[OVERVIEW]
Unfezant may seem good on paper, boasting a solid Attack stat, decent Speed, and Super Luck, but that's where the positives end. Unfezant's lack of a good movepool makes it outclassed terribly by Dodrio and even Toucannon, since they actually get access to strong Flying-type STAB moves whereas Unfezant is stuck with mediocre 60-Base Power moves like Pluck and Aerial Ace. Unfezant's Speed tier is good, but it is still outsped by common Choice Scarf users and offensive Pokemon such as Togedemaru and Lycanroc, which can easily dispose of it. Finally, Unfezant is often forced to run a support set that relies on the 60% Hypnosis due to its limited movepool. It's very unreliable in the metagame because of this and has reason to be used over good offensive Flying-types such as Dodrio and Oricorio-G that possess a better matchup against bulky Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon like Regirock and Aggron.
[SET]
name: Tailwind Support
move 1: Tailwind
move 2: Hypnosis
move 3: U-turn
move 4: Return
item: Scope Lens
ability: Super Luck
nature: Adamant
evs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
[SET COMMENTS]
This set attempts to use Tailwind to outspeed opposing Pokemon and remove them from the battle, using Unfezant's niche of getting critical hits with Super Luck. Using Hypnosis and Tailwind allows Unfezant's teammates to get in safely and proceed to sweep. However, there isn't much going for this set because it relies too much on being able to land Hypnosis and gives setup opportunities to the plethora of good sweepers in the tier, like Lycanroc. As a support Pokemon, there is no reason to use Unfezant over Alolan Persian, which has access to Parting Shot, has a greater Speed tier, and gives a lot of defensive utility. Having a Stealth Rock weakness also hinders Unfezant's role as a support Pokemon, so without entry hazard removal, Unfezant has a very hard time pivoting with U-turn and setting up Tailwind multiple times over the game. This Pokemon takes up a teamslot that could be used by Dodrio, which is faster and has access to Swords Dance to break past its checks.
