Project Pokemon Matchmaking v2 [Closed]

Venusaur @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power Fire
- Synthesis

Venusaur makes a great partner for SD Diggersby, resisting Mach punch and Aqua jet and not taking much from ice shard thanks to thick fat, which would all otherwise out-prioritise Diggersby. Sludge bomb beats Clefable and Altaria and grass types such as Breloom and Azumarill, HP fire beats Scizor, ferrothorn and skarmory, giga drain beats waters such as Azumarill and Keldeo, all Pokemon which Diggersby struggles with. In return, Diggersby handles VoltTurn, fire types such as Heatran, special walls such as Chansey, which Venusaur struggles with.

Activity has been down the past 2 weeks. Hopefully we can get more this week :]

Also, I re-worked the Hall of Fame. The baseline is now 5 archived entries. With that in mind, congratulations fleggumfl for providing your 5th archive-worthy entry, and making it into the HoF :]

The Winners:

fleggumfl's Magneton

Random Passerby's Azumarill

Bendiving's Mega-Venusaur

Week 24 - Wallbreaker Mega-Charizard-Y

Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Fire Blast
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
- Roost

Bisharp @ BlackGlasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 52 SpD / 204 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Knock Off
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Pursuit

Bisharp is a fantastic partner to Charizard Y. It Pursuit-traps (it can also Sucker Punch them for an easy KO) Latios and Latias, which are the best offensive checks to it and can switch on on Charizard multiple times. It also resists both of their dual STAB attacks. Adding onto that, Bisharp can also Knock Off Chansey's Eviolite or do heavy damage to it with Iron Head, which is a massive pain for Charizard to overcome.

252 Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Pursuit vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Latios: 368-434 (123 - 145.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252 Atk Black Glasses Bisharp Pursuit vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Latias: 336-396 (105.3 - 124.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Banned deucer.

Tyranitar @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Stone Edge
- Superpower

TTar is probably the best Zard Y teammate for a bunch of reasons. It resets the weather, preventing Zard Y from coming in when Sun is still up then it dies out next turn, meaning that when it comes it after TTar, it will always have 5 turns of Sun unless opposing Rain / Sand teams. It also Pursuit traps Latis which are both super annoying for Zard because they both wall the living hell out of it.

Reserving Keldeo

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind / Hidden Power Flying

Keldeo is a good partner for Charizard Y, and for a bunch of reason. To begin with, they have good typing synergy. Charizard-Y eats Grass-type for breakfast, and Keldeo kills Tyranitar and others Pokemon that could have Stone Edge (ex: Hippowdon). Secondly, they share same checks : Dragon-types like the Lati twins, Dragonite or the rare Dragalge can take a hit and answer with a Draco Meteor. Keldeo can damage them with Icy Wind. But HP Flying is an option to hit offensive Venusaur-Mega that could be troublesome for Zard Y teams because if SR are up, our mega can't beat it (252+ SpA Mega Venusaur Sludge Bomb vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Mega Charizard Y: 138-163 (46.4 - 54.8%) -- 63.7% chance to 2HKO). Finally, Keldeo can beat others weather inducers. Politoed gets 2HKO'ed by Secret Sword, sand inducers loses to Water-Stab, and the rare Ninetales too.

omfg did I actually win something?! :O

Scizor @ Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 12 Atk / 248 SpD
Careful Nature
- Defog
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- U-turn

This may not be the greatest Scizor set, it's kinda gimmicky but it accomplishes a very specific goal making it an ideal partner for Charizard-Y. CharY requires 3 things to function well - hazard removal, a pursuit trapper for the Latis, and a slow pivot to bring it in safely. This Scizor set provides all of the above, freeing up teamslots for other partners, and Charizard also handily covers Scizor's only weakness in fire. 12 attack EVs guarantee a 2HKO on 72hp latias with pursuit (80bp) and the SpD EVs ensure that a life orb Latios will never KO with HP fire from full.

252 SpA Life Orb Latios Hidden Power Fire vs. 248 HP / 248+ SpD Scizor: 286-338 (83.3 - 98.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

12 Atk Scizor Pursuit vs. 72 HP / 0 Def Latias: 160-190 (50.1 - 59.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

If you don't like the lack of recovery you can swap Bullet punch out for roost instead, sacrificing priority for longevity.

