specifically too.

also mention that even when burned, scrafty is still useful as it's not mainly an attacker but a supporter with knocks, fake out, intim, qg... and mention using quick guard for protecting boosted teammates from priority.

to:
- remove the sleep switchins thing. preferring a teammate that can switch in on spore isn't something exclusive to Scrafty
- "Set up sweepers such as Azumarill are given opportunities to set up with the combination of Fake Out + Intimidate as well as Quick Guard helps to shield Azumarill THEM from priority moves that try to pick it THEM off" - Azumarill isn't the only set up sweeper in existence so saying azumarill specifically on those instances isn't ideal. Think of other set up mons too; Volcarona's a good example.
- "Scrafty pairs well with Trick Room setters such as Cresselia, Mega Gardevoir, Hoopa-Unbound and Jirachi." - Instead of just TR setters, say that Scrafty pairs well with anything that appreciates a free turn to set up such as sub users, twind setters, and tr setters, etc.

checks and counters
- change all of the type tags to "x-type Pokemon"
- fairies: instead of saying "heavily pressured" say that it's OHKOd by their stabs because lol
- on the flying tag, just say that Talonflame can deal major damage with BB. Being forced to use Quick Guard doesn't exactly limit it since that's exactly what it should be doing against Talonflame in the first place. lol
- intim and burns: give examples of mons that have intim and can burn.
- quick guard: take out the specific mention of Trick Room :{|}

Fake Out allows Scrafty's partner to get a free turn, whether to set up or to freely attack. Drain Punch allows Scrafty to recover health, (AC) while Knock Off provides useful utility to remove items from Pokemon and limit switchins (If you mean it limits the Pokemon switching in then it's "switch-ins". If you mean it limits the opponent's ability to switch, then it's "switches in"). Quick Guard shields Scrafty and its teammate from priority attacks such as Prankster Thunder Waves, (RC) and Talonflame's Brave Bird, (AC) as well as other priority attacks such as Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch. Detect can also be very useful for Scrafty, (AC) as it Detect shields it while its partner can remove potential threats to Scrafty, as well as scout for attacks that may threaten it.

Set Details

Sitrus Berry allows Scrafty to recover 25% of its HP, (AC) while Lum Berry allows Scrafty to absorb a status once, specifically burns. Intimidate allows Scrafty to cripple physical attackers and increase Scrafty and its partners physical bulk. (It doesn't increase their bulk, but reduces the foes' Attack. Consider rewriting as something like: "...and allows Scrafty and its partner to more easily take physical attacks.") Maximum HP investment and a Relaxed nature with 44 Defense EVs allows Scrafty to survive a Secret Sword from Life Orb Keldeo 100% of the time and also underspeed Aegislash to hit it in Blade form while maximizing its Scrafty's general bulk. The remaining EVs are put in Atk Attack to increase Scrafty's (Add apostrophe) mediocre damage output.

Usage Tips

Scrafty should be utilized to support other Pokemon on the team, primarily through its Fake Out and Intimidate. Use Fake Out to give teammates free turns to attack or set up. A Trick Room attacker set with Life Orb and 3 attacks is a viable option for Scrafty that allows it to take advantage of its low Speed and its combination of Fake Out and Intimidate that makes setting Trick Room much easier. (I don't play DOU so I got a bit confused. I would strongly consider rewording this: "A Life Orb attacker set with 3 attacks is a viable option on Trick Room teams, as it takes advantage of Scrafty's low Speed and its combination of Fake out and Intimidate, which make setting Trick Room much easier.) An Assault Vest could be used to improve Scrafty's (Add apostrophe) already nice special bulk. Super Fang or Snarl can be used to cripple switch-ins (Add hyphen) while negating Intimidate or a potential burn. (Those moves don't negate Intimidate or a potential burn, they simply work in spite of them. Maybe something like "...through opposing Intimidate and burns"?) Low Kick is an option to be used over Drain Punch to hit certain Pokemon harder but others for less damage, notably picking up an OHKO on Terrakion.

Checks and Counters

**Flying-type Pokemon (Add hyphen, use lowercase t)**: Flying-type attacks threaten Scrafty and Pokemon such as Talonflame can deal major damage to Scrafty although Scrafty can block Brave Bird with Quick Guard. (This reads pretty awkwardly, as Talonflame is the only user of Gale Wings. Maybe just rewrite as: "...can deal major damage, although Scrafty can block Talonflame's Brave Bird with Quick Guard.")

