Other Metagames Surge Surfer Zekrom (Peak 1504)

Artemis04

formerly Zyniti

Introduction

I have decided to take one of my teams and release them into the public. I normally am very restrictive with these teams, and who they go to, but I sometimes accidentally leak them.

This is my first time making an RMT, so I apologize if it isn't exactly a Shakespear play.

This team works due to the extreme strength of Zekrom with band and the Electric Terrain set up. It can also swap into a defensive, stalling team if Zekrom faints. The team is easy to understand, easy to use and depending on the opponent, difficult to counter.

I believe the team could use some improvements before it goes off to showcase.

The Team

Hel (Sableye-Mega) (F) @ Terrain Extender
Ability: Electric Surge
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Stealth Rock
- U-turn
- Roost
- Spectral Thief

Set Details:

- This Pokemon is among the most important in this team. It is able to set Stealth Rock, remove the need of Safety Goggles, break sweeps, and shut down Shedinja with Stealth Rocks. Stealth Rock is used to break Focus Sash, Sturdy and allow Zekrom to pick off Pokemon far easier.
- Zero investment with Relaxed (+Def, -Spe) allows this Pokemon's pivot to be as slow as possible. This ensures that Zekrom can safely get in while losing minimal health. The +Def nature also allows it to live physically offensive moves while losing less health.
- Roost ensures Sableye's longevity. This allows it to also open more opportunities for Zekrom to sweep, however this has to be used with prediction as Sableye underspeeds everything but Ferrothorn.
- Spectral Thief breaks sweeping leads apart and deal damage to passive Pokemon.

Justification for using this Pokemon:
- Good bulk, slow pivot and cannot be trapped.
- Decent defensive typing (only one weakness) along with being among the best Pokemon to set up Terrain or Weather.
- Sableye is immune to Shedinja's Endeavor, assuming that Shedinja does not have Scrappy or any -ate ability.

Thor (Zekrom) (M) @ Choice Band
Ability: Surge Surfer
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Hammer
- Bolt Strike
- Sacred Fire
- Sunsteel Strike

Set Details:

- Choice Band and Adamant nature give it maximum power. Choice Scarf is not needed due to Electric Surge boosting Zekrom's speed to be even higher than Modest Mega Gengar. (558 > 539) Dragon Hammer and Bolt Strike are Zekrom's main moves, covering almost the entire tier for at least neutral damage.
- Sacred Fire is coverage for bulkier targets like Registeel, Aegislash and almost every other viable Steel-type in the tier.
- Sunsteel Strike deals with Mega Diancie, Shedinja (If Stealth Rocks cannot be set up due to Magic Bounce or Taunt), The Kyurem Duo (Black and White), and Mega Aerodactyl (If I cannot afford to miss).

Justification for choosing Zekrom:
- Zekrom has the highest Attack stat out of any Electric-Type Pokemon. This is important, as it allows it to technically stack 2 abilities (Adaptability and Surge Surfer). It also allows the highest sweeping potential. It can also blend in during the Team Preview, appearing as a Galvanize set (when it truly is not).
- Surge Surfer allows Zekrom to outspeed everything that isn't scarfed under Electric Terrain. Bolt Strike deals heavy damage to everything that is not Ground-Type.
- It is the best Electric-type in the tier to go for the role of sweeping entire teams; due to its high attack, dual STAB and reasonable bulk for the role of a sweeper.

