SS: Aliss vs. mncmt - two friends fighting is never a good thing >:( but as much as I expect a furious PM from alice about this I think mence is just a better player, at least in current gen tiers. depending on the absurd crack carson loads alice up with though this could go either way, and mence doesn't have the support of his trusty kilometre, so who knows really

SS: TJ vs. pdt - The Strap Junior is good at clicking buttons and will easily put up a fight against most of this pool but pdt is a tough draw off the rip considering he's been doing pretty well in SCL and knows his way around this meta pretty well, especially because he's teaming up with his IPartner in crime again. one of the better matchups this week for sure though, should be a fun watch

SS: EviGaro vs. Luirromen - I am luis ramen defender #1 without a doubt, he is one of the nicest people on this site and is also a really solid player in his own right. Evi went farrrr FARRRR too late, I get that she's not playing in her home tier and all but like cmon. This game will be close, no doubt in my mind that it's the closest in this series. Evi has much more playing exp so I give her the edge but I THINK Luirromen has more experience with the current meta.

SM: Xiri vs. odr - this is such a cool game man. odr is really good at clicking random buttons in random tiers and always finding a way to win while doing it, Xiri of course has the history as a really solid SM UU player that always goes around even at the very least so he's a safe pickup. I want to say odr will pull up with something really funky and edge this one out though, gut feeling

ORAS: Pak vs. Chaitanya - From what I remember Chait was pretty impressive last UUPL after a tough start (?) but I'm not fact checking that so if I'm wrong gg. He's generally always good at ORAS tiers so like he should do well. With that said Pak has likely written 5 dissertations on this tier in his team chat already, somehow has Pearl working alongside him and is Pak so if he doesn't go 7-0 I will be shocked

BW: Raichy vs. Amukamara - of all the tiers I expected Raichy to play BW was not one of them. I have no doubt he's competent in it, but liam is a lot more proven in this tier than Raichy is, at the very least recently.

DPP: watashi vs. Accel - watashi went like 50-0 in DPPPL on my team and therefore he will repeat this performance here. Accel in DPP is unexpected but really cool regardless

ADV: eden vs. RampageWebber - tossup honestly

RBY: Amaranth vs. Torchic - I've heard Torchic is some underground RBY UU goat, and they have Skitty as their profile picture which I am a huge fan of. Amaranth is obviously extremely competent at RBY OU but I'm not sure how much he likes RBY UU, I'd assume there are a lot of transferrable skills though. So I'm gunning on what's probably an upset?

SS: hs vs. KSt3ve - hs has somehow become a viable player in 2021 and that is bizarre to me but here we are. KSt3ve is not bad in his own right but it's gonna be really tough for him to compete with hs (4-0 en scl) and I swear to god if I see one fucking sub id kommo in this series

SS: KM vs. Feliburn - KM is gonna need a little time to find his footing I think because like, asking him to not bring heat is like asking a baby not to cry, it's not gonna go well and he won't perform as well without his absurdity factor, but there's a certain point where you're bringing Defense Curl Wailord and Psychic Seed Registeel to serious tournament games on the same team where you have to kinda go "okay, maybe I should reel it in". As such I think Feli will take this one pretty handily and KM will need a couple weeks to get into his groove but maybe I'll be wrong here

SS: Raptor vs. beatiful - I still feel really bad for stealing Sagiri from Raptor in SCL. Raptor if you're reading this I'm sorry I promise. I will bold you forever as my apologies (unless you lose a lot) (please don't)

SM: pokemonisfun vs. Ark - pif will innovate Dustox stall or some shit without any Unaware users or a Blissey and it will somehow win

ORAS: xujing691691 vs. Scalescale - holy shit I have no words for this matchup

BW: Sabella vs. ninjadog - Cool matchup between two players who I assume aren't very familiar with BW UU at all. I know booty is good at BW Monotype so I can at least rely on him knowing his BW mechs pretty well. Ninjadog is one of the coolest users on this site however so I hope he does well too

DPP: Shiba vs. Eo Ut Mortus - LAPRAS has thrown by not putting Shiba in his home tier (RBY UU) and now he's gotta deal with fighting Eo which is a really tough draw to pull week 1. I also wanted to draft Eo so this is a salt bold.

ADV: Cam vs. Roseybear - I'm not sure how familiar Roseybear is with ADV UU but I do know Cam is pretty good at this tier so I'm bolding based on experience alone pmuch

GSC: LpZ vs. HSA - LpZ is really good, I wanted him for my own team's GSC slot, but HSA does not lose in this tier

RBY: Drogba In Shenhua vs. pac - Drogba In Shenhua is p good at Pokemon in general but pac has RBY mainer status and considering I only vaguely know RBY UU I'm gonna just say that that wins out for me

SS: Bushtush vs. Luthier - The first SCL starter showdown! I think Bush performed a bit better in this tier than Luthier did so I'll bold based on that but both are obviously competent. Looking forward to watching for sure.