Hello.

I agree with Pursuit being almost mandatory.
At first I wanted to nominate Weavile but I got another idea...

Doublade (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: No Guard
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Atk / 104 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Pursuit
- Shadow Sneak
- Gyro Ball
- Toxic

Let me explain why Doublade is a fantastic pick. Not only you can Pursuit Latios and Latias, but unlike Weavile, you can actually switch into their moves.
Doublade's last niche is that it is able to totally wall Chansey which is great because the blob is another counter to Charizard-Y.
I admit this is rather anti-metagame, but on paper, it has a lot of interesting traits.

Good luck everybody.

Tbh every decent Zard-Y team only needs a T-tar/Sharp with something like Specs Keldeo to punch through shit that Zard-Y can't really touch, and of course something to remove rocks, so there's honestly not much else I can think to pair with Zard-Y that hasn't been said already maybe other than Weavile (not being able to switch into Latis sucks for it tho). Obviously Lati or Starmie would make a good partner for it because they remove hazards so I don't really feel like posting the obvious. Here's something I do enjoy pairing with Zard-Y tho that is often overlooked for T-tar and Sharp:

Metagross @ Assault Vest
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Meteor Mash
- Pursuit
- Earthquake
- Bullet Punch

AV Metagross is anti meta as fuck and can switch into the Latis more reliably than pretty much every relevant Pursuit trapper out there. Lati switches into Zard Y and is forced to Roost, giving you a free switch into Meta to Pursuit trap to your hearts content. It's also a pretty outstanding check to some of the Pokemon that often give Zard-Y trouble, such as Mega Alt, Diancie, and KyuB. It's pretty self explanatory because it literally just traps the Latis + bops a couple Zard-Y checks/switch-ins, but I find it to be a neat partner to Zard-Y that is often overlooked for Scarf Tar or Sharp for obvious reasons.

Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash
- Superpower / Knock Off

Charizard-Y is a nice partner for Mamoswine because it is able to easily defeat Rotom-W, Skarmory, Mega Scizor and Slowbro while also weakening Water-type attacks which it is weak to. In return, Mamoswine checks Dragon-types and Tyranitar which loves switching in against Charizard-Y. Superpower is a nice option to hit Chansey for 70% + , which is a KO after Fire Blast and Rocks. An Adamant Nature can be used to guarantee the OHKO on Chansey after Rocks.

Azumarill @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP/ 252 Atk/ 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
-Waterfall
-Aqua Jet
-Play Rough
-Superpower

Banded Azumarill is a good parter with Zard-Y as they both are excellent at punching holes in the opponent's team. Azu takes care of fat walls such as Chansey and is a more reliable answer to Heatran. It somewhat checks the Latis (they're hesitant to switch into play rough obviously) and can pressure Scarf Lando-T with Banded Aqua Jet. In return, Zard-Y beats Ferrothorn, Mega Venasaur, and Rotom-W.

Week 25 - Life Orb Gengar

Gengar @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Sludge Wave
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
- Taunt / Icy Wind

One of my top 3 favourite Pokemon of all time. I'd been waiting for DarkNostalgia to nominte this for the longest time, but they never did, so ima do it now :]

Klefki @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Impish Nature
- Spikes
- Thunder Wave
- Foul Play
- Play Rough

Klefki makes an excellent supportive partner for Gengar. First of all, Gengar's speed is good but not great - Klefki provides speed control in the form of prankster T-wave, allowing Gengar to basically outspeed the entire metagame bar fast electrics such as M-Mane and scarfed grounds such as Lando-T. Gengar also really appreciates the spikes support that Klefki provides, helping to break down bulkier cores for Gengar to clean up more easily and also due to the large number of switches Gar forces racking up plenty of hazard damage in the process. Defensively, Gengar is immune to ground type attacks aimed at Klefki and in return Klefki resists the dark and psychic attacks that could ruin Gengar's day, as well as taking pretty much nothing from all forms of priority which Gengar struggles with. As Gengar is immune to ground, magnet rise is not really needed on the Klefki set, making room for foul play and play rough, a type combination which is resisted only by Mawile and opposing Klefki, and allows Klefki to beat dark-type pursuit trappers such as Weavile and Bisharp.