Brokkr (Ferrothorn) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Anchor Shot
- Roost
- Core Enforcer
- Leech Seed
Set Details:
- Ferrothorn can be used to weaken specific targets or disable Poison Heal. It is also there to stop the Imposter Chansey from tearing the team apart (takes around 30%) while also still filling a certain role on the team which is specified above. Leech seed aids in regenerating lost health from Zekrom's carnage, Roost is important to keep Ferrothorn healthy throughout the match, and Core Enforcer is meant to stop Poison Heal.
- Anchor Shot aids in removing Mega Diancie (which normally does not have coverage against it) from the field, allowing Zekrom to remove Pokemon easier. Rocky Helmet helps chip damage into the Imposter. It is also useful for removing Imposter on its own, allowing Zekrom to sweep easier.
Justification for choosing Ferrothorn:
- Ferrothorn has high Defense, and resistance to Electric. It is also very bulky, taking around a 3HKO from the Imposter's Bolt Strike. Since Ferrothorn is 4x weak to fire, most will use Sacred Fire, allowing it a free turn to trap and stall the Imposter.
- It is able to remove certain -ate users (Kyurem-Black, Mega Diancie) from the field. Furthermore, It can remove Chansey, and help heal Zekrom (Leech Seed).

Tyr (Giratina) @ Safety Goggles
Ability: Prankster
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Haze
- Roost
- Destiny Bond
- Core Enforcer
Set Details:
- Giratina is there to counteract sweeps that Chansey or Sableye cannot deal with. Haze removes stats from all Pokemon, Roost ensures longevity.
- Destiny Bond and Core Enforcer can remove Mega Rayquaza, take down an imposter if Ferrothorn cannot switch in for whatever reason, or remove dangerous sweepers such as Mewtwo (X/Y forme), Mega Gengar, Groudon (Primal), Regigigas, Slaking and many other Pokemon that Chansey cannot deal with (Mega Gengar, Soundproof Arceus, certain Dazzling sets).
Justification for Giratina:
- Giratina has a favorable typing for a Prankster Pokemon (Ghost), since it cannot be trapped. It is also easier for it to remove Mega Gengar due to Ghost weakness instead of neutrality (Registeel) by Destiny Bonding on it. It also receives STAB from Core Enforcer, adding to the benefit of removing Mega Rayquaza from the field.
- It can safely swap in on Regigigas/Slaking, along with being able to defeat almost every Poison Heal user.

Loki (Chansey) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Imposter
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Bold Nature
- Roost
- Metal Burst
- Volt Switch
- Trick

Set Details:
- Chansey has a place on this team for being able to revenge kill many Dazzling users, certain Contrary users and Gengar sets without Judgment. Choice Scarf is used to gurantee that Chansey will outspeed.
- The moveset chosen is meant to provide support for the team. It can disable Mega Gengar (excluding Adaptability lure sets), many defensive Pokemon and Unburden sets (removes Sitrus Berry).
- Metal Burst can remove strong special attackers from the field, although this comes at a cost.

Justification for Chansey:
- Imposter can be a sucker punch for unprepared teams, and Choice Scarf adds to this by adding an assumption of a win of a speed tie. Normally, Chansey runs Eviolite, but Choice Scarf is normally not used, allowing a sucker punch on unprepared teams.
- By removing a Pokemon, Chansey aids Zekrom in removing the remaining Pokemon faster. Chansey can act as a sweeper late game as well, when Zekrom is down or cannot switch in.
- Chansey can technically also act as a pivot, if there is already an another Imposter on the field.

Steel Jotunn (Registeel) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Topsy-Turvy
- U-turn
- Roost
- Defog
Set Details:
- Registeel has a specific place on this team as a way to relieve Giratina of stress. Topsy-Turvy reverses stats, effectively forcing a switch on Contrary users. Flash Fire also allows a free turn to stop Contrary. Minimal speed is also used to maximize the chance.
- U-Turn allows a slow pivot into other Pokemon, minimizing damage done. Roost ensures longevity throughout the match, and Defog ensures health of Pokemon by removing entry hazards.
- Roost allows longevity throughout the match, postponing it's death. Rocky Helmet, due to Electric Surge being up most of the time prevents sleep, negating the need of Safety Goggles.
Justification for Registeel:
- Registeel is incredibly bulky, along with having a great defensive typing. This makes it optimal for using Defog, along with also causing trouble for certain sweepers.
- This Pokemon also has a disguise in Team Preview as a Prankster Pokemon, due to that being the most common ability for Registeel.
- Registeel has a slow pivot, which the team uses to negate damage to other Pokemon.