**Intimidate and Burns**: As Scrafty is a physical attacker, (AC) it is threatened by potential burns from the likes of Rotom-W or and Intimidate users such as Landorus-T lowering its Attack stat, forcing it to switch in order to apply any pressure although Lum Berry variants are not bothered by a potential burn. (Reads pretty awkwardly, also some confusion. The forcing out is only applicable to the Intimidate, I think, and the Lum Berry is only applicable to the burns, so maybe rewrite as: "As Scrafty is a physical attacker, it is threatened by Intimidate users such as Landorus-T that lower its Attack stat, forcing it to switch in order to apply any pressure, and by potential burns from the likes of Rotom-W, although Lum Berry variants are not bothered by one burn.")

**Quick Guard**: Quick Guard stops Scrafty's Fake Out from connecting, giving its opponents (I think?) the opportunity to attack Scrafty's partner. Scrafty is slower than most Quick Guard users, (AC) which means its Fake Out will often be blocked by Quick Guard.

**Fairy-type Pokemon**:Scrafty is 4x weak to Fairy and is OHKOed by the likes of Sylveon and Mega Diancie, which are also able to reliably tank both of Scrafty's STAB moves.

**Fighting-type Pokemon**:Fighting-types such as Keldeo and Terrakion can threaten Scrafty with their powerful STAB moves, and even if Scrafty can reliably take one hit, its options to hit them back are limited.

**Flying-type Pokemon**:Flying-type attacks threaten Scrafty, and Pokemon such as Talonflame can deal major damage to Scrafty, although it can block Brave Bird with Quick Guard.

**Intimidate and Burns**: As Scrafty is a physical attacker, it is threatened by potential burns from the likes of Rotom-W or and Intimidate users such as Landorus-T, which lower its Attack stat, forcing it to switch in order to apply any pressure although Lum Berry variants are not bothered by a potential burn.

**Quick Guard**: Quick Guard stops Scrafty's Fake Out, giving the foe the opportunity to attack Scrafty's partner. Scrafty is slower than most Quick Guard users, which means its Fake Out will often be blocked by Quick Guard.

i'll look at the amcheck later and if i forget (like if i dont post it in a couple of days) tag or vm me because i forget things quite easily lol

[OVERVIEW]

Scrafty's unique combination of Fake Out, Intimidate, and Quick Guard makes it useful as an offensive supporter. Scrafty It also has great natural bulk while also having decent offensive presence with STAB Knock Off, which makes it Scrafty difficult to switch into. While (just changing up sentence structure bc right now most of these sentences start with Scrafty) Scrafty's low base Speed leaves it outsped by most of the metagame, but it does allow it to function well under Trick Room. Scrafty faces competition from Hitmontop, distinguishing itself with its ability to beat Aegislash reliably, (AC) but, unlike Hitmontop, it lacks not having access to Wide Guard or a powerful STAB move such as Close Combat. However, Furthermore, Scrafty's relatively low Attack stat prevents it from picking up the same KOs that other Fighting-types in the tier can, and it is while also being very weak to Fairy-types such as Mega Gardevoir, Mega Diancie, and Azumarill, (AC) which are very common and hard to switch in to.

Moves

Fake Out allows Scrafty's partner to set up or to attack more easily. Drain Punch allows Scrafty to recover health, while Knock Off provides useful utility to remove items from Pokemon and limit switches ins. Quick Guard shields Scrafty and its partner from priority attacks such as Prankster Thunder Wave (RC) and Talonflame's Brave Bird as well as other priority attacks such as Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch. Detect can also be very useful for Scrafty, as it shields it while its partner can remove potential threats, as well as scout for attacks that may threaten it.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

========

Setup sweepers such as Azumarill and Volcarona are given opportunities to set up with the combination of Fake Out + Intimidate as well as Quick Guard, (AC) (keep comma but remove comments) which helps to shield them from priority moves that try to pick them off.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Other move options such as Iron Head or Poison Jab to hit Diancie and Azumarill, respectively; (ASC) Ice Punch to hit Landorus-T; (ASC) (just to make it easier to read) and Stone Edge to hit Mega Charizard Y could be considered. Super Fang or Snarl can be used to cripple switch-ins without worrying about Intimidate or a potential burn. Low Kick is an option to be used over Drain Punch to hit certain Pokemon harder but others for less damage, notably picking up an OHKO on Terrakion.