Reserving Clefable. Will be done in 3 or 4 hours :)

Death Incarnate (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 232 Def / 24 SpD
Bold Nature
- Moonblast
- Thunder Wave
- Calm Mind
- Soft-Boiled

Physically defensive Clefable is a steller partner for gengar. Not only does she spread Paralysis to make gengers life easier. She tanks and deals with problematic mons such as lopunny, Scarfed Keldeo, Sableye, weavile, Non-SD talonflame and Azu whom can beat gengar. Clefable also absorbs dark attacks such as knock off for genger. In return gengar Breaks down and defeats the few pokemon clef cant set up apon such as banded victini, Jirachi, some opposing fairies and metagross whom fear gengars shadow ball.

The only pokemon Both fear togethor is Scizor whose bullet punch can shred both but otherwish the pair have a phenomonal synergy

Reserving Crawdaunt.

Crawdaunt @ Life Orb
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly / Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Crabhammer
- Knock Off
- Aqua Jet

SD Crawdaunt is quite possibly the best partner that Gengar can ever ask for. Since Gengar can use its speed and coverage to overwhelm Offensive teams, Crawdaunt can use its insane power to destroy more defensively oriented teams. The two have near perfect offensive synergy with each other, only missing out on Crawdaunt's Electric weakness. The two eliminate each others checks and counters quite perfectly. Crawdaunt can eliminate Heatran so Gengar doesn't have to rely on Focus Blast, and Pursuit trappers such as Bisharp, Weavile, and Tyranitar. In return, Gengar easily eliminates Fairies, Mega Venusaur, and bulky Water types such as Rotom-W and Keldeo.

Lopunny @ Lopunnite
Ability: Limber
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Return
- High Jump Kick
- Ice Punch / Baton Pass

Lopunny is a terror against offense, while Gengar preys on defensives cores, so naturally they're a pretty good fit. Gengar is able to put in huge amounts of damage against many of Lopunny's checks, allowing Lopunny to clean much more easily. Lopunny naturally does well against faster teams that would outpace Gengar, and can allow it opportunities to switch in via Baton Pass if you opt to run it.

Gyarados @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Crunch
- Waterfall
- Earthquake

Gengar and Mega Gyarados forms a nice Offensive core as they can defeat each other's checks. For example, Mega Gyarados is able to take on Gliscor, Bisharp and Heatran while also being able to lure Dragalge and Tentacruel with Earthquake, which also hits grounded Electric-types for decent damage. In return, Gengar easily defeats Chesnaught, Mega Altaria and Skarmory while also hitting Ferrothorn hard with Focus Blast.

Alakazam @ Alakazite
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Shadow Ball
- Encore

Alakazam forms a very potent offensive core alongside Gengar, with each breaking down each others checks so the other can sweep. It is important to pair this up with a resist to Dark and Ghost type pokemon, such as Tyranitar or Weavile. This duo works by having enough offensive presence that their checks cannot keep up. Encore from Mega Alakazam (or Taunt from Gengar) deters defensive checks from healing up, so you can break through them easily.

Bisharp @ Life Orb
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Sucker Punch
- Knock Off
- Iron Head

Bisharp is a phenomenal partner. If helps keep hazards on the field with the use of Defiant, also coinciding with Gengar's immunity to Rapid Spin. Gengar function as a Switch-In to Fighting and Ground moves aimed at Bisharp, while Bisharp itself is a Switch-In to Psychic, Ghost, and Dark moves aimed at Gengar.