SS: Meru vs. mushamu - Meru has been really active in UU lately and wins a lot but mushamu always beats me in random ass tours whenever we play which seems to be a lot, so I will bold them based on that

SS: ez vs. Lyss - Lyss waited until the exact moment it turned midnight for me to wish me a happy birthday, which I thought was super cute. She also agrees with like all my meta takes. ez owned for me in SCL and was funny as fuck despite jumpscaring me once which I haven't forgiven him for. Defubuteky a game to watch

SM: Adaam vs. robjr - The second SCL matchup but in the wrong tier this time. Two of the strongest SM UU players of all time going at it, this will absolutely be the highlight game of the week for anyone who wants to watch. I rate both fairly similarly in this tier so I'm just trusting my gut here.

ORAS: Cynde vs. Bouff - I'm not sure how familiar either of these players are with modern ORAS but Cynde has not played in a while whereas Bouff has so I will give this to him

BW: Finchinator vs. Nalorium - Finch is big danger in BW UU and smashed me twice in BWPL whereas Nalo, my manager, loaded me up with a team that was apparently from 2012

DPP: fatty vs. Thiago Nunes - The nunes becoming a whole ass DPP starter with such ease has been a really cool development and I'm happy for him. fatty has historically been really good at this tier though and I don't think he'll lose this one

ADV: r0ady vs. Jisoo - I've never seen either player play this tier but I do know that Jisoo likes ADV NU a lot so I guess he gets the edge

GSC: Leru vs. vani - Leru pings me every single time a UU tour starts and asks me to put GSC in it so he better go 6-1 (losing to Holly obviously)

RBY: Diophantine vs. phoopes - this is the last tier I thought Diophantine would play and phoopes is a mainer so gg

GSC: LpZ vs. HSA - One of the highlight matches of this week for me, LpZ is goated and i'm hyped to see him playing GSC in this tour, but HSA simply doesn't lose and is definitely the comfortable #1 in the pool.

GSC: Leru vs Vani - For sure an upset prediction wise, Leru had a solid performance in UUPL, but I need to predict for my GSC UU player from UUFPL! If vani puts in the effort for his debut in GSC UU outside UUFPL i could definitely see him upsetting this as he's a solid GSC player in general, even though Leru absolutely would be favoured.

GSC: Trevelion vs Holly - The CEO OF GSC NU doesn't lose. Have high hopes for Holly in this tour and I know she's coming into this super motivated on top of being one of the biggest simps of this tier ever alongside myself. Trevelion has a lot less experience in GSC UU than Holly but with Mr.378 support this could definitely be a close match.

Looking forward to all the GSC games this season, was a few surprises on the Pools but looks set to be well worth watching.

This SM pool is really deep and I'm looking forward to a lot of these games this season

SM: pokemonisfun vs. Ark - Building and prepping in this tier is super ass, and doing so for pif specifically is one of the biggest headaches possible. pif has had a lot of success in tours the last couple years and this is perhaps his strongest gen of them all. What really distinguishes him here is that he's capable of using essentially any style, whether it's HO, stall, or anything in between. I think highly of Ark and he does have a unique perspective on the game, having a bunch of cool ideas in whatever metagame, no matter how unfamiliar he seemingly is there. He does not have much direct experience in SM UU specifically to my knowledge, and that disparity is pretty huge considering pif may have very well played more SM than anyone else on this website. I'm not going to count out ark because if there is anyone that can come up with a fresh take that strays away from established norms enough to throw pif off, it's probably him. Still, he seemingly doesn't have a lot of in-team support in the tier either, so it's hard not to default to pif here.

SM: Adaam vs. robjr - On paper, this is probably the highlight match for this tier for the entire tour aside from maybe either of these two playing pif, so it should be a great one for the spectators. I'd say the chances are low there's much cheddar going on here, so that should help out in that regard too. Rob is kind of notorious for picking from his same 10-12 teams or so for any of these tours in SM, which in his defense has been a formula for success, but Adaam is obviously a step above from much of the other competition in this setting, at least historically speaking. I'm not entirely sure how hard Adaam is going to try this tour after the slog that the SCL season probably felt like for his team, but I would imagine he'd definitely get up for this game specifically. He's always had his super unique offensively-based approaches in this tier, which is why he's always been one of my favorites to watch in this tier alongside his usually very strong game play. Again, rob himself is very good and has crushed the last couple UUPLs, but if there's anyone that can capitalize on his usual team recycling and sticking to the standard team structures, it's probably the person who's made his name off of straying from the usual standards to abuse them since even like the middle of ORAS.

SM: Gondra vs. Santu - Interesting game for sure. Both are known for their good results in the tier historically despite probably never opening the [Gen 7] UU teambuilder a single time themselves except to import a team. For that reason, it's kind of hard to feel strongly one way or the other. Gondra's motivation is probably pretty low given the recent span of events, and especially because he signed up to bench this tour. Idk if something changed with that, but that's all I have to go off of. Santu has been in a bit of a rut himself this year, but has still managed to hold his own at worst in whatever UU team tour in the past. He himself is lacking his usual CBU support in SM and seemingly all that much support within that team, so I'm not sure what to expect aside from some possible recycling of those past ones he's presumably grown to trust. The Gondra Avarice pairing didn't work out that well in UUPL, but I think they'll have a bit of an edge since it'll probably be something new at least.

These are just some quick mindless rankings I did for each tier based on who is playing this week. All of the Dragonairs are obviously #1 in their respective tiers so I won't be ranking them here since it would be unfair to everyone else.

Since this is Week 1 the rankings are mostly based on a combination of track record + potential for explosion and/or implosion.
