[OVERVIEW]

Trevenant is a rather mediocre Pokemon in the UnderUsed tier. This is due to many reasons. Firstly, its average bulk is very underwhelming, especially considering its main role as a wall. Trevenant also faces a lot of competition, especially from the likes of Tangrowth, Chesnaught, and Gourgeist-XL. All three of these Pokemon possess a reliable recovery move and superior physical bulk, something Trevenant could only dream of having. Trevenant also has an average defensive typing, which leaves it weak to common attacking types such as Fire, Flying, and Dark; however, it also gives it resistances and immunities to common attacking types such as Water and Fighting. Despite having decent Attack, Trevenant isn't too good offensively due to its aforementioned bad bulk and low Speed. Trevenant sets itself apart from other walls, however, with access to Harvest, a good ability that allows Trevenant to make potentially infinite use of Berries.

Moves
========

Substitute prevents Trevenant from being inflicted with status ailments by moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp. Leech Seed allows Trevenant to wear foes down while having a form of passive recovery. Will-O-Wisp cripples most physical attackers while also providing residual damage. Phantom Force allows Trevenant to stall for residual damage and to regain the Sitrus Berry should you have bad luck with Harvest. Horn Leech, on the other hand, allows Trevenant to recover health while doing damage. Shadow Claw is an option for a Ghost-type attack that inflicts immediate damage.

Set Details
========

The given EVs and nature maximize Trevenant's special bulk. Sitrus Berry allows Trevenant to recover 25% of its health when weakened, while Harvest is used to ensure Trevenant has an endless supply of Sitrus Berries.

Usage Tips
========

Trevenant should be sent in against Pokemon it walls, such as Roserade, and proceed to wear down the opposing Pokemon with either Will-O-Wisp or Leech Seed. Be sure to switch out against common Knock Off users, such as Machamp and Heracross, as getting hit by a Knock Off will permanently remove Trevenant's Sitrus Berry. Trevenant should always use Substitute against walls it outspeeds, as they usually attempt to cripple Trevenant by using a status-inducing move.

Team Options
========

Pokemon that have access to clerical moves, such as Florges and Blissey, make for good partners, as they can remove status conditions that cripple Trevenant. Trevenant is weak to Dark-, Fire-, Flying-, Ghost-, and Ice-type moves, making Pokemon that can hit most of these types for super effective damage, such as Tyrantrum and Krookodile, good partners. Physical walls, such as Suicune and Mega Aggron, also make for good teammates, as they deal with physical attackers that give Trevenant issues. Trevenant forces a good amount of switches, making entry hazard setters, such as Forretress and Nidoqueen, good partners.

name: DON'T USE TREVENANT (Rest)

move 2: Will-O-Wisp

Moves
========

Rest not only heals Trevenant to full health but also removes any status conditions Trevenant might have. Will-O-Wisp cripples most physical attackers by halving their Attack. Leech Seed allows Trevenant to passively damage opposing Pokemon while recovering health. The last moveslot is a toss-up between Horn Leech and Shadow Claw. The former allows Trevenant to recover health while dealing damage and hit Water-types, among others, for super effective damage, while the latter hits Psychic- and Ghost-types for super effective damage.

Set Details
========

A Careful nature is used in tandem with maximum HP and Special Defense EVs to augment Trevenant's special bulk. Lum Berry grants Trevenant an immunity to status and wakes it up immediately after using Rest. Harvest ensures Trevenant can restore its Lum Berry after it's used up.

Usage Tips
========

Use Trevenant to absorb status from moves such as Scald and Toxic for the team and then Rest it off. Avoid Pokemon that commonly use Knock Off, as Trevenant's Lum Berry is crucial to its effectiveness. Should Harvest not activate and Trevenant uses Rest, be sure to keep in mind Trevenant only sleeps for two consecutive turns and the sleep turns do not reset after switching out. Try to avoid using Rest if Trevenant's Lum Berry has been removed, as Trevenant then becomes setup fodder for dangerous setup sweepers, such as Swords Dance Lucario and Dragon Dance Salamence.

Team Options
========

Walls that are crippled by status, such as Alomomola and Slowking, make for good partners, as they appreciate Trevenant's ability to function as a status absorber. Physically defensive walls, such as Granbull and Salamence, also make for good teammates, as they wall the physically offensive Pokemon Trevenant struggles with. Trevenant tends to force many switches due to its typing and ability to spread status, making entry hazard setters, such as Dragalge and Swampert, good partners.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
===========

Curse is an option on sets with Sitrus Berry to cripple most walls, but it takes up a valuable moveslot. A Choice Band set with Earthquake and Horn Leech can be used, but Trevenant's offensive capabilities are limited due to its mediocre bulk and Speed. Protect can be used to stall for passive damage and Harvest, but it takes up a valuable moveslot. An offensive Trick Room set can be used on dedicated Trick Room teams, but Trevenant tends to be outclassed in that regard by other Trick Room setters. Lastly, Trevenant can use Toxic to cripple opposing walls, but Will-O-Wisp is generally the better option due to its ability to cripple physical attackers.

Checks and Counters
============

**Knock Off**: Knock Off removes Trevenant's Berry, crippling it for the rest of the match. Users of Knock Off, such as Mienshao and Krookodile, can also, respectively, 2HKO and OHKO Trevenant with the move itself.

**Attackers with Super Effective STAB Moves**: Pokemon that hit Trevenant for super effective damage with their STAB moves, such as Entei and Hydreigon, can easily beat Trevenant, OHKOing and 2HKOing, respectively, while not taking too much damage in return.

**Walls**: Walls, such as Blissey and Umbreon, aren't threatened by any of Trevenant's moves and can either stall it out or cripple it with a status condition.

**Infiltrator Users**: Infiltrator users, namely Crobat, Noivern, and Chandelure, can force out Trevenant regardless of whether it is behind a Substitute, although none of them appreciate getting worn down by Leech Seed.

**Taunt Users**: Taunt users, such as Mandibuzz and Jellicent, can easily shut Trevenant down with the move, as Trevenant relies on its support moves to be utilized effectively.

**Substitute Users**: Pokemon that commonly use Substitute, such as Cobalion, can easily use Trevenant as setup bait, as Trevenant cannot break Substitute with its STAB attacks.

**Guts Users**: Pokemon that have access to Guts, such as Heracross and Machamp, can easily beat Trevenant, as they take advantage of Trevenant's Will-O-Wisp to become fearsome wallbreakers.

IronBullet93 and Bouffalant I've basically re-written this whole thing to cater to my writing style and added a few things, such as Taunt users to C&C. Be sure to tell me if anything's wrong, and if not I'll move this to Copyediting.

Substitute prevents Trevenant from being inflicted with status ailments, such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp. (Toxic and Will-O-Wisp aren't status ailments though (poison and burn are) so this needs some rephrasing... you could change Toxic/WOW to poison/burn or maybe say "inflicted with status ailments by moves such as Toxic and Will-O-Wisp"?) Leech Seed allows Trevenant to wear opponents (teams or foes) down while having a form of passive recovery. Will-O-Wisp cripples most physical attackers while also providing residual damage.