Keldeo @ Choice Specs
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Scald
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump
- Icy Wind

Gengar on its own doesn't need a shit ton of support to be successful considering how difficult it is to switch into and how easy it can tear apart stall/balance, so I like to pair it with a wallbreaker such as Specs Keldeo to heavily pressure more offensive teams, as well as break fat shit down in order for Gengar to secure more OHKOs. SpD Gliscor is one of the best switch-ins to Gengar on balance because it can eat up a Shadow Ball and proceed to spam Knock Off the following turn. Keldeo just straight wrecks it, and Gliscor is practically a free switch into it. The same can be said for Mega Sableye, which absolutely hates being burned from Scald and is 2HKOed by Hydro. Keldeo punches holes into bulkier shit which Gengar struggles to OHKO, such as SpD Heatran, fat Hippo, and T-tar. Keldeo has really nice defensive synergy with Gengar as well, being able to switch into Knock Off as well as deal with nearly all the common Pursuit users such as Weavile, Bisharp, and T-tar. Keldeo also appreciates how Gengar can pressure a lot of its switch-ins, such as Mega Venu, Slowbro, Celebi, Amoonguss, Clef, Mega Gard, and Togekiss. Overall, Keldeo provides a lot of offensive and defensive synergy with Gengar which can really help it be more successful.

I'm back again, hopefully I'll do better this time around.

I have the perfect Gengar comrade for you:

Scizor (M) @ Scizorite
Ability: Light Metal
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 16 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- U-turn
- Roost

Why Scizor-Mega:

First, I was looking for a Pokemon able to check and take advantage of the most common pursuiters such as Tyranitar and Weavile. Scizor-Mega does that perfectly, and can always provide its trainer with opportunities to bring in safely the very powerful Gengar. This is a crucial aspect of Scizor-Mega, as Gengar is too frail to be mindlessly sent on the battlefield.
Finally, Scizor-Mega fares pretty well against a lot of fast Pokemon that usually check Gengar such as Alakazam, Aerodactyl, Metagross-Mega, Latios, Lopunny-Mega etc.
When you start your team with Gengar, you definitely need to build a solid core around it because it is a rather squishy member. I feel like Scizor-Mega brings to the table everything someone could need to create such a core, and has a nice synergy with Gengar to top it off.

Good luck everybody

WhiteQueen (Serperior) @ Life Orb

Charizard @ Charizardite X
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Flare Blitz
- Dragon Claw
- Roost / Earthquake

Charizard X hates the likes of Quagsire, Azumarill, Slowbro, which Serperior covers perfectly. Serperior is also capable of taking on threats such as Latis as it can OHKO them with a +2 Dragon Pulse. Serperior is stopped by the likes of Amoonguss and Mega Venusaur, which Charizard covers very well too, and can even run EQ to lure Heatrans as Serperior lacks HP Ground.

Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
IVs: 29 HP
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Earthquake
- Roost

Serperior with HP fire is completely walled by Heatran - EQ Latios lures and with a hasty nature, OHKOs non-air balloon Tran 100% of the time. Earthquake also helps vs the likes of Bisharp, Metagross etc. Latios also checks other important mons which Serp struggles with such as CharY, M-Mane, Chansey with psyshock, AV Raikou, AV Torn-T etc, as well as tanking the fire type attacks aimed at Serp.

In return, Serperior handles many of Latios' checks, including Ttar, Azu, Ferro, Skarm, Scizor, Hippo, etc.

Defensively the core has a few weaknesses in particular ice and bug, Heatran would patch most of these plus provide a Talonflame check.

Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP / 236 Def / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
- Calm Mind
- Scald
- Rest
- Roar

Suicune is able to switch into Pokemon which threaten Serperior such as Talonflame, Heatran, Weavile and Jirachi and then either fish for a burn or increase its stats with Calm Mind. Roar is a nice option over Sleep Talk to phaze out opposing stat-boosters (read: CM users, bulky Altaria, Tail Glow Manaphy) and ruin opponents who try to Whirlwind Suicune out. As a bonus, both Suicune and Serperior share checks such as Mega Venusaur, Mega Manectric, and Latias, whom Suicune can overwhelm if it manages to snag a boost before the threats come in. 20 Spe allows you to outpace unevolved Ampharos and Rotom-W, which is important as you can boost one more before taking a Super Effective STAB attack.

Note: You can also replace Taunt with Glare or Hidden Power Rock as Suicune increases the weakness to Mega Charizard-Y, Tornadus-T and Thundurus-I.
